I was asked by a good friend of mine to design his tattoo lettering. This fellow prefered an easy stencil with no ornament, such as swirls or loops. After some preliminary design I finally accepted the challenge and while completing the whole alphabet, the idea of creating a cool font of it occured to me. Only a few months later this new font family already contained 4 weights, every weight has a companion Italic style, punctuation, numerals and mathematical operators, as well as all accented characters. Bomber TV is a brand-new font and all glyphs have been contemplated very carefully so that all characters match in a well-balanced and streaming way. Balcony is a decorative display typeface inspired by the patterns of metal safety grills. Its highly geometric features may be used to identify it as Art Deco. It is a monospaced type family with all characters confined in a square frame. The main idea of Balcony is to create a grill-like pattern when letterforms are placed together. Zombie Apocalypse is way more versatile as its name would suggest. It might be used as a horror font (red color tones in horror games, movie covers) or in ads for an Offroad Experience Tour (or wherever it comes to dirt, mud and spatters in combination with brown tones). When used with light blue/red/yellow/orange colors, the font can express creativity and freedom (on fashion, inspirational art and advertising) because it is not bound to classic straight-lined fonts. Proper was based on handwritten characters (of my own) that I scanned and then digitally touched up. I kept the digital editing to a minimum so as to preserve the freshness of the original. I did, however, want to convey a sense of propriety and regularity and so my original handwriting was done with quite a lot of control. I kept the size of the lower case characters quite large and this makes the font very readable, even at quite small point sizes. Proper may be used when you need clean, legible text, with a natural look, e.g.: -- magazines aimed at the natural health market -- "natural look" fashion pages -- "natural look" decor pages -- natural food products -- natural beauty products -- children's books -- packaging for children's toys, games etc. -- educational material -- comics Proper contains a full character set with all upper and lower case characters, numerals, symbols, accented characters and it has been carefully spaced and kerned.

The Data Error AOE Family was one of my earliest typefaces, at a time when I had become obsessed with all forms of "digital/techology" typestyles. It's been awhile since the early 2000's, but I've had a hankering for awhile now to revisit this typeface, giving it a more expansive language character set and fill it out with some Opentype features. Inspired by some old printouts of BASIC programs and an Atari 1050 Disk Drive manual with pin printer examples, comes the familiar yet oddly restricted style with this Data Error family. This family comes complete with Regular and Bold versions with their respective Oblique versions. Odd pin printer restrictions inherent in this typeface are: no characters extend below baseline or above ascender line, (except international accents). Duddy is a “friendly” sans-serif typography designed by Eleonora Lana and the Letritas team. The shape of Duddy was created based on sketches that looked after carrying the concept of kindness as far as possible, keeping always in mind the readability and functionality of the font. In the stage of brainstorming, the team started listing things that were friendly to the touch or sight, such as a candy gum, or marshmallow, to become acquainted with the intended goal. Although slowly, as the letters were being created, the objects associated with the forms were not satisfactory, since when forming words a special personality of its own appeared. By reconceptualizing everything, the personality of the letter the team wanted to work with had to be redefined. Thus it went from "caramel" to "teddy bear", from "teddy bear" to "puppy" and from "puppy" to "dolphin". And Duddy is the perfect name for a dolphin. Duddy was a sound idea: friendly, intelligent, social. Once the concept was nailed, the design of graceful and “soft” shapes started. The Thief Bird is an informal grotesque font. Although informal and grotesque may seem to be two quite different ideas, we have to dig into the origin of this typeface in order to understand the matter. The concept behind The Thief Bird was inspired by the adaptation that the vintage sign painters made when they took the grotesque style characters they saw in newspapers and magazines and reproduced them using a brush, aiming to make the prices of the products displayed on wooden boards stand out, as opposed to highlighting large headlines (such as the idea behind fonts like Franklin Gothic). The Thief Bird takes the language from sign painters and turns it into a font --this time around not aiming to set prices but to bring children stories to life. Thus, some legibility features from grotesque fonts were mixed with the brush calligraphy to add grace and zest to a font intended for children. The Thief Bird is a playful display font, with cheerful ligatures and alternate characters. It is really attractive for setting short paragraphs that tell stories for little people. About 7 years ago, I released a beautiful (imho) Art Deco inspired font called Weltschmerz. Weltschmerz was an all-caps font and I always wanted to do a lower case version as well. But as things so often go in life, I never found the time and forgot about it. Some time ago, I ‘rediscovered’ my good old Weltschmerz font and remembered that I wanted to create a lower case version. Without further ado: here is Neuer Weltschmerz (‘New Weltschmerz’). I redid the whole font, better kerning, better spacing, better looks… and with a proper lower case! I did keep the original handwritten look intact - because, well, it IS hand made!

The original design was subsequently extended by Sheffield foundry Stephenson Blake in the 1950s into a widely-used, robust workhorse family. Albiona uses the inwardly curved stroke terminals of the same foundry’s Grotesque series, while rationalising or removing entirely Clarendon’s ball serifs, flicked tails and other eccentricities to make it more functional in contemporary settings. The family consists of five weights plus italics and a stencil, and includes oldstyle and tabular numerals. Its clean readable style suits both text and headline setting.
