Towards the end of the 1400s, in Lyon (France), was living Barthélémy Buyer, descendant of a rich family of merchants. In the end of 1472, he engaged a typographist from Liège (Belgium): Guillaume Le Roy. The first book stemming from their print shop was the Compendium breve ( by Pope Innocent III.) using Blackletter “textura”. Many books followed, most often illustrated with wood carving. In 1483, to print a French translated “Eneide”, they used a venetian “Rotunda” blackletter. Our font was inspired by this “Rotunda” set, with historical forms and ligatures enriched with accented letters and other characters not existing in the original.

A Tartufo is a truffle in Italian. I have to admit, I have never eaten one, so I couldn’t really tell you if they’re any good. I suppose they are, but you’ll have to find that out for yourselves! Tartufo font is a bit of a weird font. It was hand made with a rollerball pen on some very expensive French paper. As I was drawing each glyph, I figured I might as well include Cyrillic and Greek. Tartufo is not a text font - I’d use it for packaging, posters, book covers and T-shirts. Comes with a whole bunch of diacritics!

In the wake of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution there was a desire for a clear classical blackletter font without frills. That is why in 1793 the famous printer and editor Johann Friedrich Unger and his partner Johann Christian Gubitz accomplished their own fraktur. Now you will be able to use both regular and bold styles of this highly readable blackletter font. It is recommended to activate both OT features Standard and Discretionary Ligatures to access all ligatures in both these fonts. Typing N-o-period and activating the ordinal feature gives you the numero sign.

Personally I think a brush font should have the word ‘Brush’ in its name. It’s not that easy finding a name - you need some magic to come up with a good one! Magical Brush is a completely handmade font. I used a small brush (a number 3 to be precise) and Chinese Ink. I wanted just a little ‘erosion’, so I used copier paper rather than my expensive French water color paper (which is quite rough). Magical Brush comes in the normal variant and a chickenpox one. Use it for your posters, your book covers and your Christmas invitations!

Valenteena is in the spirit of the 19th century, but there are no other typefaces quite like it. It is geometric, using distorted hearts to form the letters. The lower-case letters are smaller versions of the upper-case letters. The overlay variant is derived by breaking ValentinaContour into its parts: the inner letter, the white inner border, and the black outer border. To use them one must have a program that allows layers of letters. Type in and format the inside variant to get the message you want. Also select the color you want this layer to have. Copy this layer twice, formatting one to the medium and and the other to outside. Color each of them in the colors you want and them combine the three layers, placing them so the letters exactly align. You will get letters with three colors.

Column Sans, talking about space efficiency. The character set that condensed can maximize the use of limited space without losing good legibility aspects. The typeface is very appropriate to be used as a text in a small column widths, display text, caption, title, author credit on the film, etc. Column Sans is available in OpenType format in the three weights Light, Regular, and Bold, whereby there are corresponding italics for all variants. In the same narrow italic versions, the "a" has a closed form while the "f" has a descender. Besides of standard ligature, this typeface is also equipped with some additional ligature and deligature like "fr", "tt", "cb", "ch", "ck" and so on as well as three "stylistic ligature": "the", "Mr" and "Mrs". Naïve Inline is a layered serif handwritten font designed by Fanny Coulez and Julien Saurin in Paris. Our goal was to draw a font with finely irregular lines that give a human and whimsical feeling. We designed three weights to assure a good readability whatever the size. They can be enhanced with five different interior patterns and three shadows to improve your designs and bring a charming and unusual feeling. To do so, you can simply superimpose the layers with a compatible software like Photoshop, the weight above and the pattern(s) below, then choose a color for each. Altivo is a proper workhorse sans serif. Sixteen OpenType fonts in eight weights (with true Italics) range from Thin to Ultra. Meticulous care was taken to ensure high legibility in text sizes on the screen. The typeface is designed to have wide proportions, generous x-height, loose spacing, ink traps, large apertures and low stroke contrast. Altivo’s ink traps are not only a functional design feature, they also look interesting and lend character to the typeface in headlines. Hellenic Typewriter is a slab serif for text and display, combining the typewriter aesthetic's balance of elegance and pragmatism with some of the extended western flavour of Hellenic Wide. Rounded strokes, some unorthodox slab details and playful, looping tails all add to Hellenic Typewriter’s warmth and approachability, while its typewriter-inspired proportions and clean forms provide rythym and an honest, confident voice. The lightest weights, laying bare the simple, partly-geometric and optically-monolinear construction, embody an assertive elegance. Ball terminals feature extensively throughout the design, in both lower and uppercase. This miroring of details creates a greater harmony between the cases and ensures that the true character of Hellenic Typewriter is not lost when setting in all-caps. Expressive true italics elaborate upon and emphasise some of the freer, more decorative elements of the roman styles.

Zt Shago is a font family of 3 eye-catching display forms, each style has its own character, from very strong and soft angles. Allister Rough is a handmade font family based on Oldstyle English and Transitional fonts, modern typography and lettering. It’s a kit of joyful fonts that can be used for cards, posters, books, t-shirts, etc. Allister Rough has three font Styles and Extras. “Decor 1” is an expressive font which has three sets for each letter. “Decor 2” has two sets and “Caps” has Capital letters and Small Capitals. So you can choose what you need or combine Styles to create different typography compositions. All contextual alternates are built into the ‘Liga’ feature and duplicated into the ‘Calt’ feature. Hand drawn serif typeface designed for one of our books. You can use just the regular style or set the fill style over the stroke style to get a more colorful version. It has upper and lowercase characters with up to three alternate glyphs. Build in OpenType Contextual Alternates feature will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers). The script doesn’t throw random glyphs (so it won't break the layered, two colored version). For example in the word “HIPPOPOTAMUS” you will automatically get three different “P” glyphs and two “O” glyphs. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand. Mr Anteater has younger sister. Mrs Ant was designed for side notes in the same book.

