The main inspiration is from Art Nouveau which flourished in Europe at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. This design included furniture (Majorelle, Lalique) and architecture (Victor Horta, Henry Van de Velde, Gaudi, Alfons Mucha). But Hector Guimard remains the favorite for all aspects of its art and, of course, its typefaces used on the Parisian Metropolitan posters. In particular, the various kerning of the various letters he used to make the poster a whole design from singular designs, leading to numerous variations. As a designer, I first worked with the individual glyphs Hector Guimard designed and I discovered that they vary constantly from a poster to another, depending on the overall result he was looking for. Another difficulty in transferring his design to printing is that there was no lower case. I was excited to create the whole font from the original designs of Hector Guimard, incorporating its variations and "crazy kerning". After several attempts, it appeared to be impossible to include all variations and I slightly moved to my own new design as a complete font, upper and lower case, with kerning. I voluntarily limited the ascenders and descenders to the usual typography so that it can be used from 10 / 12 points. This version can be used to edit letters and books in the context of Art, specially Art Nouveau and Art Deco of course, posters of any kind.

P22 Brass Script is a new font from an old source. This script font was discovered in a booklet from Dornemann & Co. of Magdeburg Germany, circa 1910. The book was titled Messingschriften fur Handvergoldung, which roughly translates to “Brass types for hand foil stamping.” The mini catalog called this type simply “Script.” It has not been previously digitized or seen in standard metal type form. The antique specimen book featured most of the characters needed for a full alphabet, but a number of letters were not shown. Since no other examples of this style could be found, P22 enlisted the assistance of master calligrapher Michael Clark to draw the missing characters in the same style as the original. The style is very loosely based on the secretarial hands and reminiscent of “French Hand” with a very early 20th century, pre-modern feel. It has an unusual flow that is neither too casual nor too formal. The font would be useful for wedding invitations or packaging and advertising. ABTS day of the dead is a highly detailed and meticulously designed symbol font. It’s design is inspired by the Day of the Dead celebration, honoring the deceased. I think The Day of the Dead is one of the greatest reasons anyone should celebrate life, so I decided to make a font honoring that tradition. I'm not even sure If I got all of it right, (traditional symbols and such) but it was a joy to create. There are 2 fonts. The first is the Skulls. This includes uppercase and lowercase A-Z, a-z. There you will find the decorated skulls, blank skulls, and negatives. The second font is the symbols. If you wish to design your own Day of the Dead skull, you should purchase the symbols, as they are designed specifically for adorning the blanks. Purchasing both fonts will give you a discount. Pegasus scrapes the DNA of a great twentieth century painter who scattered text across his work like no other… not any kind of facsimile, but tough, playful, adaptable display type forged from the bones of a unique writing hand. Three weights - Skinny, Domestic and Peso - each offer five alternates for each letter, three for each numeral and multiple versions of many punctuation and other symbols. Letters are uppercase only with the lowercase providing one of the alternate forms of each letter… with OpenType Contextual Alternates switched on, you get automatic variation between the two… and you can manually throw in wilder variations from the remaining alternates. Some repeated punctuation - periods, question marks, etc. - are automatically varied too. OpenType Stylistic Set 1 switches to a rowdier selection from the alternates… Set 2 flips all the E’s to distinctive ‘skeleton’ alternates… Set 3 introduces automatic variation into numerals. A personalized cursive written with the pointed brush The strange name of this font means nothing other than ”brush,“ but only the Dutch understand it. The typeface is spirited, amusing and flashy. I made the handwritten original of DeBorstel Brush quickly and without interruption with a pointed brush. In the capitals, DeBorstel Brush appears to be almost too balanced for handwriting. In contrast, the lower case letters are intentionally very individual and uneven. A bit more life is added to the typeface with ligatures activated which are constructed with alternative letter forms — and as a result, a number of problematic letter-combinations are improved. And if this typeface is still not lively enough for you, the additional alternative character forms a e g i j l n o s t u z are available with the Open Type-Function ”Discretional Ligatures“. DeBorstel Brush is suitable for all European languages. It includes ”Unicode Latin Extended-A,“ for Central and Eastern Europe incl. Turkish, and even Cyrillic and Greek, too.

A variation of ”Helvetica according to the blur principle.“ The underlying typeface is ”Helvetica“, the only true ”run-of-the-mill“ typeface of the twentieth century. The distortion principle used simulates the photographic effect of halation and/or overexposure. The light weight, »DeFonte Léger«, nearly breaks on the thin points, whereas on those points where the lines meet or cross, dark spots remain. The characters are ”nibbled at“ from the inner and outer brightness. On the normal and semibold typestyles, »DeFonte Normale« and »DeFonte Demi Gras«, the effect is limited almost exclusively to the end strokes and corners, which appears to be strongly rounded off. The bold version »DeFonte Gros« is especially attractive. As a result of ”overexposure“, counters (internal spaces) are closed in, while characters become blurred and turn into spots; new characteristic forms are created which are astoundingly legible. The fat version »DeFonte Gros« is particularly appealing. “Overexposure” leads to drifted counters, letters blur into spots; new characteristic forms emerge, which are surprisingly easy to read.

The early Twentieth Century was a golden age for cinema, and for the artists who lettered the iconic title sequences. Cinema Script is inspired by this lettering style, but has departed substantially from the source material in an effort to be less retro and more in tune with today’s designers' needs. The font will work admirably ‘out of the box’ but to really shine use the advanced OpenType features. Contextual alternates and ligatures should be on by default for the best results. Discretionary ligatures are a little more out there, so use them, ahem, at your discretion. Treatise was born in a notebook at the back of a boring lecture on immunology with the simple thought of “How can I make a serif more fun?” When writing a scientific treatise, there are not many options for making it enjoyable. However, some little quirks and fun features in the font can take the serious edge off the writing.... Treatise is a light and open serif with some design quirks, which give it a slightly calligraphic feel; a single -storey “a” and “g,” a visible stroke mark on the “o,” and a curved arm on the “k.” These features are subtle enough to fit into a paragraph of text but bold enough to give a title some character. The Treatise family includes a true italic and a heavy-struck style bold, and several OpenType features; standard and discretional ligatures, contextual alternatives, and different figure styles. After the success of our best-selling Mr Black, we decided to once more use my grandfather’s dry transfer lettering sheets. My grandfather was a Polish military cartographer and he left us some used-up sheets. The letters didn't transfer so well but we liked the way they were damaged. Mr Tiger has upper- and lowercase characters with up to four alternate glyphs. First three variations are only slightly damaged but the fourth one is usually more distorted. All of the glyphs have a very high resolution so they can be used in a large scale and they will still look great. One of the best things in Mr Tiger is the OpenType Contextual Alternates feature. It will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character. The script doesn’t throw random glyphs. For example in the word “HIPPOPOTAMUS” you will automatically get three different “P” glyphs and two “O” glyphs. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand.
