Museum Borders and Ornaments is part of a typographical treasure, the Norstedts type collection in Sweden. Type designer Torbjörn Olsson has painstakingly translated the original 34 Ornament matrices in the collection to Open Type. Among them are several of Granjon's arabesques, as well as symbols from both Swedish and Danish typefoundries. The signs were cut in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The old Swedish name for these "type trademarks" were "rössjor". Museum Borders and Ornaments is an OpenType creation, for both PC and Mac. Swedish type foundry T4 premiere new fonts every month. Station is a bold headline typeface inspired by old Train Station type and graphics. It can be used in a modern and retro way, and its different patterns and styles give a unique look to any design.

This font was inspired by the Latin script used in European monasteries from circa the 5th to 8th centuries, before the Carolingian “Caroline” (look at our 825 Karolus). It was a regular script, rounded, written slowly, used mainly for specially meticulous books, with a few ligatures, legible, but only with lowercase. The capitals consisted of enlarged lower cases, but here, we have preferred to use two slightly different patterns. Our lower cases are a synthesis from a lot of variants (mainly from the “First Bible” of Charles The Bald), the upper cases were mainly inspired from a 700’s manuscript from the abbey of Fécamp (France). We have adapted the font for contemporary users, differentiating between U and V, I and J, which has no relevance for ancient Latin scribes, and naturally with Thorn, Oslash, Lslash, K, W... punctuation and the usual accented characters which did not exist at the time. It can be used with 799 Insular Title.

Pargrid is a grid-based typographic experiment from the young Swiss designer Michael Parson. What does a 1932 movie about a love affair between a circus' trapeze artist and a sideshow "little person" have to do with the 1960s counter-culture? They both share some commonalities. The title card for Tod Browning's "Freaks" inspired the lettering design for Hippie Freak JNL. It's in a retro style that was embraced by the youth movement that had its epicenter in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Circus performers with birth defect abnormalities were displayed in what was referred to as "freak shows"; while young men with long hair and beards who sought peace, love and an end to the war in Vietnam were commonly referred to as "hippie freaks". As the saying goes "the more things change, the more they stay the same".
