The Bitstream version of Melior, a twentieth century modern face commissioned by Stempel and designed by Hermann Zapf in 1952. It is based on Zapf’s thoughts about the squared-off circle known as a super-ellipse. The type was originally intended as a newspaper text face by Linotype. Hermann Zapf’s Melior exhibits a robust character through classic and objective forms. Versatile and extremely legible, it can be used for a variety of texts and point sizes. Cyrillic version was developed by Natalya Vasilyeva and licensed by ParaType in 2002.

Approach Mono is the fixed width version of Approach. A utilitarian low contrast font, a bit mechanical but plenty of character. This version shares its main features with the original one, but it has a more prominent and visible punctuation. The more obvious use of a mono would be in tables, programming code or “in progress texts”, but not just that. Approach Mono can be used in the modern communication, bringing an aseptic voice to brochures, advertising, identities and any other piece of communication. For more details see the PDF.

Interlude originated with some title lettering which we found in an Austrian theatre program from the early 1900s. With some more research we found a similar style called Tradition which was designed by Bernard Naudin and produced by a Parisian type house during the period before World War I. Using those two sources we ultimately produced two variant versions of the font, combining elements of the two sources. Interlude features characters with open areas in the heavier strokes, while Prelude is a solid, more script-like version of the style.

Radar is a revival of the sans serif typeface “Grotesca Radio”, from the Spanish foundry Richard Gans, which existed from 1888 to 1975. His authorship is attributed to the German type designer and master punchcutter Carl Winkow. Although the new version of this font has always tried to keep accurate similarities with the original typeface, Radar is not intended as a strict revival, but as a contemporary interpretation. In this new version the user can find some alternate characters that give the typeface a more art-déco or neutral flair.

When my Taiji teacher gave all of his students a handwritten card with their name on I noticed that he had an unusual and beautiful handwriting. I persuaded him to write out each of the standard glyphs for me in return for me doing some repairs to his trousers! Earth Encounters Family is the result. The regular font and the light version include OpenType coding to offer the option of different versions of the same letter in words, giving the effect of real handwriting. Earth Encounters also comes with a Shadow style.

Thima is a display font inspired by the liberty style revisited to the present day, hence it is free from the canonical compositional standards that make up the majority of fonts. Its elegant shapes are available in two versions: solid and outline. Thima’s unique features are enhanced by the perfect fusion between irregular and fluid shapes that coexist with right angles. Despite being a display font, the lowercase version is suitable for short and long paragraphs of text, while for large titles the uppercase shows off all its potential.

FREIBEUTER NR is a typical Western font but this is based on a FAMOUS Motorcycle Club from the television that everyone knows. The word FREIBEUTER is the German version of pirate. FREIBEUTER did in earlier times what pirates do, but they do it with the government togetherness. NR stands for NIEDERRHEIN, this is the area where I live and work. The PATCH Version is the best way to make fast a nice Banner or Patch with this font. You can use the WrapTEXT tool in Illustrator or Photoshop to wrap the banner in al forms!

VASARELY has famous roots, its name is related to optical arts own Victor Vasarely. Dropping the field of Op-Art, you already know where we have been aiming at. The REGULAR and LIGHT cuts of VASARELY are quite ordinary, rectangular, but legible typefaces, but with the BOLD and EXTRABOLD versions you will be able to build diverse illusive type illustrations and layouts. The Bitstream version of Monotype Rockwell, 1934. Twentieth-century design influence is revealed in strokes of more even weight than in the original nineteenth-century Egyptians or Slab Serifs. Rockwell is a prime example of this twentieth-century approach. It seems to be a simple Constructivist geometric sans with strong square slab serifs added to. Angular terminals make its sturdy design particular sparkling. It is a strong face for headlines and posters, and is legible in very short text blocks. Cyrillic version was developed at ParaType in 2000 by Isay Slutsker and Manvel Shmavonyan.

Initial Seals JNL was created by utilizing the typeface from Gummed Letters JNL and one of the decorative dingbats from Miscellany JNL. On the capital A-Z keys, the letters are black on a white on black seal design, while the lower case a-z keys have a seal version in solid black with white letters. Corresponding blank versions of the seals are on the left and right parenthesis keys, and the period key has a fill oval for overlaying background colors onto the black and white set.

What’s the good word? This elegant, stylish typeface, based on an early twentieth-century Barnhart Brothers & Spindler release, named simply "Engravers Upright Script". Giulia is a sweet type family consisting of 12 Fonts. It was created by Hannes von Döhren and published by HvD Fonts. Besides a fancy curly version there is a second version with a more straight architecture, still owning the same soft and friendly character. Informal and easy going at first sight and perfect for display settings, however the straight architecture of Giulia Plain also makes it nice for shorter to medium texts. This contemporary type family is ideal for use in retail, packaging, games, food, kids applications and advertising.

Twirrewyn is Frisian for ‘Whirlwind’. I have always liked the Frisian language; it’s like a crossover between English and Dutch. When I studied journalism in Zwolle (a city close to Fryslân) there were a lot of Frisian students and I did pick up a few words! Twirrewyn is a handmade font family: the fat version was made using a brush and ink; the light version was made using that same ink, but with a broken satay skewer instead of a brush. And yes, you have guessed right, we eat a lot of Satay! ;-)

The inspiration for AlbertBetenbuch came from a typeface drawn by Albert Dürer and an interpretation of that face in Arthur Baker’s Historic Calligraphic Alphabets (Dover, 1980). It is not a recreation of either. The characteristic common to AlbertBetenbuch and the faces inspiring it is the decorative zig-zag with the upper-case letters. In late 2018 the inside of the shadowed style was separated out. It looks very much like the plain face but its spacing matches the shadowed version. It can be layered with the shadowed version to easily create two-colored letters.

