Giambattista Bodoni created this modern typeface in 1790 which served as the structural model for Sol Hess’s faithful rendition. Hess made necessary adjustments for mechanical typesetting on Lanston’s Monotype composition system. Remastered in 2006 by Paul Hunt.

Goth icon and Saturday Night Live voice-over talent, Nicole Blackman grew up surrounded by design; her dad and her sister are architects, her mom is a retired fashion designer and her grandfather invented clip art. “No lie, Volk Clip Art in NJ,” she says. “Herb Lubalin designed his logo!” Sharing her grandfather’s fondness for fonts, Ms. Blackman created this alphabet. Her creativity sparked this lanky lettering’s theatrical nature in all caps and its supple beauty in upper and lower cases. Final fontification and adjustments were done by Chank Diesel. Treves Sans is a scratchy, messy, hand written display font. It has the look of charcoal or a brass rubbing, reversed in lighter tones it looks like chalk. It reminds me of Edward Gorey's or Eddie Campbell's styles of sketching. It has about 200 glyphs including all those extra pesky foreign features.

Originally released in 1995 as a three font family, Paradigm forcefully addressed the emaciating effect that digitization was then exerting upon traditional serifed typography. Investigating the new media of a much previous era, Nick Shinn deconstructed the first roman type, designed by Sweynheym and Pannartz in 1467, and gleaned, from its minuscules, the low contrast and discreet serif treatment (portrayed by a novel convex effect), which he subsequently applied to both capitals and lower case of a classically proportioned Venetian invention. Now in 2008, the glyphs, metrics and hinting of the 1995 fonts have been refined, Extra Bold and Light weights added, a full range of OpenType features instituted, and the number of characters per style increased almost threefold. It is a major upgrade to a unique typeface.

Dimensions is redesigned font family based on Blackout font released as free font in 2005. The original blackout has been used especially for company or brand logo of fashion and music label in the world. In 2011, Blackout had evolved into this Dimensions font family of seven weights with roman and italics. They are one of the most condensed, black and skinny font in the world. The font was developed as a part of a corporate identity project for a pillow shop on the base of existing logo. It’s an attempt to reflect the space of a dream -- virtual reality where objects don’t have solid shapes, but present just hardly noticed disappearing contours. This idea determines the design of letters that resemble illustrations rather then alphabetical symbols and are based on ultra thin stems. The font was designed by Elena Kolesnikova and released by ParaType in 2009.

STRANO Like the name indicates it’s a strange typeface. Just capitals (including punctuation marks and numbers), composed from early sketches for a corporate identity in 2005 by André Toet. The complete font was restyled and translated to a Monospaced version. In mid 2001, P22 was approached by a Daniel Garrison, a Classics scholar at Northwestern University about possibly digitizing a long lost "Garamond" typeface. This font was used by Johannes Herbst (a.k.a. Ioannes Oporinus) in 1543 to publish Andreas Vesalius' "On the Fabric of the Human Body" (De humani corporis fabrica) in Basel. The story of the development of this font takes a few twists and almost becomes forgotten itself over time.Forteen years later it is available to the public.

Vonnes was designed by David Berlow working closely with Neville Brody on corporate redesign for Jim Von Ehre at Macromedia. Core weights are loosely based on Bauer’s Venus, 1907–1910. Berlow expanded the ideas behind the series to 56 fonts, the heart of the redesign. The Macromedia program was hailed as one of the most successful models of modern total design for innovative cutting edge companies; FB 2007

64-SRC is a condensed monospace font inspired by 1960s IBM Selectric type seen on HAL’s telemetric displays in 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is characterized by unique "double-space" alternates for the widest characters such as “w” and “m”. These alternates maximize legibility, improve the rhythm of readability and keep typographic color even. As a result 64-SRC is as well suited for extensive copy as it is display type.

Chank worked with Josh Eshbach, an intern from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, to create Cocaine as the Chank Font of the Month for November 2000. Inspired by Speedball type designs of the ’20s and ’30s, Cocaine has been redrawn and streamlined for use in the digital age. Curvy and round and relishing in its idiosyncrasies, Cocaine recalls vintage French wine posters and antique sheet music covers.

This font family is simplified Arabic which was inspired from the modern Naskh style, where the reverse contrast is low and the counter forms are open. The original design is from the Lisboa Sans typeface (Latin), published on 2005 and after some years, this multi-script family is the compromise and balance between these two different scripts. This typeface contains characters for setting Arabic, Persian and Urdu languages.

Sultan Nahia, designed by Sultan Maktari in 2005, is a modern Kufi and a winner in Linotype’s first Arabic Typeface Design Competition. The design is very geometric and bold. This makes it suitable for large display sizes, especially in the area of advertising. The font includes a matching Latin design and support for Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. It also includes proportional and tabular numerals for the supported languages.

I have no particular love for pigeons, but I read an interesting article about war pigeons being used to send messages to an fro. One pigeon (called William of Orange) even saved more than 2000 soldiers during the Battle of Arnhem. Pigeon Post is a lovely cartoon and kids font. It comes in a sans and a serif style, so there’s really no excuse for not using it!

Designed for ParaType in 2002 by Tagir Safayev. Inspired by the letterforms of Antique No. 8 typeface and other similar fonts of the 19th century (Latin Antique, Wide Latin, Etienne Condensed, Wide Renaissance). A face of so-called Latin type has stout triangular serifs and rather unusual curls on several letters in the lower case. Nevertheless it is eminently suitable for a wide variety of settings in advertising and display typography.

Released in 2006 under the name Flatrock this new 2020 version takes back the original name of Big Cat. Goudy Fancy was originally released in the 1970s and was not previously available in digital form until revived by Josh Korwin in 2004. This OpenType revival features alternate glyphs, additional new glyphs, as well as automatic ligature substitution.
