»XPress-Rounded« is my new addition to »XPress«, my Sans-Serif that impresses – especially in small sizes – with its outstanding readability. »XPress-Rounded« looks very different, almost like a completely new font. But the rounded version has the same seven precisely calibrated weights from »Thin« to »Heavy« and its corresponding italics make this font-family universally usable. The »XPress« fonts got their bearings from the fabulous American »Gothic« fonts of the twenties of last century. Modern, present day elements, high lowercase letters and infinitesimal elegant slight curves in start- and end strokes make the font family not only great for body copy, but also very useful in advertising. A style of die-cut cardboard letters and numbers used for signs, displays and show cards was the basis for Haute Couture JNL, an Art-Deco flavored typeface from Jeff Levine. A direct cousin to Signboard JNL, this font shares some similar characteristics in letterforms. Both styles of die-cut lettering were manufactured by a number of companies, and were most popular from the 1940s through the mid-1960s.

A Tarte Tatin is a French upside down apple pie. The story goes that one of the Tatin sisters (who ran Hôtel Tatin in Lamotte-Beuvron 169 km south of Paris), was baking a regular apple pie, but put the apples first and, realising her mistake, tried to rescue the dish by adding the pastry and sticking it in the oven. Tarte Tatin is a really nice all caps font. It was made with a Japanese brush pen on rough paper. Tarte Tatin comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case letters.
