Beat Poet JNL is a throwback to the late 50s and early 60s when Beatniks hung out at coffee houses to listen to poetry and folk songs and live the Bohemian lifestyle of the Pre-Hippie generation.

This typeface was inspired by Gering and Remboldt's work during the late 1490s. Their printing concern, the Soleil d'or in Paris, was one of the printing business to engage in the use of blackletter printing, when the rest of the Parisian printers where using humanist influenced roman typefaces. This peculiar backwards trend was really one of the original examples of "retro", taking advantage of the desires of the more conservative northern Europe that had not yet embraced the newer roman types.

This humanistic sans serif design was inspired by a conversation that David Quay had with renowned type designer Hans Meyer, during ATypI in Paris, 1989. Meyer revealed that Sabon, designed by Jan Tschichold, was the inspiration behind his Syntax font. This approach formed the basis for the design development of The Foundry's very first sans serif typeface family; the inspiration for Foundry Sans comes from Stempel Garamond. Foundry Sans was the second typeface to be released for The Foundry typeface library in 1990.

The origins of the font Versailles go back to the 19th century in France when, with the introduction of lithography, alphabets could contain freer forms. The basic forms are Modern Face with triangular serifs. The direct influence for Versailles was the writing on the back of the memorial to Charles Garnier, the architect of the Paris Opera. Versailles is a classic font for advertisements, perfect for shorter texts and titles/headlines and it makes an impression of elegance and strength.

Pontiac Inline is a layered Art Deco font designed by Fanny Coulez and Julien Saurin in Paris. This finely balanced inline font can be enhanced to improve your designs and bring an unusual and modern feeling. You could change the inside color, then add a 3D or shadow effect. The hand lettered pre-Deco style title and songwriters' credits on the cover of the sheet music for 1929s "The Love Parade" were the models for Deco Days JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

This stylish lightface was designed by Bernd Nadall for Barnhart Bros. & Spindler as a caps-only font in 1895. The lowercase was added at Solotype a hundred years later, resulting in a font quite at home in modern advertising.

Busted is the very strange and out-of-character outburst of Bill Troop, a guy who was classically trained in everything, from classical piano and literature to classical photography and type design. As far as we could tell, Bill Troop is the kind of guy whose appearance and voice instantly trigger thoughts of black and white photos, fedoras, and pre-industrial age Europe. A few years ago, he even moved from the United States to England, where it took him less than a week to feel at home and start sounding like a Norwich native. Then something happened and the poor dude just snapped. Busted is the controversial result of the blood rushing to his head. If you know what exactly happened to him, please let us know. Concern, consideration and human interest story aside, Busted is a fascinating thing. It is a set of four interchangeable thick outline fonts where the same letter forms turn from wild to wilder to broken to somewhat clean. Mix them up in a setting and you have words that snarl with a sneer. Life's too short. Take it all with a grain of salt. Scream whenever you feel like it. Busted Pro is a single font combining all four character sets, and rigged with an OpenType pseudo-randomizer in the contextual alternates feature, which you can disable or enable anywhere in your setting for maximum visual shock just the way you like it. Works just as well in PAL or SECAM. Don't be fooled by imitations, and don't get caught with your drawers down.

A sturdy workhorse with the grace of a gazelle, the FF Pastoral typeface family marries pure craftsmanship with rapturous excesses of form. With his fifteenth release under the FontFont brand, prolific French designer Xavier Dupré has filled a typographic toolbox with plentiful options ranging from a tender, feathery Thin to a robust, healthy Black. At a glance, FF Pastoral appears deceptively simple, particularly in the middle weights. That surface serenity is intentional and allows for easy reading and quick comprehension of short blocks of copy. Upon closer inspection, FF Pastoral is complex and nuanced, carrying a balanced tension in its forms. This plays particularly well in magazine spreads and corporate logos, where uniqueness is a virtue. In creating his latest design, Dupré drew inspiration from a tasteful mix of references, combining diverse elements with a deft hand. While its letter shapes were informed by humanist-geometric hybrid Gill Sans, FF Pastoral’s proportions have been optimized for contemporary typography. Slightly condensed but generously spaced, FF Pastoral features a tall x-height, open counters, and subtle, sprightly italics slanted at just 5°. Proportional oldstyle figures are the default in the family, with tabular and lining numbers and fractions accessible through OpenType features. Elegant details evocative of calligraphy judiciously pepper the FF Pastoral glyph set. The ‘e’ bears an oblique crossbar, while the right leg of the ‘K’ and the ‘R’ are insouciantly curved in both the upright and italic variants. Further flourishes appear throughout the italics, notably in the ‘T’ and the ‘Z’, the gloriously looped tail of the ‘G’, and an extraordinary ampersand. Sharp-eyed fans of Dupré’s work may feel like they’re in familiar territory, and they would be right. An early version of FF Pastoral sprang to life in 2017 as Malis, a family in four weights on the heavier side of the spectrum. Over time, Dupré refined his original design, expanding it with four lighter styles and including true italics for all. The lightest weights are ethereal, with exquisitely delicate strokes drawing the eye in and across a line of type. The most substantial styles are tremendous in their power, allowing text to make a deep impression in print or on screen. Fully fleshed out, FF Pastoral works sublimely in a vast array of text and display settings. Dupré sees his latest FontFont offering as a ‘cultural’ typeface, perfect for the pages of an oversized coffee-table book or business communications where warmth and informality will win the day. Born in Aubenas, France (1977), Xavier Dupré is a gifted user of type as well as an award-winning type designer and lettering artist. After training in graphic design in Paris, Dupré studied calligraphy and typography at the Scriptorium de Toulouse. Since releasing FF Parango in 2001, Dupré has published such FontFont classics as the FF Absara and FF Sanuk superfamilies, FF Megano, FF Tartine, and FF Yoga. A designer of Khmer fonts as well as Latin typefaces, Dupré splits his time between Europe and Asia.

