I wanted to create a "handwriting" font which could be used professionally. I have often needed such a font with a variety of weights and styles for a particular project and have had to resort to mixing fonts, creating a rather messy, amateur job. Camy is named for a little village in South West France where I did much of the initial work on this font. Filou is a genuine bastard inspired by three different typefaces. It consists of three weights: "Regular", "Medium" and "Extra" which can be easily mixed together.

This is That: a family of four weights with roman and true italics, and also with chiselled medium weight, and Irregular variant for, well, variety.

Daniel Berkeley Updike seems to have stimulated the architect Bertram G. Goodhue to design the prototype in 1896 for Ingalls Kimball at the Cheltenham Press. Six years later Morris Fuller Benton at ATF developed it into the design and then the series that we know today. “Owing to certain eccentricities of form,” writes Updike, “it cannot be read comfortably for any length of time.” But he concludes: “It is, however, an exceedingly handsome letter for ephemeral printing.” Mergenthaler bought composing machine rights to the original design c. 1896, but bought the Benton design in 1904.

Tecnica Slab font family has been designed for Graviton Font Foundry by Pablo Balcells. It is a modular, geometric, slab serif typeface with a slightly condensed design and subtle rounded angles. It has been conceived to be most suitable for all sized headlines, as well as short and middle length text blocks. The standard styles give texts a classic appearence while alternate styles give texts a playfull one. Tecnica Slab consists of 4 styles, 2 weights plus alternates, each containing small caps and glyph coverage for several languages.

Litera was designed in 1983 by Michael Neugebauer, who used the same strict constructed design found in his typeface Circulus. In its figures are the clear geometric forms of the circle, triangle and rectangle, which were also the main forms of Bauhaus designs. The overall look of Litera is modern, clear and light. Distinguishing characteristics are the openness and the e and P and the particularly long cross stroke of the G. The cool Litera is best for middle length texts and headlines. Similar typefaces include Futura from Paul Renner and Avenir from Adrian Frutiger.

Agadir is a font inspired by a logo of the 60s. Its fundamental characteristic is that it is regular, with the possibility of choosing between ascending and descending of two different lengths. Agadir font is the perfect mix of elegant and casual. The Open Type features include standard and contextual alternates, swatches, stylistic sets, ligatures. All this makes the text lively and bouncy, without the monotony of obviously repeated letterforms. Agadir looks good in children's books, book covers, magazines, logos, fashion, restaurant menus, packaging, wedding invitations, greeting and business cards and where you want it.

Biffo was designed by David Marshall and produced in 1964. The alphabet in handwritten style has the character of writing done with a broad tipped pen. The figures are round and flexible, even its vertical strokes have rounded edges, softening the look of the characters. The basic forms show parallels with a pear shape: generous in the lower third and thinning out as they move upward. Biffo is a unique, lively typeface perfect for personal correpondence and for communicating spontaneity. It is best for short and middle length texts as well as headlines.

ITC Binary was designed by Mauricio Reyes in 1997 as a semiserif font with a pronounced stroke contrast. A distinguishing characteristic of this font is that many of the lower case letters seem to be missing a small piece of their forms, either at the base line or x-height. Setting the letters together makes an impression of waviness which draws the attention of the reader. Binary is a reserved, elegant font which should be used in point sizes of 10 or larger and only in headlines and short to middle length texts.

Fisionada font family has been designed for Graviton Font Foundry by Pablo Balcells in 2023. It is a condensed sans serif typeface with sharp edges and a very technical aesthetics. Its condensed design makes it very effective for space economizing and its geometric features make it a very attractive choice for display usages such as futuristics logos, video games and sci-fi content. It has been conceived to be most suitable for headlines and short length text blocks. Fisionada consists of 8 styles. Each containing small caps and glyph coverage for several languages.

Linotype Pide Nashi is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. German artist Verena Gerlach created a typeface which looks almost like Arabic at the first glance, only with the second do the familiar forms become clear. Rounded lower case letters, generous, sweeping capitals and diamond-shaped ornaments give the font its Arabic feel. The exotic Linotype Pide Nashi is best suited for short and middle length texts and headlines and especially for ornamental texts.

A meeting of Byzantine and Art Deco forms, Aphasia began as a series of handwritten captions to accompany drawings in the early 1990s. The drawings were abandoned to allow the lettering to become the real composition. Playfully set in blocks of verse with each line shaped through free-association, the only visual rule was that all the lines of capitals be of equal length. The challenge of the game required extensive abbreviations, ligatures, small caps, and superiors. With the advent of Letraset’s FontStudio program, the project moved into the typographic realm.

Wood Type Catalogs of the 19th century often offered tools and accessories alongside alphabets of wood type. Probably the most closely related was wood type borders and ornaments. Decorative Borders were often sold by the foot and accompanied by corner pieces that matched the designs. These borders could be assembled in almost any size dimensions as needed. The digital version uses the same principals of modular assembly to create the exact size border that is needed. Along with the borders, included in this font are a selection of "streamers". These banners would have been made to order with the font designs reversed out along a horizontal banner with decorative end caps. The digital version allows for a modular assembly by selecting choice of end caps and then typing the = as many times as needed to achieve the desired length. 10 styles of 9 piece borders can be created in any size variations as well as 8 styles of streamers in any desired length. Some of the designs can be mixed and matched for unusual contemporary design interpretations of these historic styles. It is recommended that the line height (leading) is set to the same size as the point size setting, this will visually lock all elements together.

OkayCursive began over coffee, in a local flower shop, where my wife takes a floral arrangement class. I discovered a book there, with old photographs from Paris of flower shop displays. What caught my eye in the background of one of these photos, was the hand-painted lettering on a sign. Inspired, I quickly sketched some of the letters on a napkin and stuck it in my pocket. I began to sketch more over the next few days, looking to construct a full-out cursive font with this distinct French look. I wanted my design to be creative & free flowing, but I also wanted it to be at least somewhat proper. So, I consulted some schoolbooks for reference on the correct cursive forms. After more drawing, I began to create the final vector art. Gradually, these ideas -- plus many hours of careful kerning and metrics -- came together to form OkayCursive. Use OkayCursive any time you want fancy, legible, and luxurious text. Works great if you are designing a logo, or use it to create some beautiful titling. Use it for advertisement copy, or even for short to medium-length bodies of text -- go ahead and have fun with it. Lc Trinidad is the result of a series of wonderings regarding geometric Sans Serif typography design, in particular; Futura of Paul Renner. A “conversation” arose between me and the designer – actually there was no conversation, it is an euphemism for “I saw his designs, I draw them and discussed with myself some of his decisions – that ended up being the origin of this font firsts glyphs: A, H, N, O, R and S. I started with uppercase letters, and here is when Rudolf Koch with Kabel and his “Das schreibbuchlein” joined the conversation. This is how I could develop some alternative lowercase letters so as to illustrate this imaginary discussion. The result is a sans serif, geometric, modern typeface with classical Roman proportion in the uppercase letters; two stylistic sets for lowercase letters (setKoch and setRenner), rational, open and sharp ends. It is ideal to form titles, medium length texts, branding, exhibitions and animations. The family consists of 9 weight variants and their corresponding oblique versions and small caps.
