Zarlino is an original typeface in the Blackletter style. It does not solidly adhere to any of the historical Blackletter classifications, but draws from all of them, with some characters owing more to the Roman than the Fraktur. Zarlino Delux includes three complete sets of upper case, ranging from the simple to the embellished to the even more embellished, two complete sets of lower case, and two more sets of embellished alternates for selected lower case characters. These alternates are available through Stylisitic Sets in OpenType aware applications. For use in non-OpenType aware applications, Zarlino Delux comes with a set of separate, standard fonts, one for each style. These standard fonts are also available for individual purchase. Zarlino was named by my cousin, a musician. Gioseffo Zarlino was a sixteenth century composer and musical theorist. Among other things, he offered detailed advice on the setting of words to music. With its blends of the old and the new, the simple and the ornate, Zarlino is suitable for many uses, from the elegant to the aggressive.

Here is a wonderfully charming typeface similar in style to the folklore lettering created by Walter Crane, the prolific children’s book illustrator. This English artist created many beautiful, flower-decorated works during the Arts and Crafts movement that flourished between 1860 and 1910. English Garden SG Regular contains many of Crane’s original whimsical and quirky characters. Note the inclusion of a spurred capital G, a squat lowercase g, a bending floral lowercase d, and the quaint old style figures. With Advertisers Gothic, SoftMaker revives a 1917 design by Robert Wiebking. Inspired by Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) lettering, this typeface is as fresh as it was back then and is well-suited for advertising and display work.

Introducing our new modern signature font "Agatha Bergman". We would say that "Agatha Bergman" is a result of our latest experiment since a few new things have been done: "Agatha Bergman" is a voguish sophisticated signature-style script with three different uppercase alternatives for each letter and a unique short swash for each lowercase letter. We usually used to make long and wavy swashes, however, that's not the case this time. Also, the stylistic alternates were coded as both ligatures and swashes so that turning on the “Standard ligatures” was enough to access them. The font includes 152 fancy standard ligatures and 6 discretionary ligatures, and while working on them we tried to consider those letter combinations that are often met in surnames, e.g. -ovsky.

I'm always experimenting with new ideas for display fonts. I took the inside counter of a capital 'O', divided it into quarters, and applied an outline stroke to all the elements. By removing two quarters of the inside counter I had the beginnings for an interesting new design. Of course, the hard part was getting all the other letters in the alphabet to work well together using this approach. It's often a labor of love trying to shape an idea into a new typeface. I find the entire process stimulating and rewarding.