A neat face with pronounced spur serifs which several foundries have already digitized. We like ours better though, because we have drawn a lowercase which was lacking in the original. Barnhart Bros. & Spindler of Chicago introduced this type in 1888.

Barnhart Bros. and Spindler called this Faust Text when they introduced it in 1898. A quarter of a century later, they brought back a number of obsolete faces and renamed them. This one became Missal Text in their 1923 catalog.

Our notes say this was originated at the Barnhart Bros. & Spindler foundry in Chicago, and named Cable. Perhaps so, but we didn't find it in any of our BB&S catalogs. We made a few changes to improve the color.

The opening title card for 1931's pre-code movie drama "Other Men's Women" (with Mary Astor, Regis Toomey, James Cagney and Joan Blondell amongst the cast members) is the basis for the Art Deco type face Date Night JNL.

Like many of the Victorian decorative fonts, this one had caps only when Barnhart Bros. and Spindler brought it out. In 1990, we decided to draw a lowercase for it, making it more versatile. A good font for period typography.

This font family is an arranged and extended version of PAG Revolucion released from Prop-A-Ganda type foundry in 2008. The original font is inspired by retro propaganda posters and wallpainting in Cuba from the 60s to 80s. And the original PAG Revolucion is the most popular font from Prop-A-Ganda. Although the early 1900s through the 1920s seemed to be the "Golden Age" of ridiculously long novelty song titles, it appears that even the decade of the 1940s had its fair share as well. Song Merchant JNL was modeled from the hand lettered [but exhausting] title of the sheet music for "Princess Poo-Poo-Ly Has Plenty Pa-Pa-Ya (and she Loves to Give it Away)". Despite the obvious double-entendre inferences of the title, the square block letters with rounded corners make for a useful headline font (even if the source material it was drawn from is quite forgettable). Really, there is nothing stupid about this font. In some strange and weird way, I just thought that the name sounded like something eye-catching - in the same way that the font is eye-catching! It may look like your average comic font, but it's not! I carefully put a lot of funk, twist, comic and a spoonful of pizzadude into each and every letter. The result is a bouncy crazy looking comic font. Oh, I almost forgot - I topped the letters with a spoonful of grafitti mixed with the sounds of a party...that's the recipe for this lovely multilingual font! :)

Every morning, after the kids have gone to school, I vacuum the floor and remove about half a kilo of breadcrumbs… No, not really have a kilo, but any given bird could probably survive on the leftovers. When it was time to name this font, Breadcrumbs was all I could think of! Breadcrumbs and children seem to go together well, as they are featured in Hansel & Gretel and Hop-o'-My-Thumb. Breadcrumbs font is a happy, sloppy fairytale font, which you can use for your book covers, your party posters and maybe crumbly bread packaging. But that is entirely up to you.

Based on lettering with a sharp pen, Gangfield features a rather solid character and a measured rhythm. This is named after my nephew who has an optimistic and disciplined style. An indomitable woman who traveled a lot, Emily Austin (Bryan) Perry was one of the children of Moses Austin, of Austinville, Virginia. Like her famous brother, Stephen F. Austin, she settled in Texas as one of that region's earliest colonists. While traveling about seeking treatment for a sickly daughter, she wrote many letters home -- letters that show a distinctively compact, legible hand. The challenge for me in designing the face: resisting the temptation to read and re-read her bossy directives and urgent appeals, all packed tightly together on a page.
