Once upon a time, Mestre Patau, the «Black» magician, concerned about children´s typefaces historical ugliness, decided to settle the matter and using his vector powers, made letters embellished to be used in that stories so that they were according with the great genius all children have inside. Well done face but happy, goodness is not incompatible with joy. A solid construction, smooth, rounded, vibrant, generous curves and even more generous x-height and general proportions, give to the letter the vitality and freshness needed for use in projects where formality is not a requirement. Since the 1800s, many patents were issued for methods to hold papers together. The two most popular and enduring tools still in use today are the stapler and the paper clip. In recent times a number of clips in novelty shapes have been available in just about every size, shape and color imaginable. Back in the beginning there were many variations as well, but the purpose of these design variants was to try and command the majority of sales in the fledgling market of bent wire clips by offering a unique and hopefully better product. HWT Artz is the newest wood type to be cut at Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum. It was designed by venerable type designer Erik Spiekermann exclusively for his own print studio (P98a in Berlin), specifically to be cut into large size wood type. The digital version is being offered to the general public with proceeds of sales to benefit the museum's ongoing operations. HWT Artz evokes bold early 20th century European poster lettering. The design itself is intended to minimize hand-finishing and thus production time with rounded corners rather than sharp interior corners that would normally have to be hand-finished. The typography on a 1964 children’s activity book published by Whitman entitled “Build with Stencils” was in a bold, condensed design. The only problem was that the ‘rails’ [the parts that divide a letter into stencil pieces] were too narrow and would disappear at smaller point sizes. Widening the ‘rails’ just a bit greatly improved the appearance of the stencil characters. Play Day Stencil JNL is now available in both regular and oblique versions. In its day, the Whitman Publishing Company of Racine, Wisconsin published dozens of activity books for children, including a number of them with stencils. The company was a division of Western Publishers from the early 1900s through the 1970s, but went through a number of sales and name changes. Currently [as Whitman once again] it is owned by Anderson Press, and is known for its line of coin folders and books on coin collecting.

Cornelius is a playful hand-drawn font family designed by Daniel Bak (Artcity). It is available in three handy weights: regular, bold and screaming. It contains international language accent marks and diacriticals, including Greek and Cyrillic in both OTF and TTF formats. Font family name is inspired by the main male ape character from the 1968 science fiction film Planet of the Apes and Pierre Boulle novel of the same name. This is a standard, plain face with no special distinguishing features. It was created over a period of four months for use in small text in a cartographer package. While the face was extremely suitable for the purpose it was designed for, the party who was to purchase the family outright decided upon another design, allowing me to offer it up for sale. The original design for this face is nothing new, and has been greatly influenced by many others already in existence. It was not intended to be flashy, nor eye-catching, and I believe I have managed to escape any individuality that could have affected the face. It displays well in the lower text sizes, and, in my own opinion, displays some characters more clearly than some other similar faces that are currently in use (not all, some). While individuality makes a typeface stand out from all the others, this style of design would have been compromised with it.

Alta California became designer steve mehallo's "vector-based artist's response" to the early Apple Macintosh bitmapped font San Francisco. Alta California was developed using "sampled" wood type and letters from numerous historical sources. The name comes from the Alta California newspaper, the first daily published in California, one of a dubious Barbary Coast nature, a sheet that shaped the bias of San Franciscans and attracted its own grade of reporters, including a printing specialist who went under the nom de plume Mark Twain. Alta California's edges were meticulously redrafted by hand, with letterpress-inspired fallout and 19th century pointing hands. The final collection of rough hewn letters jump, dive, fall, zag and zig. Alta California looks great on greeting cards, food packaging, as retail signage for boutiques, vintage stores or at D.I.Y. sales, on band posters or club cards, in and around historical quarters, or for use on any ransom note that needs to evoke a wild west look and feel.

Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic was a Serbian philologist and linguist who was the major reformer of the Serbian language. In addition to his linguistic reforms, Karadzic also contributed to folk literature, using peasant culture as the foundation. Because of his peasant upbringing, he was closely associated with the oral literature of the peasants, compiling it to use in his collection of folk songs, tales, and proverbs. He was well known abroad and familiar to Jacob Grimm, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and historian Leopold von Ranke. This typeface, based on his manuscripts, presents the perfect balance between casual handwriting and careful calligraphy. Thoroughly created by Vedran Erakovic and Marija Rnjak, it contains a comprehensive set of upper and lower case letter alternates.
