Claude Duflos was a French engraver and printmaker at the end of the 1600s. He produced a great number of beautiful plates, executed principally with the graver very neatly finished. At the base of his work we can appreciate his legible lettering carefully executed with his particular ductus. During this period three different hands were developed in France: Ronde (an script deriving from “Civilité”), “Lettre Italianne” and Bâtarde Coulée that is a modification of ronde. The hand of joined letters, which lent itself to a rapid writing, became a model for English round hand or copperplate style. CDuflos is our typographic interpretation of the lettering style produced by Claude Duflos. CDuflos is presented in two versions: Basic and Extended Pro, which include diacritics for Central European languages. The Pro version also comes with a set of decorative glyphs including ligatures, alternates and swashes, including terminal letters and a set of ornaments.

Emulating real handwriting has always been an aim of font designers in the digital age. The standard mainstream scripts and doodles that were available for the longest time have not successfully reached that goal. A letter always looked the same wherever you placed it. Some workarounds, such as letter alternates and ligatures, were used in many fonts, but they were a bit inconvenient to use, and in some cases didn't work correctly because they had to be placed in separate fonts from the main character set. Not until now, with OpenType technology, have we been able to emulate real handwriting, by including multiple character sets in the same font and programming it for smart form changes through letter sequence counting. Secret Scrypt was the first Canada Type font to make it to the bestseller list in the summer of 2004. In early 2005 a New York restaurant chain picked Secret Scrypt to use on its menus and internal signage, but they wanted to look even more like real handwriting, where two or three instances of the same letter used in one word would automatically change and look different from each other. Using OpenType technology, Canada Type produced a Secret Scrypt Pro for that restaurant chain under the direction of Mucca Design in New York City. That initial version contained three different character sets in the same font, and some intelligent programming that determines the sequence of the letters and change their shapes accordingly. Now the retail version of Secret Scrypt Pro is available, with four character sets built into the font for even more variety on the real handwriting theme. Sonetto is a typeface designed for the making of poetry books comprised of two styles: Regular, for setting prose, and Italic for verses. It is the result of a typographical exploration carried out at the UBA Type Design Master’s which sought to relate italics and cursive italics. Initial drawings were based on Griffo’s italics and early 16th century italian manuscripts that showcased connections between letters. Sonetto is in fact a historical revival, not of a particular style, but rather of a broader concept.

The main difference between Accord Alt and Accord is in the way curved strokes join with vertical stems in letters such as “bpn”. The Italics are designed at an italic angle of 10 degrees. All the letter forms have been kept similar while designing italic instead changing the form e.g. 'a' remains same double story in italic also instead changing it to single story. The intention is to keep it simple and neutral which helps communicate the corporate sense of professionalism.

Sheet Music JNL was based on lettering found on an old piece of 1930s-era sheet music being sold at a local rummage sale.

Quidic is an unusual display typeface. The upper-case letters are strongly vertical, condensed, and bold. Used by themselves, they make headlines and titles that stand out. The lower case letters do not have serifs similar to those on the upper-case letters, but rather have the serif shapes one expects from an italic style. The lower-case is also quite short compared to the upper-case letters. The italic styles of the family are unusual because the lower-case letters keep their shapes and the upper-case letters and numbers change. The family has three styles that differ more by width rather than by weight. Although some Bauhaus fonts have several letter shapes that are similar, there is no other typeface quite like Quidic. Petunia is a calligraphy style font designed by New York based calligrapher Eliza Gwendalyn . Her modern copperplate script has been a style she has been developing throughout her career. Her angelic flourishes and bouncy style are widely influenced by Eliza’s favorite childhood character Alice in Wonderland falling down the rabbit hole. She pairs her elegant script with a traditional sans serif and serif which is based on Eliza’s everyday handwriting. The name ‘Petunia' acquired from her childhood nickname her parents called her which was only fitting to choose as the name of her font that was derived from her childhood fantasies. Stapel is a contemporary closed sans serif with sci-fi looking forms and eloquent, thin stroke joints. The superfamily consists of three subfamilies of different width: Normal, Narrow and Condensed. Each subfamily contains seven weights with corresponding true italics. Additionally, there are several extra wide bold styles. All these styles work perfectly in headings and short display texts. Another important subfamily is Stapel Text which includes upright and italic styles of lower contrast and more generous spacing. Text styles are great for body text in small and medium point sizes. In a vintage photograph, promotional signage outside an old theater for the 1929 early sound film “The Doctor’s Secret” had lettering in a wide, bold Art Nouveau slab serif design. This was the model for Talking Picture JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Beppo is a bold upright casual script with a condensed character width and a full palette of ordindals, small caps, and diacritics. Beppo flavors things up with old style figures and quirky, contextual alternate connections. Legible, compact and smothered in typographic cheese - it just smells good!

Originally designed for American Type Founders, Goudy drew inspiration from the classical old style faces for Goudy Old Style. Round characters have a strong diagonal stress, ascenders are fairly long but descenders are very short. Goudy bold was introduced in 1920; this was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. This typeface has been particularly popular in America where it is extensively used in advertising, book jackets, for labels and packaging.

Mackay is a powerful transitional serif in 6 weights plus matching italics, designed for screen and print. The eccentric serifs on uppercase letters like E, F, L and T are inspired by Alexander Kay’s “Ronaldson” from 1884, working as the starting point for the family. The lowercase letters follow the traditional Antiqua model with attributes tracing back to drawings from the early 20th century. The “grotesk” lowercase a, as well as the sharp lowercase s, derived from the closed shapes of uppercase letters like C, G or S, create a compact and bold appearance while a large x-height and small descenders add a modern look. In favor of a dynamic and elegant impression, the design of the italic cuts come with a strong calligraphic influence. This results in completely new shapes for letters like lowercase a or g, ensuring a smooth integration into their surrounding letters while maintaining a distinctive appearance when combining with romans. The family comes with a variety of opentype features like case sensitive shapes, old style figures, fractions, ordinals and many more. Additional attention was given to the standard and discretionary ligatures, extending the structure of the basic glyphs with elegantly designed letter combinations for g/i, i/t or s/t. According to their dynamic architecture, the italic weights are equipped with additional initial swash characters to subtle accentuate the calligraphic roots. As a result of a high stroke contrast the family works great in paragraphs with medium to large font sizes like headlines, short paragraphs or logos. With its 12 cuts, the family meets all requirements on high quality typography.

A great overall Text and Headline face, with its matching drawn Italic it has unlimited possibilites. Even as a stand alone, the Italic will work in just about any design.

Cumhuriyet means “the form of government in which the nation holds the sovereignty and uses it through deputies elected for certain periods”. The reason why I gave this name to the font is that 2023 is the centennial anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, which was founded by Atatürk. The handwritten cursive by the famous Italian Casanova has inspired Petra Beiße to design a new script, the “Casanova Script Pro”, with a complement of over 1400 characters and symbols. “Casanova Script Regular” is the basic version of this font with a reduced West-Layout. “Petras Script”, the first digital script font created by the calligrapher Petra Beiße, has, for many years, met with worldwide success.
