KnockType is based on the concept of braille notation in Japanese. It does not support braille notation in other languages. KnockType is not necessarily aimed at facilitating “braille transcription”. It is designed so that someone who understands the grammar of “braille transcription” can instantly transliterate into braille text that was previously transcribed to kana characters, etc. In addition, it allows ink characters to be converted to braille using OpenType features. It is recommended for use in applications that are compatible with OpenType features. If they are not compatible, KnockType is “simply a kana font”. To be a little more specific, it is assumed that KnockType will be used in Adobe’s InDesign and Illustrator applications. If you don't have them, you will not get satisfactory results. Four types of font are available. There are “hasBox&Line”, “hasnotBox&Line”, and the reversed font of each. When displayed on a convex surface, the assumption is that they will be used mainly for printing applications. When displayed on a concave surface, the assumption is that they will be used mainly for writing on braille boards, etc. By printing, you can get a rough idea of the dot positions. It is more effective to match them to the grid size of the braille board.

Fun. Fun isn't it? But sometimes you can have too much fun, and things can get out of hand. Revla Sans is, in certain situations, too much fun. So, without further ado, let me introduce the straight man to Revla Sans's buffoon - Revla Sans Text. It represents a complete overhaul of Revla Sans. The bounciness has been removed and details reined in, all for the purpose of optimizing the fonts for use in longer runs of text. 'Text' is perhaps a strong word here; you're not going to be setting novels in this typeface. It still retains the charm of the original, and could well be used in display settings. Think of it like this - Revla Sans would be a great choice for the logo and branding of a board game, no? Revla Sans Text, then, would be good for setting the instructions, or body copy on the website. Revla Sans Text is not as feature-rich as Revla Sans, and is priced accordingly. Enjoy!

This face was recommended to me by Mark Solsburg, president of FontHaus. At first I was a bit reluctant to revive it, if for no other reason than Frederic Goudy’s admission that he created this design “in a moment of typographic weakness.” However, I put the sample that Mark sent me up on my bulletin board, and over a period of time, it grew on me. It finally got to the point that I had to recreate the face, and from the response that I’ve gotten, I’m glad I did! Uppercase only with numerals and punctuation.

This decorative tech typeface is inspired by the printed circuits boards of the twentieth century. Its default character set suggests commercially manufactured circuits while the OpenType alternates give more of a home-brew feel. The font is ideal for technical decorative titles in subjects as diverse as computers, techno music, ham radio, or “maker”-culture communications. »QUINCY« started as an art project. I was stitching roughly cutout letters together on a piece of wooden board, but I didn’t like the result! So I ended up with a font in three cutout styles. I thought it was so unusual and really beautifully ugly, that I finished it, adding flashes here and there. Now I am offering this absolutely unusual font as a packet of three for you to enjoy. Have at least as much fun working with it as I had designing the packet. The font is great for packaging or posters, or whatever comes to your imaginations.

This is long awaited thorough revision to Skarpa family. The revision has inculded both another look at letter shapes as well as kerning and metrics of the files. The shapes encapsulated in this font stem from old time architectural drawings hand executed at drawing board with tracing paper and rapidographs. Think of lettering stencils sliding across the tracing paper and craftily exectuted drawing descriptions. The font is based on geometric forms devoid of excessive flourishing. The letters and numbers of a home movie titling kit from circa the 1950s or 1960s called the Magna Tech Titler Number 312 were die-cut from cardboard with a magnetic backing and were styled after Futura Bold. The user of this set composed the desired title or phrase onto a metalized board and the result was photographed with their 8 or 16mm camera. Because the dies of the characters were handmade, very slight variations in the shape and stroke width of the lettering would occasionally occur. These variations were incorporated into the design of the digital type face. Intermediate JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

So I made five rather odd characters for a logo for a friend… Then I thought I'd fill a couple of spare hours expanding it to a single alphabet… And some considerable time later I ended up with a whole font with full punctuation, a bunch of alternates, pretty broad international support and some OpenType features to keep things varied… There are elements of Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Lego, circuit boards and Ceefax, Memphis lamps and lab clamps, hieroglyphs, googly eyes and who knows what else… Intricate, insane, highly irregular, but somehow it hangs together… Throw down a few letters nice and big when the fancy takes you…

This font has been on my drawing board since the late eighties. It was based on drawings provided to me by an old sign-painter family friend and we used it extensively as a caps-only font in the early 90s on a cellphone ad campaign. It loves to be tight set and stacked and provides real grunt when you need it. Small caps have been added and have been weight and proportion adjusted so as to complement the caps. At Type Associates we believe that a font is not complete until the spacing is optimal. Carmel is another example of quality through extensive experience, testing, adjusting and refining.
