The Farfa fonts were designed for institutional use, commissioned by the City of Fara in Sabina, Italy. This project started from the study of the manuscripts found in the Abbey of Farfa, penned in a variant of the lower case of “Carolingian” typical style of that area. The Capital, ligatures and Small Caps, however, are based on the uncial writing that often appears in those codes and manuscripts. Farfa Abbey is a territorial abbey in northern Lazio, central Italy. It is one of the most famous abbeys of Europe. It belongs to the Benedictine Order and is located about 60 km from Rome, in the commune of Fara Sabina The origin of the Abbey is still unknown. Archaeological discoveries seem to prove that the first monastic establishment was built on the ruins of a pagan temple. The Vandals destroyed the first monastery in the fifth century. Only a few documents from the sixth-century prove the early presence of the monastic community. It had the heritage of Charlemagne (S VIII), the Lombard chiefs, and later the Carolingians, succeeded in withdrawing Farfa from obedience to the Bishops of Rieti, and in securing many immunities and privileges for the monastery. Farfa was at this period the most important monastery in Italy both from the point of view of worldly possession and ecclesiastical dignity.

Chalice is a new original Canada Type family inspired by two different engraving eras and locations: Medieval England and 19th century Russia. Originally designed in 1998 as a 3-font family, updated in 2016 by new italics, small caps and many OpenType functions, resulting in a set of highly visible poster typefaces. If a  text is set in a  good Egyptienne, we can observe a  kind of sparkle in the lines. Slab-serifs are cheerful typefaces, possibly due to the fact that they developed simultaneously with Grotesque typefaces. The design principle originating from the first half of the 19th century does not have such firm and long-established roots as for example, the Venetian Roman typefaces, hence it’s much more prone to a  “decline”. We know of Egyptiennes with uneven color, with letters falling backwards (this often happens in the case of “S”), and especially with slightly bizarre modeling of details. In the course of time, however, it was realized that such things could be quite pleasant and tempting. After a  century and a  half, we find that such Egyptiennes could refresh uniform computer typography. The forms of many twisted letters resemble the gestures of a  juggler: others, rectangularly static ones, reflect the profile of a  rail or a  steel girder – things which, in their times, were new and were observed by the first creators of Egyptiennes. These typefaces are ideal for circus posters and programs for theatre performances, just as for printing on cement sacks.

Arturo is a brand new font family drawn from the original inspiration of an old alphabet in one of Dan Solo 's Dover Clip Art books. It has moved far away from those raw roots, however. Every character has been redrawn. For example, I had a light version that I never could get working. Arturo is based on that light style and called Arturo Book. The name comes from a good friend of mine in El Paso. He was the guinea pig upon whom I foisted off the beginnings of this style so many years ago. I did several marketing pieces for him using the raw drawings. I figured that he deserved to have the family named after him, at the very least. This is a normal font family for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Maison Luxe is a revival of a very old font designed in France in or around the year 1820. You may have seen this font in the past under the names of Circus, Roma, Madame and Gillé Classic. As of November 2016 we have changed the name of this font from Gillé Classic to Maison Luxe which means Luxury House in French. For many years Joseph Gillé was credited as the original designer of this font however we've recently been contacted by a type historian in France reporting that he could not find any evidence supporting Joseph Gillé as the designer and to the best of his knowledge an artist by the name of Sylvestre may be the true designer. If you love this classic font then you're sure to enjoy the alternate version also with a matching lowercase available from FontMesa under the name of Home Style. This version of the classic with its squared off shadow is true to the original design where Home Style has diagonal lines creating a cast shadow. If I would cut off the »s« as well it would mean disambiguation and that in turn is, what I just did here. Enough disambiguation! »Artis« is a modern classical beauty with extreme contrast between up- and downstrokes that make it unique with a touch of art deco and showing Renaissance roots. FF Bauer Grotesk is a revival of the metal type Friedrich Bauer Grotesk, released between 1933 and 1934 by the foundry Trennert & Sohn in Hamburg Altona, Germany. The geometric construction of the typeface, infused with the art deco zeitgeist of that era, is closely related to such famous German designs as Futura, Erbar, Kabel and Super Grotesk that debuted a few years earlier. However, FF Bauer Grotesk stands out for being less dogmatic with the geometry, lending the design a warmer, more homogenous feeling. The oval “O” is a good example of that, as well as characteristic shapes like the capital M or the unconventionally differing endings of “c” and “s” which make for a less constructed look. The design was started by Thomas Ackermann, and he collaborated with Felix Bonge to evolve his original ideas into this fresh, modern geometric typeface family. FF Bauer Grotesk contains 6 weights with accompanying italics, and a wide range of OpenType typographic features including small caps, figure styles, fractions and contextual alternates. NEW: the new FF Bauer Grotesk W1G versions features a pan-European character set for international communications. The W1G character set supports almost all the popular languages/writing systems in western, eastern, and central Europe based on the Latin alphabet including Vietnamese, and also several based on Cyrillic and Greek alphabets.

