A vintage lettering stencil manufactured by the E-Z Letter Stencil Company of Baltimore, Maryland was the model for Schoolyard Stencil JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions. Re-drawn digitally and following the actual bend of the steel rule dies used to cut the stencils, this typeface has not been cleaned up from its original design. Upon close examination, you will find straight angles and slight curves in the most unusual places. This was representative of the difficult work involved in bending steel cutting rule material and fitting it into small areas. For many years, E-Z Letter was the main competitor to the Stenso Lettering Company; the originator of the oil board stencil lettering guide complete with automatic spacing holes. Anyone over 40 will well-remember lettering their science fair posters, report covers and ring binders with these stencils.

Bayer Sans, is based on the typography of the Austrian-born artist Herbert Bayer. Bayer worked as a teacher and graphic designer at the Bauhaus, a revolutionary German art school, during the 20's. PODIUM Sharp is Extended version of DUDU typeface designed in 2012. After many years I’ve decided to rebuild and develop this typeface by adding new masters and weights. Finally PODIUM Sharp consist of 234 styles: from ultra compressed hairline to extra expanded heavy. Main purpose of this project was idea to make hybrid between different modular and geometric woodtypes that I found in old polish specimens: Rex, Blok, Bacarat etc. Thanks to big range of different styles, PODIUM will be perfect choice for visual identities, posters and display usage. For better comfort of using PODIUM I’ve prepared new idea of styles naming based on Frutigres’s Universe and Climbing evaluation. First digit means width and the second weights of style. According to designer David Farey, Cachet is a monospaced, monostroke typeface -- that isn't."" Why the sleight of hand? Typefaces that are limited to a single character and stroke width suffer in terms of legibility. Farey's goal in drawing Cachet was to create a typeface that gives the illusion of monospacing, while delivering a subliminal dose of reader-friendliness. At first glance, Cachet appears to be constructed of straight and nearly-straight strokes. A closer look, however, reveals several subtleties. Curved strokes have an almost calligraphic spontaneity. Places where character strokes meet are tapered slightly, while stroke ends have been flared. These quiet deviations from geometric uniformity give the design a human, organic, and decidedly non-digital look. An added benefit is that the subtle design modulation benefits readability. Farey's subtle design modulation results in a legible and highly usable new typeface.

Hesse Antiqua is the very first typeface designed by Gudrun Zapf von Hesse. It was a pioneering project originally created by her over 70 years ago as a set of brass punches to stamp into leather book covers and spines at the Bauer Type Foundry in Germany. In celebration of her 100th birthday on 2 January 2018, Ferdinand Ulrich and the Monotype Studio team collaborated with her to bring her brass punches to live as a digital font. Hesse Antiqua was developed with careful considerations and decisions to capture the nuance of the beautiful letterforms as they originally appeared in gold and blind stampings. We are pleased to introduce this modern OpenType typeface featuring a proper set of capitals and small capitals, figures, punctuation and some ornaments as well. The 1990s was a time of creativity, experimentation and exploration into the world of digital typography by amateur and professional alike. Ray Larabie [through his Larabie Fonts] offered dozens upon dozens of wide-ranging (and often most unusual) freeware fonts. Ray was the driving force of encouragement and a behind-the-scenes “mentor” who helped Jeff Levine Fonts get underway in January of 2006. As his focus changed to high-quality commercial type with the launch of Typodermic, Inc., many of Ray’s “less than perfect” font experiments were withdrawn. He eventually turned those typefaces into a bundled zip archive released into the public domain through Creative Commons. “Webster World” resembles a fusion of Techno and Western styles. With Ray's permission, the original characters have been cleaned up and re-made as Space Traveler JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

A companion piece to Mulgrave, this font is the intermediary design between the chunky Victorian style that Mulgrave reproduces and the Ministry of Transport sans introduced in 1933 and digitised as Ministry. Although they date from between 1910 and 1933, these signs show the beginnings of several features Ministry later incorporated, notably the thinner strokes and the more modern forms of the G, M, R and S. For decades, cereal companies have included premiums [promotional gifts] inside their packages, printed on the cartons or to send for with a special coupon and redemption instructions. During the 1940s, Pep cereal [a long-discontinued Kellogg's brand] offered a series of water-applied decals within its boxes. Most likely made by the Meyercord Company (one of America's largest transfer decal manufacturers at the time), one decal in particular had an alphabet in gold letters with black outlines. (One can only presume the marketing strategy was to have kids bug their parents to buy more Pep cereal if the child needed more than one letter of the alphabet for his or her initials!) Those decal letters have inspired a digital version as the outline character font Toy Decals JNL, which is available in regular oblique, solid and solid oblique styles.

Designed in 1928 by Alessandro Butti under the direction of Raffaello Bertieri for the Nebiolo foundry, Paganini defies standard categorization. While it definitely is a classic foundry text face with obvious roots in the "oldstyle" of the Italian renaissance, its contrast reveals a clear underlying modern influence. In a typical Italian artistic fashion, Paganini manages to be a superb text face while having enough priceless ornamental moments to make it great in display uses as well: Check out the splayed M, the wide-tailed g, the flowing tail on the y, the high-armed k, etcetera. While the original metal version was limited to five basic fonts, this digital expansion includes small caps in the three main upright weights, plenty of alternate forms in all fonts, a super-seductive Open font, and an expanded language support covering the majority of Latin-based languages.

Ralph M. Unger, (Arno Drescher), 2006, (1936) Originally, Arabella Pro was designed by Arnold Drescher around 1936/1939. Drescher created this wonderful script for former Germany type foundry Joh. Wagner. The typeface has been redesigned, digitized, completed and expanded as OpenType Pro in the profonts studio.Arabella Pro comes in two versions, light and medium, each with a large selection of manually designed ligatures and alternates, i.e. swashed upper case to make this naturally flowing script design a perfect font for OTF-savvy applications like e.g. InDesign or Quark Xpress 7.Arabella Pro light and medium are perfect partners for any sans serif, especially for Futura. It is perfectly suited for anything in the area of headlines, posters, invitations etc. However, since it is very well legible, it can also be used individually for small text blocks.

Police JNL was modeled from one of the many fonts created by the late Alf Becker exclusively for Signs of the Times magazine during the 1930s through the 1950s. This was a bit of a difficult design to translate into a digital font file, because the individual characters did not follow a formal structure as to the width and length of the cast shadows or the letter shapes—such is the way of the hand-lettered alphabet. Special thanks to Tod Swormstedt of ST Publications (and curator of the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati) for providing the archival material to work from in creating this font. Police JNL has a limited character set. The basic A-Z character is on the upper and lower case keys, along with numbers, some punctuation and the dollar and cents signs.
