Meet Ollie, a casual signage script whose friendly, bouncy exterior belies a heart of sophisticated OpenType programming. This font is designed to make the most of OpenType savvy applications, and as such is recommended for professional design use. Or to put it another way: Make sure that contextual alternates and ligatures are always turned on! Ollie includes about 900 glyphs, many of which are automagical substitutions to keep the text flowing smoothly, and to pseudo-randomly pick different glyphs to avoid repetition. With contextual alternates turned on (as they should be by default), most lowercase letters will alternate between at least two different forms. The powerful OpenType programming makes the font itself ‘look back’ (up to eight characters) on previously used letters; typing “banana” will give you three different a’s and two different n’s (the last a is a special ‘end form’ character). The calt feature controls many other ‘special effects’ which all add together to give a smooth-flowing, hand-lettered look. These effects include start and end forms (and indeed, ‘loner’ forms) of many letters, which are automatically substituted in at beginnings or ends of words, or when the previous or next letter doesn't connect. Another special feature tests to see if there is room for the crossbar of t (or tt ligature) to extend further over the previous or next letter, or both, as is often the case. The last main effect of the calt feature is to substitute certain letters typed before any ‘e’ character, to make for a more natural connection (see the pe combination in ‘Eclectotype’ in the first poster). Ligatures should be on by default, for a much nicer looking tt combination, and a few others besides. The swash feature should be used sparingly (one glyph at a time, really) to apply a more extravagant look to g,j and y in the lower case, and quite a few of the upper case too. Oldstyle figures are included, as well as the lining defaults. Now to delve into the stylistic alternates... These are all included in the salt feature, or for uses of applications that support them, separated into stylistic sets thus: ss01 - (with swash feature on) L and G swashes get even swashier. ss02 - standard s changes to a connected script s form. ss03 - r takes on a script form. ss04 - z also gets a scriptier look. [the previous three sets also change any versions of s, r or z with diacritics] ss05 - a useful underline function. When enabled, typing two or more underscores will extend a cool underline under the previous letters. More underscores = longer underline. ss06 - the Polish script lslash changes to its more standard form. ss07 - E, S and B change to a more top-heavy alternate form. ss08 - An alternate form for A characters. ss09 - Alterative rounder forms of M and N. ss10 - An alternate ampersand. That about wraps up the features. Now all that’s left is for you to license the font and get experimenting!

While there can be similar handwriting styles out there, no two handwritings are exactly the same. I like to think that I have the same handwriting style as my father, but I had never seen him write with lowercase letters, only in all capitals, except when signing his name on something in cursive. I recently came across a letter my father had written long ago to a friend. It was returned to sender, yet he kept it intact. The letter primarily thanked his friend for his hospitality when my father unexpectedly dropped in for a visit while traveling. I was so taken by the handwriting, that I decided to make it into a font, not only to remember my father, but also to forever preserve his handwriting. Generous Hospitality not only taps into the character of the person the letter was written to, it also reflects the personality of my father. The Dalecarlian runes, or dalrunes, was a late version of the runic script that was in use in the Swedish province of Dalarna until the 20th century.The province has consequently been called the "last stronghold of the Germanic script. When Carl Linnaeus visited Älvdalen in Dalarna in 1734, he made the following note in his diary: The peasants in the community here, apart from using rune staves, still today write their names and ownership marks with runic letters, as is seen on walls, corner stones, bowls, etc. Which one does not know to be still continued anywhere else in Sweden. The Dalecarlian runes were derived from the medieval runes, but the runic letters were combined with Latin ones, and Latin letters would progressively replace the runes. At the end of the 16th century, the Dalecarlian runic inventory was almost exclusively runic, but during the following centuries more and more individual runes were replaced with Latin characters. In its last stage almost every rune had been replaced with a Latin letter, or with special versions that were influenced by Latin characters.

