The design of the Jeunesse font family derives from a study of primers which the designer undertook earlier in his career. The design concept of M Gentle is inspired by the aesthetics of ribbon gymnastics and the tenderness of orchids. The beauty of the two are combined in one typeface. Keeping the characters in right proportion and standard structure, its horizontal and vertical strokes (橫、豎) are generally straight. The linkage among dots (點), downstrokes and the ticks (剔) to the right represent a sense of movement and fill the typeface with liveliness and humanity. While M Gentle Light shows purity and softness, Medium and Bold fonts have their own personalities. They are all legible and suitable for a wide range of purposes, make the family a popular choice in the advertising industry.

In thinking about a way to express the character of this script, it occurred to me that the splitting of the main downstrokes in the caps is almost like when knife cuts into butter. Picture a butter knife that slices into butter, slowly wedging the cut wider so that when it is pulled back, the remaining shape would resemble the main downstroke of any capital letter. The lowercase characters have an almost roundhand-like character but with a slightly more formal presence. Available in Postscript, Truetype and Opentype for both Mac and Windows, Beurre is ideal for Menu's, Invitations and pretty much anywhere you need a reasonably strong, but friendly legible script. First of all, let me get one thing straight: With Janky Action, I didn’t make any attempt on making a beautiful or good looking font! Janky Action is my humble attempt to recreate a sign I saw at a flea market. The sign was obviously made by someone who didn’t give a darn about the width of strokes, height of letters, and other “rules” when making a sign. I fell in love with the naive approach on how to make a sign. In order to create some randomness, I have added 4 different versions of each lowercase letter. I was lucky to see this building from the beginning (2009) growing up (2013) That time when I was working and living here. I was always amazed by the design and how huge it is every time I took a look at it while driving or walking on the Erasmus Bridge. When I was going to work or just hiking around the city. It has a special meaning and message for me: I started creating fonts in my free time in 2010 when I came to this city to work. “Blackduck” font is a typical Gothic, usually named “Blackletter” . This typeface was born with the name of “Textur” and developed from Carolingian cursive. It was used in the middle age as sacred script, became increasingly narrower, his vertical lines were emphasized and his strokes very compacted to save space. Along the time the early German print typefaces derived in others styles that were more readable such as Schwabacher and Fraktur, very popular in Germany and sometimes associated to the identity of the country. The font "Blackduck" was inspired mixing carefully the last two “Blackletters”. We try to joine some characteristics of both to reach good legibility without loosing the strong impact and powerfulness of the shapes. Some minuscules like the “o” “c” “e” “d” are rounded on both sides, while both strokes join in an angle at the top and at the bottom. Some other lower cases are formed by an angular and rounded stroke. This font contains a full set of OpenType features; swashes, stylistics alternates, old style figures (Arabic numeral were carefully shape integrated), ligatures and some extras ornaments were added to help in your design. "Blackduck" includes diacritic signs for Central European languages.

Cora is a sans serif with an experimental bent, offering a large x-height, some contrast of stroke weight, and capitals inspired by classical lettering. The large x-height gives it a voice with a little more volume so that those in the back of the room have no trouble hearing. Because the letters seem slightly large, Cora remains clear at smaller point sizes. It is a typeface intended to perform well on screen without losing its attraction in print and the nature of its shapes allows for condensation or expansion without becoming severely distorted. The uppercase exhibits classical proportions found in ancient Roman inscriptions, which provides opportunities for setting titles in all caps. “A couple of years ago, when I was designing a package for a marmalade range, I started having a go at creating a typeface that would suit the package I had in mind. The whole process was intensely appealing to me: from merely using typefaces as an intricate part of my work as an art director, I started exploring the function of each and every element that a typeface consists of. The two things on my mind in designing a typeface for a marmalade brand were firstly, that I wanted it to have a hand-written feel, so as to exude that old-fashioned, homemade quality, and secondly, that it ought to have a certain sweetness and gentleness that would match the product. However, PF Scandal managed to outgrow its original inspiration. As I continued working on it, I toned down some of its elements to make it more versatile. And so, PF Scandal evolved into a typeface that has a contemporary, and yet handwritten look, which makes it suitable for a wide range of uses. The ‘Pro’ version comes with the full array of European characters including Latin, Greek and Cyrillic as well as 120 matching pictograms". -A.S.