I’d been thinking for a while about making a serif font with ball terminals: big fun round ends to the letters anywhere I can squeeze them in. So I made Breakfast Pastry! I started with a hand-drawn set of basic letters, then went hog-wild making alternates and ligatures galore with fun swirls, curls, and even more balls! I’ve cleaned the letters up significantly to make them smooth and easy for any cutting or printing you may want to do, but I’ve also left in some of the hand-drawn character so that the letters are warmer and not too formal. Then I took the first font, and made a second solid version without the cutouts. After that I thought: I tend to make plumper fonts ... why not make an even thinner version? So I did! All three versions have the same character set (over 700 glyphs total), which means they all have the same extras and alternates. All three fonts have over 300 extended Latin characters for language support, as well as over 200 bonus items: alternate letters, letters with swashes, two-letter ligatures, small caps, catchwords, and even some bonus ornaments and elements to make the fonts even more flexible. (After all, if one swash on a letter is good, two or three might be great!)

Lyra is an Italian Renaissance script that might have developed if metal type had not broken the evolution of broad pen calligraphy. It lies in the area between the humanist bookhand and the chancery cursive, combining the fullness and articulation of the Roman letters with a moderate italic slant and condensation. A steep pen-angle allows use of a broader pen relative to the x-height, giving the letters more contrast with light verticals and heavy curves. Lyra embodies the Renaissance spirit of refining technical advances of the late middle ages with reintroduction of ancient classical principles. Based on the moving penstroke with constantly changing pen-angle, it brings the vitality of handwriting to the ordered legibility of type. Lyra is a formal italic, too slow for copying books. By eliminating the element of speed, digital technology opens up a new level of calligraphy, bringing it into the sphere of typography as would naturally have happened if metalworkers had not controlled the process. If classical Western traditions are respected, digital calligraphy has the potential to recapture the work of the past and restart its stalled evolution. There is of course no substitute for the charm of actual writing, with each letter made for its space; but the tradeoff is for the formal harmony of classical calligraphy as every curve resonates in tune with every other. This three-weight font family marks Philip Bouwsma's much-requested return from a three year hiatus. It also reminds us of his solid vision in regards to how calligraphy, typography and technology can interact to produce digital beauty and vesatility. Each of the three Lyra fonts contains almost three character sets in a single file. Aside from the usual wealth of alternates normally built into Bouwsma's work, Lyra offers two unique features for the user who appreciates the availability of handy solutions to subtle design space issues: At least three (and as many as six) length variations on ascending and descending forms, and 65 snap-on swashes which can be attached to either end of the majuscules or minuscules. Chameleon consists of 16 fonts based on 3 completely different designs. Different but specially designed to complement each other. Axiforma was designed with the single idea of creating a font that starts with the letter A, because let's face it, this is the best letter. Techarí comes from a commission in which the brief consisted of the creation of a typeface family to be used for the design of the third disc of the band called Ojos de Brujo based in Barcelona. This disc was called Techarí, which means “free” in Caló, the language of the Spanish gypsies. The starting point of the design was the music of this band, the meaning of the disc 's name, and three words given by the band as key concepts: ethnic, baroque and graffiti. Techarí is a mixture of lots of influences, which give it its unique personality. From its technical viewpoint designing Techarí was a challenge, on the one hand it had to have lots of personality, and on the other it had to work in text at 9 or 10 pt size. Its goal is precisely that, while keeping a strong personality it works in text size. The typeface also contains a Stencil version for use in display sizes which keeps Techarí's innovative spirit. The way it has been “cut" is unconventional, it has been carefully done to keep the freshness of the typeface by taking advantage of the letterforms' flow. Techarí extra complements the typeface by taking a classical typographic form, the ornament, and making it a contemporary graphic tool, vindicating this wonderful typographic element.

This font was inspired by the paint brushed letters in use in the 60 - 70s for protest slogans tagged on the cities walls. In those days, we didn't commonly use aerosols like today, so we used paint brushes, with paint or tar cans, drew the letters, and ran away quickly ! Capitals and lower case have the same size, and a lot of alternates characters or ligatures allows the user to vary each letter (until tree alternates for single letters) in each word of a text . Likewise, the words may be easily underscored or intersected by a few stains looking like paint spots, substituted to the following standards characters: [greater], [less], [dagger], [backslash], [bullet], and [underscore].

Most of the characters in this font were drawn on a napkin with a felt marker, and the resulting ragged texture was very suitable to the Halloween subject matter. Where the same stroke is repeated in one glyph, the contours have been edited to minimize obvious repetition. Use it for your Halloween party invitations and posters. Lately I feel reluctant to watch the news: The Amazon Forest is burning, Australian forests are burning, palm oil controversy… It really brings tears to my eyes to see all this destruction around me. It is like people hate nature with a vengeance - I cannot explain it otherwise. I made this font to take my mind off things. It was loosely based on Futura, a font I really like. Understory was completely made by hand. It comes with some cute upper case swashes and a whole bunch of diacritics. The good thing is: no trees were cut down or burned to make this font; in fact, I donated a nice amount of $ to help save the rainforests!

Hokitika is a township in the West Coast Region of New Zealand's South Island. It has some amazing beaches, stunning scenery, but above all, it has Pounamu (greenstone or jade).
