Originally I called this font YearInYearOutYoureInUrine, but I was told that that name was too long and maybe not in good taste. I settled for WaterCloset when it was first released, but then renamed it with a more appropriate title. It is caps only but the letters on the lower-case keys differ from those on the upper-case keys. It comes with a large assortment of accented letters to support most European languages. Although you certainly would not want to use it for formal invitations, when bad taste is called for, it might be ideal.

This is not an historically accurate font but rather one intended capture the spirit of ancient Roman manual type. It was inspired by various patterns used in documents and books created by Latin scribes between the second and fourth centuries. They used either calamus and ink on papyrus, or a pointed metal stick on wax tablets. We have created the font for contemporary use; distinguishing between U and V, I and J, which had no meaning for ancient Latin scribes, and adding thorn, Oslash, Lslash, W, Y and common accented characters that did not exist at the time. A lot of titlings and contextual alternates complete the set. Available only in TTF and OTF format.

A very expanded sans serif font in capital letters inspired by the inscription on a bank note Old bank notes tend to have a very typical typography. Usually they carry decorative and elaborately designed markings. For one thing, they must be practically impossible to forge and for another, they should make a respectable and legitimate impression. And in the days of copper and steel engravings, that meant nothing less than creating ornate, shaded or otherwise complicated scripts. Designing the appropriate script was literally in the hands of the engraver. That’s why I noticed this bank note from 1948. It is the first 20 mark bill in the then newly created currency ”Deutsche Mark.“ All other bank notes of the 1948 series show daintier forms of typography with an obvious tendency toward modern face. The 1949 series which followed shortly thereafter reveals the more complicated script as well. For whatever reason, only this 20 mark bill displays this extremely expanded sans serif variation of the otherwise Roman form applied. This peculiarity led me in the year 2010 to create a complete font from the single word ”Banknote.“ Back to those days in the 40’s, the initial edition of DM bank notes was carried out by a special US-American printer who was under pressure of completing on time and whose engravers not only engraved but also designed. So that’s why the bank notes resemble dollars and don’t even look like European currency. That also explains some of the uniquely designed characters when looked at in detail. Especially the almost serif type form on the letters C, G, S and Z, but also L and T owe their look to the ”American touch.“ The ingoFont Banknote 1948 comprises all characters of the Latin typeface according to ISO 8859 for all European languages including Turkish and Baltic languages. In order to maintain the character of the original, the ”creation“ of lower case letters was waived. This factor doesn’t contribute to legibility, but this kind of type is not intended for long texts anyway; rather, it unfolds its entire attraction when used as a display font, for example on posters. Banknote 1948 is also very suitable for distortion and other alien techniques, without too much harm being done to the characteristic forms. With Banknote 1948 ingoFonts discloses a font like scripts which were used in advertising of the 1940’s and 50’s and were popular around the world. But even today the use of this kind of font can be expedient, especially considering how Banknote 1948, for its time of origin, impresses with amazingly modern detail.

Blandford Press strikes again, with a delightful, delicious, de-lovely offering from their 1946 tome, Lettering for the Commercial Artist. The editor, A. H. Hunter, called this one simply "The Elegant Alphabet" and cautioned that it, "being neither quick nor easy, needs to be used with discrimination." Or not...

Rasteroids is a typographic flashback to computing of the mid 1980s, when 9-pin dot-matrix printers were the state of the art, and most home computer displays were TVs hooked up to RF modulators. Rasteroids not only captures the dot-matrix printer look, but recreates the rasterized appearance of text on those lower-resolution monitors. Unlike that dot matrix type of yore, Rasteroids does have some variation in character width, and is legible in small blocks of copy. Still, it is best used sparingly, or as a special effect.

This script font was inspired by a lot of autographs, notes and drafts, written by President Abraham Lincoln, mainly the Gettysburg address, first draft and copies, but also the emancipation proclamation. It is an attempt to offer a typical manual script from this American period, not to propose the exact writing from A. Lincoln himself. This font is a little fat and monotone, maybe Abraham Lincoln used a smooth or rounded pen, but some letters I have consulted were written obviously with a sharp one, so, in the future, I will certainly produce a slim version of this font. It is used as variously as web-site titles, posters and fliers design or greeting cards, all various sorts of presentations, menus, certificates, letters. This font supports enlargement as well as small size, though the original size was about 18 to 24 pts. When printed, it remain perfectly legible from 10 to 12 pts.

Like the study of Kremlinology, this font is an interpretation of Soviet culture for Western audiences. Based on a vintage Russian poster but not in the original Cyrillic, it is an attempt to capture the feel of the era if not the actual characters.

The Nov. 13, 1915 and Nov. 27, 1915 issues of Moving Picture World carried ads for Jesse L. Lasky Productions in which the titles of the upcoming films were hand lettered in an elegant Art Nouveau spurred serif style. Baby Fat, designed by Milton Glaser in 1964, saw a lot of action during the psychedelic poster phase. This little dumpling is based on that workhorse, and takes its name from a phrase that also got around a lot in the 60s. Kianda typeface was created as a non-classic, sport logo typeface. Now it has two fonts with multilingual uppercase, numerals and punctuation. Almost every letter have 3-4 alternates, which allows you to feature stylish text for your logo. Also this typeface works good with short slogans, packaging and more.

The slab serif Waterloo Bold was designed by Alan Meeks. He chose unique and individual forms to give this alphabet its unmistakable character. The cross strokes of the capitals are not in the optical center, the serifs have light furrows, and the figures have a slight slant tot he right, giving this font a dynamic, flowing look. Waterloo Bold is reminiscent of cigars, whiskey and the 1930s and should be used only in headlines in large point sizes.

KnockType is based on the concept of braille notation in Japanese. It does not support braille notation in other languages. KnockType is not necessarily aimed at facilitating “braille transcription”. It is designed so that someone who understands the grammar of “braille transcription” can instantly transliterate into braille text that was previously transcribed to kana characters, etc. In addition, it allows ink characters to be converted to braille using OpenType features. It is recommended for use in applications that are compatible with OpenType features. If they are not compatible, KnockType is “simply a kana font”. To be a little more specific, it is assumed that KnockType will be used in Adobe’s InDesign and Illustrator applications. If you don't have them, you will not get satisfactory results. Four types of font are available. There are “hasBox&Line”, “hasnotBox&Line”, and the reversed font of each. When displayed on a convex surface, the assumption is that they will be used mainly for printing applications. When displayed on a concave surface, the assumption is that they will be used mainly for writing on braille boards, etc. By printing, you can get a rough idea of the dot positions. This font has the Lycian characters both in their unicode positions, and where you can find them on the keyboard. The glyphs in this font were based on those on a Kerei monument in Lycia. I am not an archaeologist, so your feedback would be most welcome.

Gold is all new for 2021, the complete family has been rebuilt using the multiple masters technique. In this new version we've removed any alternatives that could not be shared across all weights in the family and we've trimmed a few others that just were not practical in keeping a consistent look to the whole font. All the alternates now have matching accented glyphs across all weights. Case sensitive forms have also been added to all weights. With 14 weights the difference between weights are closer together which may give you the effect of a variable font where variable fonts are not supported. For technical reasons the original Gold family has now been split into two families with Gold having ten weights and the four heavier weights under the Gold Magnum family. The Gold and Gold Magnum font families support accented characters for western, central and eastern European countries. Gold comes with OpenType features to access the alternate glyphs however you will need an application such as Adobe Creative Suite to take advantage of alternate glyphs.