Jazm is an Arabetic typeface design with connected glyphs. Jazm was the earliest, pre-Islamic, script style of the modern Arabic script, before branching into Kufi and Naskh styles. The initial script had a lot less, position-dependent shapes and ligatures, and was not strictly connected. It occasionally included minuscule dots to distinguish identical shapes. This font family design is a modern visualization by the designer of the historical Jazm letter shapes following the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph for each Arabic letter that can connect with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Jazm employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and selected marks. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form, if desired. Keying Tatweel before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. Wood Type Catalogs of the 19th century often offered tools and accessories alongside alphabets of wood type. Probably the most closely related was wood type borders and ornaments. Decorative Borders were often sold by the foot and accompanied by corner pieces that matched the designs. These borders could be assembled in almost any size dimensions as needed. The digital version uses the same principals of modular assembly to create the exact size border that is needed. Along with the borders, included in this font are a selection of "streamers". These banners would have been made to order with the font designs reversed out along a horizontal banner with decorative end caps. The digital version allows for a modular assembly by selecting choice of end caps and then typing the = as many times as needed to achieve the desired length. 10 styles of 9 piece borders can be created in any size variations as well as 8 styles of streamers in any desired length. Some of the designs can be mixed and matched for unusual contemporary design interpretations of these historic styles. It is recommended that the line height (leading) is set to the same size as the point size setting, this will visually lock all elements together.

Momoiro is a feminine typeface family, designed for editorial use. "The first case in which appeared a fashion content in a magazine was in 1672 in the magazine Le Mercure Galant, which was a magazine of entertainment and varied content, including fashion. But the first illustrated and specialized magazine was Le Journal Des Dammes Et Des Modes, created in 1797. "(Fashion Trends, 2011). On the basis of this historical period, the creation of typography has characteristics of a Baroque type. "In this category we mainly include the types created in the Netherlands during the seventeenth century and whose protagonists are the punch makers Reinhard Voskens and Christoffel Van Dijck. Baroque typography stands out for its accentuated play of irregular axes and contrasts that permeate the text of great vividness. " Therefore it has contrast in the thick and thin strokes, Roman serifs, humanistic axis. With this typography, we are not looking for a re-reading of the baroque, but rather a current typeface with humanistic characteristics of the handwriting, with a brush as a differential. Momoiro comes in two weights plus italics to cover as much design needs as possible. It compliments from OpenType features such as ligatures, swashes, true fractions, old style numerals and stylistic sets.

Clockmaker takes aesthetic references from Victorian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco advertising and typography, taking special influence from John F. Cummings’ all-caps – and never digitized – type design Elandkay.  Clockmaker is a robust multi-weight family that includes an array of ligatures as well as alternate characters and support for all latin languages. The design process began with developing and modernizing the uppercase letterforms, followed by designing the lowercase and additional weights. Creating a diverse and playful set of uppercase ligatures was an almost endlessly enjoyable task; they are one of Clockmaker’s most charming features. Clockmaker is an impeccable choice for designs requiring a vintage flair such as a luxury liquor labels, restaurant identities, lavish hotels and many other applications where elegance and grace are needed.   In addition to its historical references, Clockmaker is an homage to my grandfather who was a master craftsman, repairing antique clocks and fine watches with great skill and mathematical precision. Watching him work was fascinating and it has been a joy to remember those quiet and curious moments from my childhood while designing this font.

Frutiger Capitalis Regular and Outline belong to the group of typefaces for the Linotype’s Type Before Gutenberg project. However, they are not based on direct historical sources. At first glance, they may seem related to the roman type Capitalis Monumentalis, but upon closer examination, the fonts reveal a vitality unknown to the characters the Romans etched in stone. Frutiger confesses that creating Capitalis was “a liberation”. After working on so many sophisticated and meticulously designed typefaces, Frutiger Capitalis was a breath of fresh air. Stylistically, Frutiger Capitalis Outline forms a bridge to Frutiger Capitalis Signs, a whole universe of its own. Frutiger Capitalis Signs is a personal cosmos of symbols, many are immediately “legible”, others leave room for interpretation. Some of the symbols are the product of Frutiger’s imagination, such as his “Life Signs” — soft, hand drawn figures whose lines have no apparent beginning or end, creating both interior and exterior spaces, new forms emerging at each glance. These contoured drawings have accompanied Frutiger throughout his professional life, a fantasy garden which has provided an important balance to his many years of disciplined typeface design. Yet he does not consider himself an artist. Frutiger says he simply “wants to tell stories, to draw thin lines, create contours of signs; that is my style”.