Another variation on the Renaissance-Baroque Roman face, it extends the selection of text type faces. In comparison with Jannon, the contrast within the letters has been enhanced. The dynamic elements of the Renaissance Roman face have been strengthened in a way which is illustrated best in the letters "a", "b" and "s". These letters contain, in condensed form, the principle of this type face - in round shapes the dark stroke invariably has a round finial at one end and a sharp one at the other. Another typical feature is the lower-case "g"; the upper part of this letter consists of two geometrically exact circles, the inner of which, a negative one, is immersed down on the right, upright to the direction of the lower loop and the upright knob. The vertical strokes slightly splay out upwards. Some details of the upper-case letters may seem to be too daring, but they are less apparent in the text sizes. It has to be admitted that typographers tend to draw letters in exaggerated sizes, as a result of which they stick to details. Serapion Italic are italics inspired partly by the Renaissance Cancelleresca. This is obvious from the drop-shaped finials of its lower-case descenders. The type face is suitable for illustrated books, art posters and short texts. It has a rather ugly name - after St. Serapion.

Techarí comes from a commission in which the brief consisted of the creation of a typeface family to be used for the design of the third disc of the band called Ojos de Brujo based in Barcelona. This disc was called Techarí, which means “free” in Caló, the language of the Spanish gypsies. The starting point of the design was the music of this band, the meaning of the disc 's name, and three words given by the band as key concepts: ethnic, baroque and graffiti. Techarí is a mixture of lots of influences, which give it its unique personality. From its technical viewpoint designing Techarí was a challenge, on the one hand it had to have lots of personality, and on the other it had to work in text at 9 or 10 pt size. Its goal is precisely that, while keeping a strong personality it works in text size. The typeface also contains a Stencil version for use in display sizes which keeps Techarí's innovative spirit. The way it has been “cut" is unconventional, it has been carefully done to keep the freshness of the typeface by taking advantage of the letterforms' flow. Techarí extra complements the typeface by taking a classical typographic form, the ornament, and making it a contemporary graphic tool, vindicating this wonderful typographic element.

A modern sans serif – large x-height, lively forms The Lech Sans Pro is businesslike-modern but at the same time present the effect of liveliness and movement. The shapes of the individual characters follow the "humanistic" form language of modern faces. In this way, Lech Sans Pro offers an attractive alternative to most of the sans serif fonts used today. Lc Trinidad is the result of a series of wonderings regarding geometric Sans Serif typography design, in particular; Futura of Paul Renner. A “conversation” arose between me and the designer – actually there was no conversation, it is an euphemism for “I saw his designs, I draw them and discussed with myself some of his decisions – that ended up being the origin of this font firsts glyphs: A, H, N, O, R and S. I started with uppercase letters, and here is when Rudolf Koch with Kabel and his “Das schreibbuchlein” joined the conversation. This is how I could develop some alternative lowercase letters so as to illustrate this imaginary discussion. The result is a sans serif, geometric, modern typeface with classical Roman proportion in the uppercase letters; two stylistic sets for lowercase letters (setKoch and setRenner), rational, open and sharp ends. It is ideal to form titles, medium length texts, branding, exhibitions and animations. The family consists of 9 weight variants and their corresponding oblique versions and small caps. With more than 900 glyphs, it covers more than 190 Latin languages and together with its Opentype functions it creates a modern and versatile family. Besides, it has powerful OpenType features for each style, including stylistic sets, extended language support, ligatures, contextual alternates, lining figures, oldstyle figures, small caps numbers, arrows, fractions, superscripts, subscripts and many more.

Many local variants of the Greek alphabet were employed in ancient Greece during the archaic and early classical periods, until around 400 BC, when they were replaced by the classical 24-letter alphabet that is the standard today. All forms of the Greek alphabet were originally based on the shared inventory of the 22 symbols of the Phoenician alphabet, with the exception of the letter Samekh, whose Greek counterpart Xi (Ξ) was used only in a sub-group of Greek alphabets, and with the common addition of Upsilon (Υ) for the vowel /u, ū/.[1][2] The local, so-called epichoric, alphabets differed in many ways: in the use of the consonant symbols Χ, Φ and Ψ; in the use of the innovative long vowel letters (Ω and Η), in the absence or presence of Η in its original consonant function (/h/); in the use or non-use of certain archaic letters (Ϝ = /w/, Ϙ = /k/, Ϻ = /s/); and in many details of the individual shapes of each letter. The system now familiar as the standard 24-letter Greek alphabet was originally the regional variant of the Ionian cities in Anatolia. It was officially adopted in Athens in 403 BC and in most of the rest of the Greek world by the middle of the 4th century BC.

