Saral, meaning simple in Hindi, is a monolinear design supporting most Devanagari based languages. Derived from the older Linotype typeface Rohini, it has been greatly expanded into three weights and a wide character set. Saral Light, Regular, and Bold are made to coordinate with the respective weights of Helvetica. This design works well in many environments, such as corporate designs, advertising, packaging, signage, and especially for bi-lingual texts. The OpenType font format accommodates hundreds of pre-composed conjuncts, accurate placement of vowel signs, and supports varying length matras. Saral's Unicode encoding guarantees your text is rendered correctly and is compatible across different software and computer platforms. Genesis and the creative process The idea for an Astronef Super comes from an excerpt from a 60s TV show which shows a logo in the background with a very bold S and this super thin in the middle. The Astronef is already modular in its design. The brief then becomes simple for the Super: accentuate the strongest weights of the Astronef by minimizing the counterform that will remain constant for the three styles. It is the mass effect that maintains the overall cohesion of the Astronef Super family.

Michael Hoffmann manufactures digital fonts for 30 years. At URW++ he contributed to the technological progress. Over the years, he also specialized in the ideal representation of fonts on screen and the complex assembly of international fonts with scripts of all countries. In his latest project he put the emphasis on developing a highly readable typeface. Less interested in the design as in the functionality of this typeface, he designed Arsapia which he has now installed as a system font on all his computers. Michael Hoffmann studied Japanology at the University of Hamburg and traveled in the early years of his professional activity frequently to Japan, there to train the IKARUS font production tools to Japanese customers. In his spare time he plays guitar or golf depending on the weather. The typeface Arsapia has been designed in such a way that all three font styles Light, Regular and Bold have the same width. When a user therefore opts for the use of Arsapia Light, even though he has already written his text in Regular, nothing changes with respect to the letter tracking. When choosing the Bold for emphasis: Nothing changes except the blackness of the letters. A font change does not engender unwanted line and page breaks of itself. All letters can be clearly distinguished from each other. 1 l I O 0 are all different. For programmers and lovers of monospaced fonts Michael Hoffmann has developed a fourth typeface: Arsapia Mono. Anca typeface started as a comission work for Fest Anca, an international animation festival. They needed something to complement the corporate identity of the festival. Inspiration came from a sketch made by my friend long time ago, which had a tremendous potential. As letters were digitized and the basic alphabet was completed, a very practical and universal typeface resulted. The whole type family has a playful and simple look with rounded stroke endings as well as long ascenders. The construction skeleton uses the minimum number of strokes and as a consequence, some original letter shapes (Q, w, j, &, A, §) were produced. Despite the fact that most letter shapes are based on geometry, some strokes are intentionally irregular, which creates a very natural feeling. Anca is appropriate for setting short paragraphs, headings and big inscriptions.

Como is a modern rounded sans-serif family designed by Ryoichi Tsunekawa and the whole family consists of 8 weights from ExtraLight to Heavy. The basic skeleton of their letterform was designed geometrically and their ends were rounded out. Beauchef is a sans serif typeface originally created to meet the needs of Centro de Modelamiento Matemático de la Universidad de Chile (University of Chile Center for Mathematical Modeling). Beauchef is a typeface with rough strokes that features subtle optical compensation and does not strictly follow the laws of perception. This typeface might not be too cheerful, but shows a very particular idiosyncrasy of form. Beauchef is as tough as advanced mathematics; however, it is as legible and exact as numbers themselves. This is an avant-garde typeface that resembles the development of mathematics, but at the same time it is as conservative, calm and respectful as clients who require its services. Beauchef is so astonishing as mathematical formulas that mathematicians work with, but at the same time it is as humble as resulting figures.

We are pleased to announce the launch of Vástago Grotesk, a nine-weight sans serif font family, inspired by the traditional grotesque designs of the 20th century. The particular ink traps, result of the G drawing, create it a visual universe that is replicated throughout the system, generating personality and a functional distinctive in multiple contexts. Vástago Grotesk was born out of an interest in exploring the possibilities of Sans Serif font design, a process that is complemented by the advice of excellent typographers throughout the world thanks to the Type Crit Crew initiative. The design was carefully constructed, achieving functionality in different sizes, ranging from a subtle Thin to a Heavy weight that projects grandeur and character. An original script font designed by Victor Kharyk and licensed by ParaType in 2006. Based on Ukrainian Skoropis (fast handwriting) of 16-17th centuries. The font was named after Ukrainian Getman Bogdan Khmelnitsky, because the main sources and inspirations for the project were taken from collection of handwriting Universals (decrees) of that time -- the middle of 17th century. The shape of letters imitates flat nib quill handwriting with stress, bringing them informal liveliness. The Bogdan font character set contains Cyrillic, Old Slavonic , Glagolitic, Latin and Greek alphabets in two variants: Rejestrowy (Regular) and Siczowy (Alternate). The font is for use in display typography, but can work quite well for short text setting. Bogdan type is well suited for historical and cultural texts associated with Europe of 15-17th centuries

Marian Churchland was born in Canada in 1982, and was raised on a strict diet of fine literature and epic fantasy video games. She has a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (English Literature and Visual Arts) from the University of British Columbia, and has been doing professional illustration work, including book covers and magazine articles, since she was 17. Last year, she became the first woman to solo-illustrate a CONAN story, and this year she’s illustrating three issues of ELEPHANTMEN for Image Comics.
