Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

A "tunesmith" is one so nicknamed because the person or persons craft (compose) a song from scratch. When the area of Broadway known as Tin Pan Alley was in its heyday, every music publisher's office would have sounds emanating from the various cubicles of men and women trying for the next big hit. Sheet music was the main source of songwriter's royalties during those days, and to please the general public with a song destined to be a popular piece was a lofty goal. It's then only fitting that the lettering inspired by a 1920s-era piece of sheet music for a song called "Jerry" would be named Tunesmith JNL.

L-O-L-A Like the subject of the Kinks’ song, FS Lola is a little bit of both – a font with a rare combination of masculine and feminine. The font was inspired by the song, which itself was inspired by the night the Kinks’ manager spent dancing drunkenly in a Soho club with a beautiful woman... Or so he’d thought, until her stubble started to show halfway through the evening. Masculine/feminin Phil Garnham’s experience in designing FS Lola was similar to the one related by Ray Davies. Setting out to create a sans serif font, he realised along the way that he was actually dealing with a semi-serif. He went with it, though, and produced a font with the best masculine and feminine qualities: hard edges and corners tempered by shapes of softness and generosity, the outcome of what Phil calls an “organic” design process. “Initially, my designs were very graphic and hard but not very distinctive. By printing and redrawing the letters in pencil I achieved a softer and friendlier alphabet with a strong personality.” Broad Lola, as you’d expect, is very broad-minded. Sheet music featuring a song from the 1933 film "Torch Singer" starring Claudette Colbert was the basis for Dine and Dance JNL. A multi-line Art Deco design, it epitomizes both the typographic style and the night life of the time, when supper clubs featuring big bands were at their peak. Torch Singers were female vocalists who typically sang melancholy love songs of lost love and heartbreak.

An ad spotted in a 1960 issue of Billboard magazine promoting a 45 rpm release by Randy Lee doing the old song "Did You Ever See A Dream Walking?" featured the song title in a casual, brush lettered style. While the ad made a perfect model for a digital font design, the record itself tanked. Quick Titling JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Tea And Oranges is a line from Leonard Cohen’s song Suzanne. “She feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China”… The song was a favourite of my brother Rizja who, sadly, recently passed away.
