Muscle came from the original sketches for Sneakers. At the time my concentration with Sneakers was to create a curvier, chunkier display. I left Muscle behind, thinking it was too masculine. Rather than discard those original sketches, I decided to make it even heavier, reduced the total number of weights, create a function small cap system that when integrated with the lowercase makes a great biform component for short display settings.

QUIPO is a typeface based on my recent survey (Freeflow) on hand drawn logotypes used by American and English pop groups in the 60-70s. When Patricia Lillie was growing up, she thought the coolest thing in the world would be finding her own name listed in a library catalog. My first typeface designs were based on lettering I'd done while working for a library, doing graphics work for the children's section," she explains. Our eye is able to join missing parts of worn letters back into undisturbed shapes. We tend to see things better than they really are.
