After inventing a new metal typecasting procedure that allowed for the production of more detailed typefaces, the famous German typefoundry D. Stempel AG developed Kuenstler Script in 1902 - 1903. Originally called Kunstlerschreibschrift (artistic handwriting), this design was based on English copperplate script styles from the late 1800s. In 1957, Hans Bohn added the heavy Kuenstler Script Black weight to the family. Redshift is sans with 12 upright weights and 12 oblique weights. Its a soft edged, spaced out offering from Rocket Type. It supports most extended Latin languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Polish and Portuguese. The name redshift means the displacement of spectral lines toward longer wavelengths (the red end of the spectrum) in radiation from distant galaxies and celestial objects. The original concept behind the font was that I wanted to create a massive heavy sans which would give the sense of tranquility within the user not unlike watching an object float through space. Redshift was designed by Dathan Boardman during 2016. Strongly rooted in the tradition of other notable geometric sans faces however much attention was paid to create a soothing experience for reading both large and small bodies of text. Each letter was painstakingly modified for optimal readability and warmth. Redshift was designed with the intent to create the ultimate bold header font. From there I wanted create the lighter weights to be readable when set within large bodies of text. Redshift works great for body headers & text as well as for logo design. It looks great juxtaposed with any number of other Rocket Type Fonts.

It hit me one day that the '60s-vintage labelmaker I had lying around might make an interesting display face. I began playing with it -- clicking out letters at various pressures, scanning the results, going over the scans in a vector-graphics program. Looked pretty good. To my chagrin, however, I soon afterward got a glimpse of someone else's label-tape font. Though modeled after a more modern device, its rocketing popularity prompted me to set Chromosome aside for a year or so. Finally finished it up in late-1995. Full release has light and heavy weights, regular and reversed styles.

Signage JNL shows the heavy influence of the perennial favorite Futura Black with a couple of minor changes here and there. The design was inspired by a set of British brass stencils for sale in an online auction.

The Wild West meets Russia and India in this heavy duty display face. Although it's uppercase only, most of the characters vary between the uppercase and lowercase alphabets, so it's easy to give your text a hand-made feel by mixing up your cases. OpenType savvy applications can really exploit the extra features of this font. Engage contextual alternates, and G, C, L and alternate form of E will change when placed before a letter with a crossbar to create some cool effects (see the CK and LE combinations in the poster). There are standard ligatures for ff and FF combinations, and discretionary ligatures for 'and', 'the', 'No', 'Mc' and 'Co'. Engage stylistic alternates for a reversed 3 version of E, and the obligatory backwards R for that faux-Russian effect. Also included in the font is a host of ornaments. This font is perfect for wanted posters, heavy metal band logos, Communist propaganda leaflets and no doubt a load of other things too.

Ponderosa font is a joint work of the typeface designers K.B. Chansler, C. Crossgrove and C. Twombly, who also created Rosewood, Zebrawood and Pepperwood together. As the name suggests, it is so-called wood type. The origins of this kind of typeface can be found in the early 19th century. Called Italian or Italienne, these typefaces quickly became very popular. They are distinguished by square serifs whose width is larger than the stroke width of the characters. When the letters are set together, the heavy serifs build dark horizontal bands. The distinguishing characteristic of Ponderosa lies in its extremely fine figures between heavy serifs. The designers approached the boundaries of the impossible with this contrast. The typeface is reminiscent of the Wild West with its shootouts and heroes as well as of the 1970s with their platform shoes and wild hair-dos. When used carefully in headlines, Ponderosa font will surely attract attention.
