Hazim is a display font designed with isolated letters. It uses thin white slits positioned within extra bold black space glyphs emphasizing the main visual characteristics of the Arabetic letters in two positions: initial/medial and final/isolated. The spacing widths between glyphs match that of the slits to give a virtual cursive look and feel. The name Hazim was chosen to honor a friend of the designer, Hazim al-Khafaji. Hazim supports all Arabetic scripts covered by Unicode 6.1, and the latest Arabic Supplement and Extended-A Unicode blocks, including support for Quranic texts. It comes with one weight and a left-slanted “italic”. The script design of this font family follows the Arabetics Mutamathil Taqlidi style and utilizes varying x-heights. The Mutamathil Taqlidi type style uses one glyph per every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined by the Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph, for each freely-connecting letter in an Arabic text. Hazim includes the required Lam-Alif ligatures in addition to all vowel diacritic ligatures. Hazims’s soft-vowel diacritic marks (harakat) are only selectively positioned with most of them appearing on similar lower or upper positions to make sure they do not interfere with the letters. Sánchez Niu is a redesign of Sánchez—one of the first font families by Latinotype designed in 2011. In the typedesign industry the terms ‘nova’, ‘neue’, ‘next’, ‘new’ are often used to refer to a typeface that has been modified in different ways: redesign, technical readjustments, greater number of characters, etc. At Latinotype we are now starting to use the word ‘niu’ to refer to these kinds of typefaces. Niu is an adaptation of the original word ‘new’, i.e., we have adapted this English word to the phonology and spelling of our own language but keeping the original meaning. Race mixing, diversity, change and adaptation are part of the essence of Latin American culture and, at Latinotype, we are all constantly expressing these elements in everything we do. Latin Power! Frederic Goudy drew Truesdell in 1930 and first used it for an article in a quarterly journal for book collectors. Since it was a small family and not promoted, Goudy received few orders for fonts. The original drawings and matrices for the face were lost in the fire that destroyed Goudy's studio in 1939.The only known examples of Truesdell fonts reside in the extensive collection of typographic material at the Rochester Institute of Technology School of Printing. It was proofs from these fonts that served as the basis for Monotype's digital revival of the family. ITC Élan combines a gothic simplicity with elegance in a distinctive yet subtle typeface design. The Pommes font originates from my mid seventies potato punchcuttings at artschool. Since I’m living in a potato republic (NE of the province of Groningen) I got inspired to continue. I prepared this culinary alphabet as a tribute to this wonderful allround vegetable. Belgian and French recipies helped me in selecting and cutting/cooking the 6 styles. The Pommes-Dauphine Ultra Heavy (too much eggs added) can be used as a layer behind the Pommes-Dauphine.
