The Americanised form of Tiki Culture maintains a dedicated following today, particularly among those interested in 1950s graphic and interior design, history and the escapist lounge aesthetic it inspires. Many times, when a new creative process is starting, it is triggered by an everyday action or item. In this case, the looks of a lady’s watch inspired Michael Herold to create his new typeface LUX. The sight of the chronograph sparked associations of the 1950s in Mr. Herold: While this decade was predominantly dominated by brush and feather scripts, there was also a bloom of strict and modern architecture. This special mix of strength and retro style is exactly what Michael Herold is trying to capture in his LUX. The result is a typeface which is perfectly suitable for use on book covers, posters and claims – thanks to its striking impression. The name LUX, Latin for light, is inspired by the high bright-dark contrast within the individual characters. Café de Paris is, clearly, inspired by all things French, especially the quirky typefaces that adorn French shopfronts from cafes to charcuteries and bistros to boulangeries. My intention was a fresh, crisp, modern take on a classic theme, with just a soupcon of Art Nouveau, which is characteristic of so much of French typography (See also Studio K’s Paris Metro font) C'est chic - n'est-ce pas?

Zafran is an elegant industrial display typeface, full of curves and sharp angles, the typeface has an oblique feeling and unified spaces that create neat alignments.

Happily-lettered handwriting full of optimism. This handwriting was drawn with a chunky round marker and is bold enough for drawing attention yet still completely legible.

Mol is a slightly condensed feminine serif font recommended for use as a display typeface. It features hairline serifs, strong vertical stress and heavy ball terminals.

Let it be known that this font is named for Excalibur, King Arthur's Magic Sword. The font is derived from a note that Arthur hastily penned to his Queen, Guinevere, during a lull in one of his many battles against the Saxons. Arthur's armour was so hefty that he could not easily seat himself, and so to pen his letter to Guinevere he plunged his legendary sword Excalibur into the marshy soil on which he had been fighting and thereby steadied his writing hand with the hasp of his magical sword. This ancient and battle-weary font is based on the writing from a fragment of that original document. It has been heralded by modern scholars as "grunge" writing of great antiquity. The font Excalibur SCF contains a full character set and it is professionally letterspaced and kerned. Space Rocks! A Retro Sci-Fi Font Inspired by 1950s Television Serials “Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! The next episode of Space Rocks is on tonight! What’s it about? Well, it’s all to do with this family of astronauts who crash land on Mars and how they survive all sorts of alien creatures and killer storms! The science is really real too! Who needs school!!!” And so goes the story of one young fan whose imagination is captured by the latest offering in a golden-age of TV science-fiction. A brand of 1950s programming that offered a light-hearted and optimistic view of the future full of exploration, discovery and hazardous adventure! Sometimes even a cautionary tale to live on in your nightmares! With Space Rocks I want to capture this vibe with an all-caps design inspired the opening titles of these shows, fully hand-drawn with a range of discretionary ligatures that add a comic (not atomic!) touch. The package includes Regular and Outlined (all hand-drawn) versions with a complete set of alternatives to help maintain the analogue look. This font also includes unique uppercase and lowercase characters, along with numerals, punctuation, language support, underlines and symbols. Grava is Neil Summerour’s injection of warmth within the geometric sans font category. Historically, geometric sans families have been based on primal shapes — triangle, circle, square — and the more closely they held to those rigid rules, the more internal inconsistencies they showed. Angles won’t match up correctly, letters will lean, overshoots complicate clean typesetting, and idealized circles become grotesque and unwieldy in some weights. Because of issues like these, geometric sans fonts have a reputation of being cold, austere, even a bit “off”. Grava was made to hold a T-square and triangle in one hand while giving a welcoming handshake with the other. The Grava font family comes in two styles (a normal and a Display), each with 20 weights (Thin to Ultra) and paired with italics. Its design allowed the three scripts of Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek to emerge seamlessly, ensuring Grava will find its home in multilingual publications. Even better, each character in the three scripts is spaced with every other character for a beautifully matched fit, and it’s a buy-one-get-all-three deal since they are all packaged together. The normal style’s large x-height won’t let you down in paragraphs, headings, and any call-out text. And have you seen the angles on those numerals? Grava Display is purposefully quirky and sharp, and made for poster sizes, book and album covers, and those websites with a well-defined character — somewhere between playfully self-aware and overtly vintage. Flat edges are abandoned to make way for sharp points and conspicuousness, for geometrical attitude and respectful expressiveness. Corporate reports use Grava Display to take on a professional and current look. The optional ligatures (N–T, L–L, G–A, C–O, almost anywhere an ‘A’ is placed, and more) in both the normal and Display styles invoke a midcentury modernist and high art feel. Now that introductions are done, you can let go of Grava’s hand and put it to work for you.

Carumba is the work of California designer Jill Bell and like the name suggests, it exudes liveliness and festivity. Carumba is perfect for anything which says FUN!

The best way to describe it is a drunken Roman font. Very imperfect, narrow and full of little curls and quirks, Lush is distinct and easily adaptable.

I like ‘magical’ fonts and it’s been a while since I created one, so here is Fairy Godmother. Hand made, cute and curly and full of magic!

Starlive Script is a beautiful and interesting calligraphy handwriting font. You can see from scratches that give a realistic and modern style. This font looks sweet and is full of the best characters. You can use this font in your design product range like invitation, mockup, embossed, branding card and others. Starlive Script includes a full set of large and attractive international letters, numbers, punctuation and ligatures. All lowercase letters include the beginning and end of the swashes. Also, Starlive includes multilingual symbols. The script is encoded with PUA Unicode, which allows full access to all additional characters without special design software. Night Train is a new font built from the ground up; while Night Train may resemble an old classic wood type there are a few lines that make this font a little more modern setting it apart from other wood type revivals. If you're a railroad enthusiast you're sure to enjoy the steam locomotive graphic located on the less than and greater than keys on all versions of this font, due to the fine detail of this train illustration the best printing results will be at 600dpi or higher on a laser printer. An alternate K and R are within the Night Train fonts, for Win Type1 these alternates are on the left and right bracket keys, for Truetype and OpenType you may access the alternates by using the Character Map in Windows or Adobe Illustrator, for OpenType you may also find them on the stylistic alternates page of the glyph map in Illustrator. There's something new with Night Train that the sign making people will love, for the first time FontMesa is pleased to offer a block shadowed version in four directions. One fill font is all that is needed for all four open faced fonts, you'll need an application that works in layers in order to use the fill font with the open faced fonts, simply place the fill font in its own layer then move it behind one of the open faced fonts of Night Train. The Night Train name has been on my list to use as a font name for a few years, a friend from years ago used to sail his boat in the Mackinac race from Chicago to Mackinac Island, the name of that boat was the Night Train. Watching the 2010 Olympic four man U.S. bobsled team win gold with their sled also called Night Train has inspired me to complete this font.

Cattleprod is an offbeat slab serif font full of swagger. It was created without any reference, but just the idea of a playful somewhat stumbling stance in mind.
