Stencil typefaces are popular because they are striking and decorative, and their associations - whether Utility, Travel, Vernacular, etc - are evocative. Anostencil is developed from, but not exactly like, our Ano typeface. Ano’s geometric skeleton, tweaked a bit, allows for a level of abstraction while retaining legibility. Some of Ano’s characters, such as the a, e, f and r, have been amended to make clearer, more graphic shapes when the stencil design has been applied. Different application of the stencil gaps in the letters make functional but decorative and expressive linear forms. This is particularly evident in Anostencil’s extended character set which features codified, semi abstract shapes. So the stencil design in Anostencil has been applied in not necessarily the most logical or immediate way, but in a way that makes each letter a striking and graphic shape.

Lunatica Display is a single weight, all capitals, slanted typeface ideal for titles and headlines due to its strong presence. It is constructed in a very modular fashion, stepping away from some typographic conventions, while keeping the form of its characters familiar and easily recognisable. This typeface is heavily inspired on the aesthetics of the space related sci-fi movie genre, specifically on the movie Moon (2009), directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell, from where it also picks up the inspiration for the name “Lunatica”. It was first designed as a branding exercise, thought to be the official typeface of Lunar Industries Ltd. — the company through wich the movie exists and unfolds. You can use Lunatica Display in more conventional contexts like branding but also in more experimental and futuristic-looking ways.

Modern typefaces refer to designs that bear similarities to Bodoni and other Didone faces, which were first created during the late 1700s. Ed Benguiat developed ITC Modern No. 216 in 1982 for the International Typeface Corporation (ITC). Showing a high degree of contrast between thick and thin strokes, as well as a large x-height, this revival is more suited to advertising display purposes than the setting of long running text, or books. Many traits in Benguiat's design are worth further notice. The thick stems of the roman weights have a very stately, solid presence. Their thin serifs have been finely grafted on, a masterful solution to the challenge of bracketing presented by Modernist designs. The italic weights have a very flowing, script-like feel to them, and the letters take the form of true italics, not obliques. Dwiggins Uncial is based on calligraphy by William Addison Dwiggins that he created for a self-penned short story, which appeared as an insert in the book-arts publication The Dolphin in 1935. This self-described “experimental uncial” lettering features rather unusual treatments of letterforms which combine manuscript calligraphy with modern idiosyncrasies.
