Our first font of Grecian was so old that it had been cast in a hand mold. Extremely popular face in the nineteenth century, made by many foundries and wood type makers in various widths. Lowercase was added by some foundries in later years.

Based on lettering from Eric Gill for the British bookseller WH Smith, Colins Banks made the Gill Facia family for Monotype in 1996. This lettering from Eric Gill was one of the first alphabets that was used for corporate branding. Gill Facia is an elegant signage face for advertisements and for displays.

Based on Times New Roman of Monotype, 1932, by Stanley Morison and Victor Lardent, and other versions of Times. It has many characteristics of an Old Style serif faces; it was designed for better legibility in combination with good economy. Widely used in books and magazines, reports and office documents, and also for display and advertising.

Whitenights is a contemporary text family, which was developed by the prolific Swedish typographer Lars Bergquist in 2002. Containing five weights (11 different fonts total), this family contains every tool you need to set splendid text. The base font of the family is Whitenights Regular, a reliable face designed in the old style manner. It ships in OpenType format, with old style figures. Whitenights Ligatures Regular is a supplementary font, which contains many extra ligatures (e.g., ffb, ffk, tt, and fj) whose use will improve the color" of a page of text set in Whitenights Regular. Whitenights Regular may be accented by combination with Whitenights Small Caps, Whitenights Italic, Whitenights Bold, and/or Whitenights Bold Italic. TT Tunnels useful links: Specimen | Graphic presentation | Customization options TT Tunnels is a modular font family with narrow proportions and a large number of pronounced visual compensators. In the basic version of the typeface, all glyphs have simple chopped shapes, created according to the usual geometric principles. In the alternative version of TT Tunnels, which becomes available when you turn on OpenType feature stylistic alternates or stylistic set 1, the typeface comes to life and turns into a stylized ductal gothic grotesque, in which the design of glyph forms is created based on the pen movements. Despite the fact that TT Tunnels was created as a display typeface for use in short inscriptions and titles, it works very interestingly in the body text, adding a small touch of archaics. This is especially evident in the Bold and Black faces, when the rhythm and thickness of the strokes create a dense set, covering the paper with a solid, dense pattern. The density and style of such a set conceptually refers us to the old Gothic texture and the Old Slavonic script. In addition to a larger number of alternates for lowercase letters, the typeface features an alternate for number 2, an alternate slashed zero, many ligatures, and other useful OpenType features (ordn, frac, sinf, sups, numr, dnom, case, tnum, onum, pnum, liga, salt, ss01, zero). Blastered was originally inspired by an old horror movie poster - but I find it more laid back and less horrifying…but feel free to use Blastered for your next horror project and use the more than 300 interlocking ligatures! Wow!

A rather narrow and compact design, Monotype Clearface combines both old style and antique characteristics. The lowercase letters are tall, the ascenders and descenders quite short. The intention was to produce a typeface that was easy to read in small sizes, hence the name. Monotype Clearface Bold was first cut for mechanical composition in 1922, and was based on the Clearface Gothic design created by Morris Fuller Benton for ATF in 1910. Although designed as a text face, Monotype Clearface is now more commonly used in advertising and display work.

Versals is based on Lombardic style letters which are sufficiently broad to allow for decorated piercing and flourishes. They may also form the basis of illuminated capitals. The face is presented as capitals with reduced copies in the lower case locations. It is a full latin set with, uniquely, a set of roman numerals.

A very rare metal face made a brief appearance in Lanston Specimen books and has all but vanished from use. In fact no examples of the font in use seem to exist. It shares some of the hand-rendered casual feel of Nicholas Cochin, but much heavier and well suited for bold headlines and package design.

Revival 565 is the Bitstream version of type Berling. The face was created by Karl-Erik Forsberg for the Swedish Berling foundry in 1951, with other weights added in 1958. The design is an old style roman, particularly useful for books, journals, and other text applications. Despite the fact that it has higher contrast than most old style typefaces, Berling has the classic features of old style romans with its small x-height, and ascenders that exceed the height of the capital letters. Berling is good for text settings as well as display work. Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType by Manvel Shmavonyan in 2008.

16th and 17th century formal handwriting forms the basis for Tinderbox, an antique script. Preserving the rough impression of a quill pen on parchment, Tinderbox evokes old manuscripts, ecclesiastical texts, gothic inscriptions, faded tattoos and horror literature; spooky calligraphy for the digital age.

Benton Modern was first prepared as a text face by Font Bureau for the Boston Globe and the Detroit Free Press. Design and proportions were taken from Morris Fuller Benton’s turn-of-the-century Century Expanded, drawn for ATF, faithfully reviving this epoch-making magazine and news text roman. The italic was based on Century Schoolbook. These display cuttings were prepared by Dyana Weissman and Richard Lipton; FB 2008

This sometimes-top-heavy, sometime-bottom-heavy, sometimes-centered typecase is based on an old Photolettering face designed by the irrepressible Dave West, originally called "Nickelodeon". That name was already taken, so I chose another with a nod to the 1953 film starring Leslie Caron. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

Arcadian was first produced in wood type around 1870 by William H. Page & Company. It is a semi-ornamented face based on a French Clarendon, with dots added to the median and the tops and bottoms of the letters. It has a distinctly “Old West” feel, and was likely used to add a little pizzazz to advertising and broadsides of the time.

Avenue is an eleven font family with five synthesist serif faces, five humanist sans serif faces, and one old style face. It is designed as an extrememly versatile body copy set. There are many special dingbats for bullets, and so on. It has oldstyle numbers and the small caps versions have lining numbers and small caps numbers.

Equip Slab, a new hardline, serif dominated face designed on the same geometric base as the rest of the Equip family. With its clarity it appears strong, imperative and straight forward. The Equip Slab family comprised 16 styles and is well suited for ambitious typography. It comes in OpenType format with extended language support. All weights contain ligatures, proportional lining figures, tabular lining figures, proportional old style figures, lining old style figures, matching currency symbols, fraction- and scientific numerals and matching arrows.

Roberta goes back to the old poster fonts of the 1930s. It is an excellent alternative and combination to fonts like Arnold Böcklin or Hobo. Ralph M. Unger redrew and digitized this font in 2003. His work is based on artwork taken from old font catalogs.

Spillsbury was inspired by some examples of 1920s signwriting (principally seen on the side of some vintage vans-good thing they were in a photograph and not on the move!). Spillsbury draws inspiration from these sources to provide a unique combination of legibility and flair, which echoes the charm of advertising and publicity material from the halcyon days of the 1920s. A basic range of four display faces os offered - Regular, Plain (not all that plain really!), Shaded and Shadowed. In a new departure for Greater Albion, three pairs of 'Duo' faces are also offered. These are designed to be used in pairs-and only sold on that basis for little more than the cost of a single face-to provide for two-coloured typographic design, enabling the recreation of those evokative two coloured blocked lettering styles that were used to such good effect in the past. Originally designed for American Type Founders, Goudy drew inspiration from the classical old style faces for Goudy Old Style. Round characters have a strong diagonal stress, ascenders are fairly long but descenders are very short. Goudy bold was introduced in 1920; this was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. This typeface has been particularly popular in America where it is extensively used in advertising, book jackets, for labels and packaging.
