Tomate started in 2006 as a brush lettering exercise for a poster and was later used for the ReType identity. In 2008 its author decided to turn it into a super fat typeface suitable for packaging and mass consumption products. The possibilities of ultra heavy forms are explored in this alphabet; trying to solve the design problems that these sort of forms present. Tomate shows influences from the beautiful Goudy Heavyface Italic which is a design the author admires.

Designed for ParaType in 2003 by Tagir Safayev. The typeface was inspired by some of the Cyrillic letterforms of Sergey Chekhonin (1878-1936). Chekhonin belonged to the World of Art group, which is so closely associated with the flowering of Russian book and theater design at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1995, David Berlow cut Moderno FB for Esquire Gentleman and Reforma from a TrueType pole of Giza. In 1996 he cut new styles with Richard Lipton for El Norte. In 1997, Roger Black ordered new weights for Tages Anzeiger. A redesign of the Baltimore Sun, with Ionic FB as text, required further growth. The whole series was then revised for Louise Vincent, at the Montreal Gazette, with further styles added in 2005 for La Stampa. FB 1994-2008

Mellnik is a sans serif of humanist style (in a way) that was developed by Oleg Karpinsky for ParaType in 2006. The type family contains nine styles with a number of alternate characters in each ones. For use as a text font in long text passages of advertising booklets, catalogues or magazines, as well as for accident setting. Mellnik may be also applied as a corporate typeface. Five condensed styles were added in 2007 by the same designer.

This family was created inspired from the typeface models hand drawn circa 1610s by Basilius Besler (Germany) for the carved plates of his spendid “Hortus eystettensis”, a botanical manual, masterpiece of the period. Eccentric was designed in 1881 by Gustav F. Schroeder. It is an all-capital, narrow-bodied, monoline display face that could be described as high waisted. With cross-bars and main junctures more than halfway up the letterforms, every letter - except the W - has a long-legged appearance. Eccentric has a wide range of display uses, from playbills to fashion advertisements.

This serif typeface was designed to be simple and neutral on text sizes, there descender proportions are short and the x-height is large. The lowercase italics contain different structure from roman characters, but the most differentiation detail is the fact the ascender and descender strokes don’t contain serifs. Italics characters are slightly more narrow and condensed than roman letterforms.

Huggy is a display typeface designed by Michael Parson and inspired by the work of Heinrich Heinz. Lichtspiele Reklame is the ultra condensed version of Lichtspiele inspired by the 1920s — the golden age of cinema — where neon lights and marquee letters decorated cinema facades. Lichtspiele Reklame is crafted for large narrow formats and contains the display font and two italics (italic & contra-italic), like in these 20s, a time where movie announcements were shown on huge so called Litfaßsäulen.

A narrow sans serif, FUD Grotesk was inspired by brutalist architecture and modernist typography. There is a subtle stroke contrast, many inktraps, and even some microserifs (look for them in the main strokes!). Note the closed bowl apertures, exaggerated in the alternate forms, which result in a dense, ornate typeset. Five weights (from Light to Bold), and a large set of discretionary ligatures.

Miso was designed for architects' drawings. It’s a clean and narrow typeface suitable for small text but also for headlines and logos. The spacing of Miso follows the logic of mono-stroke fonts as found in CAD software. The starting point for this typeface was the lettering style of the International Organization for Standarization found in ISO 3098-0:1997.

Prestige Elite is a word processor face which offers clear and monospaced type. The slanted versions have kept the same design as the roman font. The word Elite denoted a specific size of typewriter face. Ruqaa font is one of the original Arabic fonts. It is the most common font and is written in most Arab countries because it has the potential to be written in a narrow space when compared to other Arabic fonts. Foundry Journal is appropriately named for its intended purpose in journals, magazines and publications, where narrow column measures require a more condensed typeface, for the most economic use of page space. Foundry Journal has a characteristic subtle angularity, accentuated by well-defined curve to stem junctions, facilitating legibility and making it an ideal typeface when set at small point sizes.

Stone skipping creates water ripples. This font expands by the same principle. A small, narrow base growing to the top, right, bottom and left until it reaches the shores. Closer Text is a narrower, more compact version of previously released Closer. Closer Text is a highly customizable Swiss grotesque with overclosed aperture. Featuring some humanistic shapes, Closer Text feels less bland though still relatively neutral. Closer Text comes in 9 weights (18 styles altogether), features extensive language support including Cyrillic and is highly customizable with 7 stylistic sets to mix and match.

There are many sans serif typefaces with calligraphic tendencies, but Suomi Sans is different: the outside forms are fairly basic, fairly narrow sans serif style, but the counter forms have a strong calligraphic flair with accented upper left and lower right hand corners. With six weights in Roman and italic, Suomi Sans works well for both headline and text use.

Ciabatta is a luscious font made especially for packaging. Thanks to 5 weights, it can be used for all eventualities; powerful in headlines or as lettering, yet very legible in small texts. Its shapes are slightly narrow and based on classical italics but Ciabatta includes alternates with a double-storey ‘a’ and ‘g’ which offer a more formal appearance upright.
