Fille de Joie is a distressed typewriter font created from a vintage typewriter that a friend of mine bought in Paris. It’s pretty dirty and nasty. Included are open type ligatures for all of the double letters like “EE” “TT” “FF” etc. to give the font a more natural look.

A faux Thai font - but not over the top, just stylishly hinting at the foreign script. I have introduced lots of alternate glyphs, so it now has both lower- and uppercase letterfoms. Perfect for that travel brochure, ad or restaurant menu - in many languages. Vic Fieger simply says: "A font based on a boldface sign in Thai". Once, Blackletter was a calligraphy style. Full of ligatures, with letters bumping into each other to create an unapologetic picket-fence pattern. Some even claimed that the regularity improved legibility! But then Blackletter was cast into metal, and only a handful of established ligatures survived, while most interletter connections were disentangled. Everyone since followed suit, and hundreds of years later, digital Blackletter fonts were modelled mostly on the metal fonts that prevailed rather than the original handwriting. Up until now! AJ Quadrata is an authentic revival of the textura quadrata hand, and its major inspiration is a 15th-century Latin manuscript of the Bible from Zwolle, the Netherlands. The typeface is delivered in two flavors. The default cut is a modern take on textura quadrata that can be useful for today and tomorrow. The standard ligatures feature employs nearly all letters. The tittle of i retains its original, hasty squiggle form (except for the Turkish localization). Discretionary ligatures include medieval ligatures da, de, do, pa, pe, po (and their mixed-case counterparts!). Stylistic sets allow to use historic letter variants such as long s and rotunda r, closed-counter a, and alternate capitals. AJ Quadrata Medieval is perfect for setting Latin. Default forms of capital F, H and O are swapped with the alternates. The squiggles above i only appear for disamibiguation nearby m, n or u, as in original manuscripts. Discretionary ligatures and historic variants are promoted to the standard ligatures feature to make room in the discretionary ligatures feature for a variety of scribal abbreviations. Dedicated stylistic sets include medieval punctuation and justification alternates — glyphs with elongated terminals used for lengthening lines that end up too short. The Rubrum styles can be layered and colored to create the illuminated effect on the capital letters. Besides a faithful rendition of extended Latin including Vietnamese, numerous synthetic additions are included: polytonic Greek, Armenian, and Cyrillic (with Bulgarian and Serbian/Macedonian localizations). We have transformed the “99 names of ALLAH” into a font. That means each key on your keyboard represents 1 of the 99 names of ALLAH Aaza Wajal. The fonts work with both the English and Arabic Keyboards. We call this Calligraphy "Compact" because as you can see everything is very close and decorative symbols are at a maximum. The first "alef" has neither a "hamzit wasel" nor a "fatha", this indicates to skip that first alef so instead of saying "AR-RAHMAAN" you say "R-RAHMAAN". (in the zip file you will find a pdf file explaining the differences in the "harakat", pronunciation and spelling according to the Holy Quran). The calligraphy is anything but traditional & we have used all the decorative letters except for the "Ye". This lively script is based on a handlettered offering from The Hunt Brothers, which they called simply "Ornamental Italic". Ornamental, yes, but there’s also a lot of action and attitude in this typeface. Please note that, due to the extreme slant of the characters, spacing in the font has been optimized for upper- and lowercase use. Both versions of this font contain complete Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Grafinc is fat, black and robust. It is a geometric-based display typeface that comes in two cuts: ExtraBlack and Rounded. Grafinc can be used for all types of media – print, web, broadcasting or games. Despite its robust appearance and display character, Grafinc is very friendly typeface. It appears to be very legible in smaller sizes, too. The cuts include some very fine ligatures, making its appearance very rhythmic and smooth. Available in OpenType and western languages.

Lewis F. Day, in his book Alphabets Old and New, offered this typeface as an example from sixteenth-century England of lettering incised in wood. The font is essentially monocase, but there several lowercase letters are alternate letterforms. Please note that, due to the ornate nature of the letterforms, this font does not contain math operators, fractions or superior numbers. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin and 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan) character sets.

An extremely versatile, intelligently restrained design by Robin Nicholas for Monotype in 1980. It works very well at small sizes thanks to its large x-height, sturdy serifs, and lack of ornament; yet it is not characterless. Nimrod has been used successfully in national newspapers and books. (The Guardian, London, from its late-1980s redesign until it was replaced by a Carter interpretation of Miller in 1998; the Concise Oxford English Dictionary in the typographically unsurpassed 1990 edition.)

