From time to time at Tipo Pèpel we like to play like children and get our hands dirty with whatever implement that can be used to mark or draw on the walls, even if the grown-ups don’t like it. And this is more or less what happened with “Trepa” (catalan for “stencil”), a typeface with a fresh and uninhibited appearance, inspired by commercial signs and the 1950’s French art movement “Graphie Latine”. Far removed from the straight lines of vector art, “Trepa” has the necessary roughness to make this class of font stand out and what’s more it has an extensive range of latin characters covering more than 200 languages, and a pair of complementary texture fonts which further multiply its creative possibilities. If you want to protest with elegance, “Trepa” is your best choice.

In his 1538 book on measurement, Albrecht Dürer gave clear descriptions and drawings about the proportions of the letters in both Roman and 'fraktur' alphabets (from Latin 'fractura', meaning that it's broken up with lots of different angles rather than smooth curves). Here is the fraktur alphabet as a font completed for use today, with a few characters modernised and some gaps filled. Of course there are countless examples of fraktur fonts already circulating, and indeed one foundry even has another version of this particular one; but we have different approaches to some of the questions raised, we have aimed at a more even tracking (horizontal spacing), and the 260 glyphs in our version include accents and other diacritics, and the modern symbols which Dürer would surely have embraced if he had had access to the internet.

At first glance, the lettering style of Technopen JNL seems to emulate the computer-age fonts of the 1980s. In actuality, this font is derived from an alphabet sample found in an instructional booklet for the Esterbrook Drawlet Pens. The Drawlet line was Esterbrook's answer to the iconic Speedball pen points sold through their chief competitor, the Hunt Pen Manufacturing Company. So, what seems to be late 20th Century typography is actually from vintage source material. In fact, the entire contents of the instructional booklet were copyright 1929! A few minor changes were made to the original A-Z alphabet and additional characters were added. The name Technopen is a shortening of the term 'technical pen', which is both a nod to the techno age of the 80s and the technical instruments of the past utilized for drawing and lettering.

Chalky Spritely and full of personality, FS Sammy is a hand-drawn font with a chalky texture, available in one weight only. Quat is a sans serif type family designed by Ani Dimitrova. The family comes in 22 weights, ranging from Hairline to Black with extra drawn italics and small caps versions, and each style contains more than 700 glyphs. The Regular and Medium weights are perfect for body text while the extra drawn Italic gives an interesting texture to the text. The lightest weights work well in subtle headlines while the heaviest ones are perfect for posters, short texts, web, branding and screen design. Imperija Roman is a display typeface inspired by stone engraved lettering. Supporting west, central and east European languages it contains over one-hundred discretionary ligatures and a stylistic set for old style diacritics. The original letters were drawn from a memorial engraving in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Further development and several iterations later, Imperija Roman has a flowing organic feel while staying true to the rigid constraints of stone-cut letters. The alternative diacritics in stylistic set one were included to give the user more options for a historical feel to the lettering. The discretionary ligatures also offer a huge range of variation and were drawn based off of historical Roman sources and common frequency digraphs in major European languages.

The Rocaie fonts are base on antique Rococo letters from an gilding workshop. I was very lucky to acquire this set of metal letters in early 2018. Each of the letters has ornaments engraved by hand into its cast brass shapes. When drawing the digital outlines, I tried to preserve the handmade look of the original leaf engravings. Each of the letters uses a slightly different ornament pattern: no pattern is repeated identically. I expanded the very limited character set of the original, adding all the missing characters that today’s commercial fonts are expected to contain. I made additional font styles to easily add colour layers, outlines, and 3D shadows to the typeface. It’s up to you to decide how to “build” your colour font! You can combine the predefined font styles Regular, Pearl, Solid, Outline, and Magnum with each other, or with the Fill font styles. But you don't need to use all font styles to compose something nice! Have as much fun as I did with this Baroque beauty and enjoy the vintage.

OMG! I never thought I'd finish this font! Actually, the idea came to me in the late 1990-ies, but the sketches lied at the bottom of the "fonts I will complete one day In the future" pile ... also called "fonts I most likely won't complete...EVER" pile! :) Anyway, I started up with letters for both upper and lowercase, no numbers or punctuation. I figured if people ever purchased this font, all they would need were upper- or lowercase letters. But the rest of the glyphs seemed to miss out, so I made the numbers and some punctuation. But I still found the font incomplete...therefore I redid all the punctuation (from "standard" punctuation to "picturish" punctuation) and added two additional sets of letters. Meaning that there is 4 different versions of letters to choose from: 2 different lowercase, and 2 different lowercase. I had a lot of fun drawing this font, and some fun doing the detective work finding out how the MANY lettershapes should look! I hop you too have fun using this font! :)

Street Tag vol 2 is the second version of Street Tag fonts. Inspired from realistic caligraphy tagging style in many big cities. This style is more bold and readable, perfect for your “street art” designs style. I combined the real graffiti experiences into computer fonts, I think it will be different with other fonts if you can feel it, cause I draw graffiti, tagging and throw ups since I was high school. The real tagging style is never be tidy, but don’t worry, I already adjust the kerning and spacing in the best possible way.