Phrygia is the Greek name of an ancient state in western-central Anatolia (modern Turkey), extending from the Eskişehir area east to (perhaps) Boğazköy and Alishar Hüyük within the Halys River bend. The Assyrians, a powerful state in northern Mesopotamia to the south, called the state Mushki; what its own people called it is unknown. We know from their inscriptions that the Phrygians spoke an Indo-European language. Judging from historical records supported by ceramic evidence, settlers migrating from the Balkans in Europe first settled here a hundred or more years following the destruction of the Hittite empire (ca. 1200 B.C.). Most of what is known about Phrygian archaeology and its language derives from excavations at the capital city Gordion, located about 60 miles southwest of the modern Turkish capital of Ankara (also a Phrygian site). Gustav and Alfred Körte first excavated Gordion in 1900. The excavators did not reach Phrygian levels, but they did reveal burials dated to the late eighth century B.C. with Phrygian ceramic, metal, and wooden artifacts. From 1950 to 1973, Rodney S. Young of the University of Pennsylvania led excavations at Gordion. Archaeological work at the site resumed in 1988 and continues to the present.

Originally released in 2008, Stern is the only typeface to be produced and marketed simultaneously in digital and metal. In the twenty-first century, no less. It is also the last typeface Jim Rimmer ever completed. The process he used for its design and manufacture is the stuff of legend, and can be seen in the Richard Kegler documentary, Making Faces: Metal Type in the 21st Century. The design is a delicate upright italic named in memory of Chris Stern, the late artist and printer from Washington State. In 2013, Canada Type remastered and expanded the design's offerings to a glyphset of over 1200 characters, updated programming. Neacademia is a Latin and Cyrillic type family inspired by the types cut by 15th century punchcutter Francesco Griffo for Venetian printer Aldus Manutius. Beyond the letterforms themselves, however, the digital fonts themselves are based on the techniques and methods Griffo employed. The family comprises four distinct variants optimised for specific point sizes, as was traditional in metal type. While the display sizes maintain a visual link to calligraphic roots, text sizes exhibit more typographic qualities, following the hand of the carver. Likewise, Neacademia maintains its even colour on the page by carefully employing alternative letterforms, rather than leaning on a multitude of kerning pairs. A geeky little detail you’ll likely need to point out with a magnifying glass to your type friends, but creating a neat texture that works in readers favour nonetheless. Neacademia’s historically sensitive eye is put to work for modern typographers’ needs. It incorporates Griffo’s italic capitals and harmonizes them with the lowercase and the romans — where the original Aldine italics had no capitals of their own and simply re-used the uprights. It was designed with specific allowances for letterpress photopolymer printing. Printed digitally, it can tolerate – and even benefit from – low resolution, rough paper, and low-grade presswork. In many ways, it feels like using metal type again!

Philadelphian is a revival of a MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan font from 1867 by the same name. The regular version with shadow outline was the only style that was offered in 1867. We've taken the original design further by creating two additional weights of medium and bold plus plain black versions. The medium and bold weights are unique because only the horizontal strokes increase in thickness while the vertical strokes remain the same in each weight. Philadelphian Nite is the plain black version of this font family, Nite is the casual spelling of the word Night meaning dark or black. In the late 1800's Philadelphian was a very popular typeface which can be seen on many billheads and letterheads through the early 1900's. If you're looking for a western style font that doesn't look like any other then Philadelphian is the right choice. While the name doesn't remind you of the cowboy genre we've kept the original name for historical reasons because this font was so popular in its day. We plan on going forward with a weathered version of Philadelphian which will be released under a southwestern style name. With Philadelphian we've decided to set the complete family price to an amount that may be considered on sale all of the time.

Between geometry & shapes inspired by nature, in 4 fonts Audace was born as a response to a simple brief: how to visually express human interaction and technology with abstract forms? The starting point is a humanistic sanserif, to which are added external references: design pieces, furniture, buildings. Architects shape our world with the intention to reconnect nature, human and address a perfect functionality. Not so far to typeface design which combines a personal vision and ensures good legibility in a certain context. Audace — like the works of those artists, designers, architects — is clearly influenced by the tension of the line, the play with negative space, the dynamics, the surprise, the nature that will influence the shapes of the letters. So if a v is asymmetrical, and the y based on similar asymmetry but in reverse, these two shapes help to distinguish from one to the other. This is a consequence of the influence of forms from design and art in the design of the Audace. And this small example illustrates the confrontations of the designer’s influences: the search for the most unique shapes, but without compromising on function: to be read, to be legible, even at very small size in the worst conditions. FF Attribute™ Mono is a monospaced design with an industrial strength, minimalist vibe, making it perfect for attention getting, theme-based headlines, posters, banners and navigational links.