Sworded is a font family of 8 fonts that was inspired by such diverse things as architecture, tombstones, video games, watching old movies or reading comic books. The art of creating beautiful letters has slowly declined with the rise of the digital age and its solid-colour, 2D fonts. And most of the time, the care given to typography in cultural products just isn't what it used to be anymore. This was the inspiration for Sworded, a family of 4 layerable fonts that can bring a feeling of depth to its letters, and offers endless possible combinations. Sworded Regular is the basic shape of all the characters. Sworded Deep gives an impression of depth to characters or acts on its own as an illusion. Palatino Arabic is a collaboration between Lebanese designer Nadine Chahine and Prof. Hermann Zapf. The design is based on the Al-Ahram typeface designed by Zapf in 1956 but reworked and modified to fit the Palatino nova family. The design is Naskh in style but with a strong influence of the Thuluth style as well. This is evident in the swash-like finials and the wide proportions of the letterforms. It is designed for use in print in both large and small sizes. The counters are wide open to allow for better readability in small sizes as well as to maintain an open and friendly appearance. The font has 1091 glyphs and includes a large number of extra ligatures and stylistic alternates as well as the basic Latin part of Palatino nova and support for Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. It also includes proportional and tabular numerals for the supported languages. Palatino Arabic wins Type Directors Club award. Each year, the New York-based Type Directors Club judges typeface designs from all over the world in their TDC2 contest. Linotype is pleased to announce that a very new typeface of its own is among 2008’s winners: Palatino Arabic. A collaboration between Nadine Chahine and Prof. Hermann Zapf, this face is an extension of Zapf’s Al-Ahram Arabic type from 1956 recreated to join the Palatino nova family.

Ernie is a new animated typeface by Jim Ford, intended as a complimentary serif design to Freeman Craw’s fun retro hit, Ad Lib. The serif drawings mimic the behaviors of Ad Lib, on a Clarendon-esque structure. The application of Ad Lib’s behaviors to a serif design highlights it's quirky characteristics; notably in the added contrast, the bending of serifs and the translation to Ernie’s ball terminals. The lowercase g is probably the most extreme example of this "translation." Ernie has a savvy system of text animation built in; with dualing lowercase alphabets, 34 ligatures, and an extensive glossary of custom words, all programmed to automatically make intelligent pseudorandom wordshapes. It's called RMS, aka the Randomagic System. The glossary of “buzz” words is based on the most common and powerful words in marketing and advertising, as well as words that are specific to Ernie’s intended uses.. Additionally, Ernie Alt provides the opposite randomization effects in lowercase text, thus reversing the rhythm of the bounce. Ernie Sorts is a bonus font which includes fun printers fists, expandable banners and other graphic elements. The Ernie character and cartoons were created by Johnny Sampson, as a visualization of the typeface, it's character and it's unique features.

Clementine, from Okaycat, is a font designed to be expressive. First, we wanted Clementine to be uplifting, friendly and warm. Secondly, we wanted it to be familiar, but neither staid nor boring. To make Clementine more warm and friendly, 90 degree corners and cubic forms were not allowed. All straight edges are either subtly curved or lightly tapered (with the small exception of the serif foundations, to create a secure base). To add an uplifting feel, all tapering flows towards the apex of the forms and the ascenders were allowed extra rising freedom above the capital height, similar to the effect intended in the architecture of old European churches -- to point all elements gently upwards towards heaven. To keep Clementine familiar, traditional type setting shapes were used throughout the font. To avoid the usual coldness of typical typewritten fonts, all forms were opened up, calligraphic touches were introduced, and any unnecessary serif elements were omitted. The result is a look that brings a touch of nostalgia or a "retro" feel. Clementine is highly appropriate anywhere a soft and friendly feel is desired. Can work well as a body text, or as ad copy. Clementine is extended, containing the full West European diacritics & a full set of ligatures, making it suitable for multilingual environments & publications.

Pata Slab: the ultra-heavy optimism we all need in 2020 Pata Slab is the type equivalent of a catwalk stomp down a city sidewalk, a font that’s assertive, funky and more than a little sexy. Named after a colloquialism for ‘feet’, Pata features ultra-heavy slabs and contrasting hairline centers that rise from its chunky footprint. The resulting, retro-inspired vertiginous curves add instant attitude to any design. Developed in 2020, Pata is a type of its time.Pata is all upside, as it is a typeface with no descenders — one that elevates all characters to grow upward from the baseline (because, c’mon, we could all use something uplifting right now!) All uppercase characters were built to fit precisely inside a square, so they’re all the same width and height. The lowercase alphabet, eñes, cedillas, punctuation, numbers and symbols all follow the same height restrictions. Quayside is a deliciously thick and bulbous baseball script, with a wealth of OpenType features. Features include: Contextual alternates - I would suggest having these on by default; they make letters connect more smoothly (uppercase letters like M and H, which are normally non-connecting for all-caps purposes, connect to lowercase letters. The swash variant of J, and all o and b characters connect to any e character at a lower junction for a smoother join). Contextual alternates also make sure special end-forms of lowercase letters are used at the ends of words. Ligatures - A nice collection of useful ligatures which make the text flow smoother. Swash - Gives you more exuberant capitals. Not recommended for all-caps usage! The swash function also gives a variation of the ampersand and turns # into a nice numero symbol. Oldstyle Figures - lining figures are default but with the flick of a switch in OpenType savvy applications, you get expressive oldstyle figures. Quayside is a versatile typeface. Depending on the mood you're after, it can easily be retro or modern, fun or (fairly) serious.
