A precursor to Art Deco headline/display sans serif typefaces with thick and thin strokes is the Matthews Series (circa 1902). It was manufactured and sold through the Inland Type Foundry of St. Louis, MO. Digitally redrawn as Merchant Trade JNL, it’s now available in both regular and oblique versions.

Yard Goods JNL is another typeface derived from a sign making outfit consisting of a series of stencils manufactured by the Display Material Company of St. Paul Minnesota. Petite Fleur is a combination of engraved, flowery embellishments and the Capitals of my redesigned Royal Romain (Romain du Roi), the exclusive font of King Louis XIV. It is best used as initials only, but can be mixed with Royal Romain. On the keys for ≥ and ≤ I designed two filler embellishments and the ciphers 0-9 are embellished as well. Enjoy! In his book of 100 Wood Type Alphabets, Rob Roy Kelly called this face "Teutonic". This version adds lowercase letters, missing in the original, plus a few woodcut dingbats in the brackets, bar, section and florin positions. Named for a charming town in the Texas Hill Country, founded by German settlers in the mid-1850s. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).
