Mixed Drinks JNL derives its look from a set of gold foil self-adhesive letters made by a company called Cameo for the Schenley distilling company circa the late 1950s or early 1960s. The letters were used to personalize bottles of whiskey for your own bar or to give as a unique gift.

Not inspired by any one thing, Candy Randy came about as an attempt to capture the feel of hours spent aimlessly perusing childrens' advertising and packaging from the early 1960s. It always reminds me a bit of Christmas and was named after an imaginary character in tales told to my youngest sister.

Clean and geometric deco sans typefaces have been used in a range of scientific publications, corporate logotypes, and beauty products over the years. However, a typeface of this style has yet to have an expansive range of widths and weights to become a design workhorse, until now. The Sunblock family finds its origin of inspiration in the Coppertone sunscreen company logo, and from there expands to type megafamily. Sunblock celebrates the rounded geometric forms of deco and bauhaus lettering through a compressed lens, transcending its brand inspired origin to give birth to a font family that pulls on modern and historical styles. It inherited its soothing tone from the limited character logotype that inspired it, and goes on to include a lowercase, small caps, and a comprehensive range of widths and weights, creating a straightforward, uncompromising collection of typefaces that lend a solid foundation and a broad range of expression for designers. This was a patented design, so we know who designed it and when. August Will was a type cutter who sold his work to a number of foundries. We worked over this design to open up the space between the strokes to accompdate smaller sizes.

Zodor JNL is modeled from the packaging for injection-molded plastic letters used as a teaching toy for youngsters in the early 1960s. The hand-drawn alphabet on the sides of the package was quirky enough to merit being made into a digital font.