Not your average monospaced typeface, Base Mono flourishes with several handsome OT features mostly found exclusively in text fonts. Despite the geometric and techno feel of the initial roman version, the cursive version is heavily influenced by traditional Finnish weaving and folk art! The contradiction is taken further by inclusion of such classical features as small capitals and lower case figures, usually found in slightly more traditional fonts. Base Mono family suits many editorial, corporate identity and logotype tasks. It can even be used for setting text such as captions and headlines.

The long awaited full version of Poster, a recreation of Bodonian/Didot excess designed by Iñigo Jerez. The family has been finely improved with more styles. The family consists of: Poster and Poster Italic, a bolder version named Poster Monster and Poster Monster Italic– a virtuoso exercise in counter forms and contrast to be used with power unleashed, as the name suggests–; and finally Poster Display, Poster Display Italic, Poster Display Monster and Poster Display Monster Italic: four styles designed for even bigger sizes, with more contrast and splendor.

This family was inspired by an engraved plate from Diderot & Dalembert's Encyclopedia (publication beginning in 1751), illustrating the chapter devoted to letter engraving techniques. The plate bears two engravers names : "Aubin" (may be one of the four St Aubin brothers ?)and "Benard" ( which name is present below all plates of the Encyclopedia printed in Geneva ). It seems to be a transitional type, but different from Fournier or Grandjean. Small caps are included in fonts for TTF and OTF version, separate files are included in the family sets of the Mac TT version.

Laca Text is a sans-serif version of Laca. It was designed starting from the shapes of Laca. It is a cleaner version of Laca. Laca Text has characteristics like a bigger x-height, open counters, and smaller ascenders. It works better in smaller text than Laca because it keeps the structure without the stylistic features of Laca. Laca Text has more straight lines and follows the round shapes of Laca. Laca Text, as the name says, is more proper for long text but also for identity and branding.

Hand lettering isn’t a perfect art form, and this is why it often has an appeal over formal typesetting. Individual interpretation can lead to variations in style, character shape and overall design concept. Case in point: The hand-drawn title for the1933 sheet music “Why Can’t This Night Go on Forever” is a simple Art Deco sans, however it mixes character widths and even angles the letter ‘C’ in a nonconventional way. Deco Design JNL is the digital version of this alphabet, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Usually, the condensed version of a face comes after the regular design. Not with gogo squat. After gogo big, I thought how strong a regular version would be. A nice clean gutsy face. A "today" Franklin Gothic Extra Bold. I find it ideal for contemporary headlines as well as for logo solutions. As with gogo big, in my terms and conditions, I permit the modification of up to ten of the letter forms for logos and monograms, but logos and monograms only, not the typeface in normal usage.

P22 Civilite is a historic font revival. The font is a non-connecting upright handwriting script based on 16th century sources with a lineage going back to Robert Granjon in France and from early Dutch type specimens from the Enschede and Sons Foundry. The flexibility of the semi-condensed version makes it a typographic all-rounder. On the one hand CamingoDos SemiCondensed is perfectly suited for compact headline settings. On the other hand, it works well as an ergonomic, space-saving typeface for large texts. This family was created -- inspired from the engraved typeface (Two styles : Normal & Italic) used in the pack of 52 playing cards who was describing the 52 counties forming a small Atlas of England and Wales and depicting English roads for the first time, published by Sir Robert Morden in 1676. Our OTF and TTF versions are covering Western, Eastern and Central European languages (including Celtic), Baltic and Turkish, containing historical and standard ligatures plus specific Old English abbreviations. The MacTT Classic version is containing the basic standard 256 glyphs including some extra ligatures.

Sistina, designed by Hermann Zapf in 1950 was first named Aurelia Titling. It is a heavy supplement to the Michelangelo Titling based on studies of inscriptions in Rome. First release in hotmetal at D. Stempel AG, Frankfurt in 1951. Sistina was originally an all caps font. The digital version from Linotype contains small caps. Hermann Zapf together with Akira Kobayashi, type director from Linotype had made a new revised version of Sistina now named as Palatino Imperial" in the Palatino nova type family, a Platinum Collection product from Linotype."

HWT Aetna is a revival of the sturdy Roman style of wood type most often called simply Aetna. This new digital version by Aaron Bell features four widths all based on the various widths commonly offered by 19th Century wood type manufacturers. In addition, there is a four-layer all-caps version Aetna based on the the famous Wm. Page Chromatic Types, that allows the user the ability to easily create these chromatic streamer and shadow effects. Both the multiple width Aetnas and Streamer component fonts support full Western and Eastern European languages.

Letterpress type, crafted by H. Th. Wijdeveld, founding editor and chief designer of the legendary Dutch art and architecture magazine Wendingen, provided the inspiration for this typeface. The original design graced a 1925 issue examining the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Wijdeveld created his typeface by assembling bits of standard brass rules. This version features several of the meanders typical of Wijdeveld’s graphic design in the dagger, double dagger, ASCII tilde and ASCII circumflex positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

When 45 RPM records were the norm for a teenager’s music collection in the 1950s and 1960s, many discs had their labels printed by letterpress. Some record companies utilized a bold, condensed typeface set in all caps for the song’s title and other pertinent information. The digital version of this font is called Recording Artist JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. A companion font loosely based on this type design [but with more original characters and a slightly lighter weight] is Promotional Copy JNL.
