Peter started as a sketch in the static sans-serif tradition of Helvetica®. Then slight references to the calligraphic origin of type were added, giving it a more distinct character. This neo-grotesque sans has rational and clear basic letterforms, while in its details it unfolds attributes of humanist type. As a neo-grotesque sans it claims a very modest design, yet being a bit wider than its relatives and offering the warmth of humanist drafts. The early sketch grew to a type family of 18 fonts and now supports 700+ glyphs with pro opentype features.

I used to be a tour guide and I traveled to China numerous times. Usually, the itinerary mentioned going to a restaurant in Beijing and eating ‘Beijing Roast Duck’ (北京烤鸭), a famous dish that has been prepared since the Imperial era. Typically, the whole duck is sliced at your table. The skin is crisp, glazed and thin and you should eat it with thin pancakes and thinly sliced spring onion. Of course, if I had to guide several ‘China tours’ in a row, I would often eat something else (there is only so much Beijing Duck you can eat). Peking Duck is a nice, handmade, Chinese Ink font. The thing is that many sans-serif typefaces are usually intended for universal usage. But sometimes faces that work fine in body text look not so good in large point sizes for display purposes when all the contrast in non-contrast sans-serif, or ink traps, become visible to the naked eye. Every designer solves this problem in his own way. We offer a drastic solution in our Stem: a sans-serif with optical sizing. The first part of the type family, Stem Display, is for use in largest point sizes, from 36 pt indefinitely. Stem Display consists of 12 faces of widths from Hairline to Bold, and it has true italics. The development of Stem type family will include Stem Text for body text and “traditional”, universal use, and Stem Caption for small point sizes. Stem is a geometric sans-serif with semi-closed aperture, large x-height and modern proportions of uppercase letters, like in famous Avenir and Gotham. I have upgraded my existing font software and also bought new font software to play around with. It takes some time getting used to working with it; the upgraded software feels similar to what I am used to, but handles things differently and the new software is intuitive, but comes with its own language and ways of doing things. I spend most days reading the handbooks and watching online tutorials, but I did manage to create a font. Steamed is a hand drawn all caps display font that comes with a whole bunch of accented glyphs (even Vietnamese) to play around with.

Stars is a decorative font, that consists of 52 ornamental stars, placed on the letters a-z and A-Z. The building principle is based on the segment of a circle. All the individual stars have the same width and are aligned to the same center.
