Rollerscript is, in effect, a more modern version of Olicana whose letterforms were drafted using a nibbed pen and ink. Handwriting tends to change depending on what instrument you're using and with Rollerscript the outcome is decidedly more casual and informal than Olicana, though equally realistic. Pronounced pressure points where characters start, end or join make for a very authentic hand drawn appearance which is enhanced still further through the use of over 100 standard ligatures. The all-caps display face Sandwich was inspired by historic, hand lettered sans serif alphabets with slightly sloping terminals, as found in showcard lettering and on billboards. Besides a number of alternate glyphs located in the lowercase area of the font, the typeface features about forty 'ligatures'. These are not ligatures in the traditional sense of the word, but short two- or three-letter combinations — mostly prepositions, conjunctions, articles and so on — in different languages, which are positioned vertically, not horizontally. Since the number of such pre-fabricated ligatures in a font is limited and cannot possibly cover all the desired combinations, a special algorithm programmed into the OpenType font permits the user to compose any two- or three-letter words, provided no accented characters are used. This is why Sandwich includes five versions of each letter. Using the full possibilities offered by the OpenType format, the automatic vertical aligning of glyphs is based on a combination of optional ligatures, style sets, and modified kerning.

Veranda Poster was derived from a European art supply manufacturer’s logotype done in the Vienna (Wien) Austria style. This distinctive classic style was used by artists such as Julius Klinger and Willy Willrab in the 1920s. Two new faces have been added to the original version - Veranda Poster Small Caps and Veranda Poster Alternates. Here is an extensive collection of capital and small cap alternates plus a wide selection of figures for almost any use. The contemporary alternate additions have a slightly Russian flavor. The combination of all three styles makes for striking logo and display settings. All three styles are now available in the OpenType Std format. The Madison Ave. family started from Madison Ave. at Fontstruct.com. As my most downloaded font, this was an easy, although not necessarily logical choice to make – regarding taking an existing free font and attempting to offer it for purchase. The font is very basic and simple in its layout, but has achieved popularity over at Dafont with almost 80,000 downloads with its cool, understated nature and inherent sophistication. The original Madison Ave. is now 95 Madison Ave. A couple of glyphs have changed from the original, but mostly the set is the same. The big news here is the availability of multiple variations on the original. Ninety-five refers to the filter settings used to achieve the faint cross lines in the font. The sequence 95-100 provides a gradual fade to solid effect when used together. The other versions use variations on the filter settings that allow each its own distinctive flavor, while at the same time maintaining inherent characteristics of the original. Ninety-five is now joined by 55, 75, 97, 99, 100, 102, 105, 155, 175, 201, 202, and 275. 100 is the solid version which doesn’t contain the trademark lines found in 95. In 95-99, the line width varies to achieve subtle effects. 50 and 85 are distorted by reducing the filter settings in a somewhat minimizing fashion. In 102-205, these are distorted by increasing the filter settings above the normal which is what 100 represents. While some of the effects are extreme and challenge the legibility of text, these can be fun or edgy. They offer a cohesion that can be used to advantage for different projects that require the use of a modern font family.

Quidic is an unusual display typeface. The upper-case letters are strongly vertical, condensed, and bold. Used by themselves, they make headlines and titles that stand out. The lower case letters do not have serifs similar to those on the upper-case letters, but rather have the serif shapes one expects from an italic style. The lower-case is also quite short compared to the upper-case letters. The italic styles of the family are unusual because the lower-case letters keep their shapes and the upper-case letters and numbers change. The family has three styles that differ more by width rather than by weight. Although some Bauhaus fonts have several letter shapes that are similar, there is no other typeface quite like Quidic. Stapel is a contemporary closed sans serif with sci-fi looking forms and eloquent, thin stroke joints. The superfamily consists of three subfamilies of different width: Normal, Narrow and Condensed. Each subfamily contains seven weights with corresponding true italics. Additionally, there are several extra wide bold styles. All these styles work perfectly in headings and short display texts. Alternate Gothic was designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Typefounders Company in 1903. All three weights of Alternate Gothic are bold and narrow. In fact, this face is essentially a condensed version of Benton’s other well-known sans serif types, Franklin Gothic and News Gothic. In the early twentieth century, the modern concept of type “families” had not yet been formed — and though Benton designed these sans serifs to harmonize with each other, the foundry gave them different names. Robust, dark, and coolly competent, Alternate Gothic is a good choice when strong typographic statements must fit into tight spaces.
