Lucian Bernhard's lettering creation for American Type Founders is to this day a favorite among font connoisseurs worldwide. It has a unique personality. A number of styles and alternate characters have been added to the family such as heavy italics, extra heavy italics, and capital figures. The typeface Fry was developed in 2008 specially for the Sky-Fish company (fish and seafood dealer). Type is designed for small texts, it has friendly and fairytale historic flavor. Fry takes openness and dynamism of humanistic sans serif, simple and softness of lubok's letters (primitive style) and fluidity of shallow marine fry. Despite of funny style, Fry works well even in the 5 point size. In large sizes Fry demonstrates its originality, vivacity and softness, in the small characteristics become less visible, and Fry's readability becomes more important. The combination of lubok's aesthetics and funny dynamic forms make a nature of Fry. Fry was exhibited at the Svjato Kyrylyci (Kharkov, Ukraine) festival in 2008. Kade is a display/semi display sans family of fonts based on vernacular lettering photographed over the last ten years in and around the harbors of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Hence the name Kade that translates into English as ‘quay’, also the name of its designer. Kade grew slowly from many different ideas and elements. The letters reflects the industrial method in which they are cut for the side of ships from large steel plates. Frequently subtleties of curves are compromised due to the cutting tools and the fact engineers are in control. Kade’s italics have an experimental character and were produced in an unorthodox manner by rotating 8 degrees, rather than slanting the roman characters, a method sometimes employed in shipyards. Kade constructed character is ideal for contemporary editorial works, architecture magazines, museums communication and posters. I like to think that I have the same handwriting style as my father, but I had never seen him write with lowercase letters, only in all capitals, except when signing his name on something in cursive. I recently came across a letter my father had written long ago to a friend. It was returned to sender, yet he kept it intact. The letter primarily thanked his friend for his hospitality when my father unexpectedly dropped in for a visit while traveling. I was so taken by the handwriting, that I decided to make it into a font, not only to remember my father, but also to forever preserve his handwriting.
