Vatican is a calligraphic face. The lower case is influenced by the lettering of Arthur Baker but the caps are more formal, the shape of the Cap V reminded me of a Bishops Mitre which led eventually to the name. The lighter weight works particually well in small text pieces

Witchcraft is a classic Roman font in three weights and corresponding italics. The ‘v’,’w’,and ‘y’, use the old style join at the top reminiscent of Georg Belwe’s Roman design “Belwe”. The large x-height makes for a powerful headline font but excellent for text setting especially in the lighter weights.

Ziro expresses itself boldly and spontaneously. It consists of two different sets of capitals to help create natural handwriting effect. The letter "I" is treated like a lowercase "I" and the letter "O" has a dot in the center. The lowercase variation does not have a dot in the center for those less adventurous applications. Ziro is loose and raw in larger sizes and therefore has many useful applications that may include restaurant logos, menus, boutiques, packaging, etc.

The ornamented and magnificent type design used with the color plates of Owen Jones' “The Grammar of Ornament” has served as a model for this nineteenth century typeface. Acton is a deceptively simple, grid-based design. Though derived from a 2 by 3 arrangement of blocks, it uses white spaces to allow for more complex shapes – for example as the R – where the underlying 3 by 5 arrangement is apparent. It also departs from this strict grid-based logic for characters such as the the T, L, f and r, whose cross-bars are shorter than they would otherwise be in order to promote optical evenness. No elegant solution could be found for the V, which in geometric fonts can appear very similar to the U, lacking as it does the cross-bar that can differentiate a square A from the capital form of the n. However, the resultant diagonal retroactively proved useful on the lower-case e and a, characters that otherwise would have more uninteresting design solutions.

Birdcage was designed from a very short lettering sample in Rob Roy Kelly's American Wood Type book, from the image I created a complete font plus a regular version with lowercase. In the past banner style fonts would limit you to a monospaced look, so how do you kern a banner font? Well, with today's OpenType font format the solution is simple, draw the kerning pairs together as one character glyph and place them inside the font then use auto substitution to access those characters when needed. Birdcage (OpenType version) includes 249 auto ligature kerning pairs, to use this feature you will need an application that takes advantage of OpenType features such as Adobe CS products.