Kanna Aoki had fairy tales in mind when she designed MVB Greymantle. She drew dots with a felt pen to build up the forms, giving them their particular rough character. The “Extras” font contains a set of whimsical illustrations, including a portrait of Greymantle—her 18-pound cat, a set of curly initial caps, and border parts.  MVB Greymantle has been spotted on numerous children's books, in magazines, in salad dressing advertisements, and on food packaging.

At home, we don’t drink soft drinks at all. Maybe sometimes, when one of the kids has a birthday party, but we normally don’t have a stash of the stuff. We have cordial, or, as wel call it in Holland: limonadesiroop (‘Lemonade Syrup’). There you go, another font name xplained! Today Syrup was made with a marker pen and a lot of paper! Buttered Toast is something a lot of people enjoy every day; when I was working on this font I was hoping to create something similar: an uncomplicated font enjoyed by many. The resulting typeface is exactly what is promised on the package: Buttered Toast is unobtrusive, yet quite refined. It may even be taken for granted, but I sure hope it will be used and enjoyed by many. Buttered Toast comes with a generous helping of diacritics.

Jason Uncial, a unicase font, was created by Dutch designer Coen Hofmann. Uncial hand writing began to spread in Europe at the time of the late Roman Empire (200 A.D.). It influenced both the Carolingian Minuscule as well as our present lower case letter forms. Uncial fonts are still very much in use. It is used for headlines, display, titles, certificates, and not surprisingly, very much in Ireland or for anything with a Gaelic/Irish or Celtic touch.

UUeirdie is weird. The Condensed-Light style was derived from the star-serifed font Asterx by replacing the star serifs with a rounded flare serif. Widening that style resulted in UUeirdie-Regular and the bold was then constructed to complement it. The warped version was a result of play with a font distortion program. Although the glyphs have sharp corners, they do not have straight lines. The UUeirdie faces are rough, irregular, and maybe a bit creepy.

Neonoir is an homage to neon lettering craftsmanship of the mid 20th century. The beautiful futuristic grace of wall-sized bent-glass hand-writing is distilled into a three-weight connected script that’s on the button for headlines, logo­type and branding designs. Its Slim and Bold weights are formal monoline scripts, while the medium weight mimics the rough edges of ink on paper. Neonoir is available as an Open Type font that features alternate endings and lots of ligatures.

"Hockeynight Sans Rough" is the Letterpress version of my font "Hockeynight Sans". It's a contemporary college-sports font with the little twist – that its a misprinted grunge font. Gothic 13 is a bold condensed sans serif typeface. Originally designed in small sizes, Gothic 13 is very similar to Modern Gothic Condensed, which was a turn-of-the-20th-century modernization of a popular nineteenth century style. Until Linotype integrated it into their technology, it did not exist in sizes larger than 24 point. The design used for digitization was the 18-point. Once upon a time (a.ka. 1984), there was a Goth band who called themselves "Hemingway's Shotgun." As a symbol of his commitment to this band, the bass player acquired a tattoo of a shotgun on his forearm. Unfortunately, this tattoo wasn't very well drawn: the barrel was much too short, and was much thinner at one end than the other. The tattoo rather resembled a small, cordless, rechargeable hand-held vacuum cleaner. Thus, the band "Hemingway's Dustbuster" was born.

MVB Fantabular proves that monospaced faces needn’t be formal or bland. Inspired by the letterforms of older typewriters, Akemi Aoki designed a playful family of three weights with italics. With every character the same width MVB Fantabular works wherever a monospaced font is needed, but the face is so loose and carefree it hides its fixed pitch construction well, allowing it to be used in other settings too. A sans serif version—MVB Fantabular Sans—is also available.

I have been making some clean, connected fonts lately and when I was working on another one of these, I felt the need for something chaotic. So, Scapegoat was born. I used a round nibbed steel pen and Chinese ink and the result is quite a messy font. It may look chaotic, but as Nietzsche once said: ‘from chaos comes order’. Amen to that! Comes with double letter ligatures for the lower case and a whole lot of diacritics.

Downward Fall owes its name to one of my favorite Opeth songs, called The Funeral Portrait. The song itself is an uptempo metal composition with rather dark lyrics. This peculiar combination, a mix of good and evil if you will, is what characterizes Downward Fall font: the brushwork is quick, giving the impression of speed. The undertone is darker, scarier - lots of jaggedness and decay. Downward Fall font comes with a 20.000 foot drop of diacritics.
