Maria Martina Schmitt was born in Vienna, Austria in 1950. Since 1998, she has been working as a freelance designer, focusing on cultural collateral, economic publications, illustration, type design, and logo design. Airam blends contemporary legibility with historic blackletter forms, creating a contemporary text face that speaks to the old European past. Airam certainly appears darker than most other contemporary text faces. Airam’s letterforms are slightly broken, too. They display angled joints in lieu of smooth curves. This “broken” aspect actually aids legibility at smaller point sizes. While Airam may not be suitable for setting whole books or newspapers, this font will add a splendid touch to short tracts of small text. Additionally, Airam looks superb in large headlines.

The idea of Transport originates from text found on the large wooden boxes used for transport. Such text is still stencilled on them in the same way as the companies have done for decades, at least. That explains the typeface's name, too. If you find some similarities with Devin, you are right. Transport is nothing other than a special variant of Devin. But since the two are aimed for totally different uses, I decided to use two different names for them. Transport is a mecane and its use is primarily as a headline typeface. But in small quantities it can be used even for body setting, if special effects are desired. Transport was released in 1994.

Simple - The Bilingual Font. The process of Simple began with the usual alphabets followed by a series of icons and soon it was an avalanche of Chinese characters. The pool of proposed Chinese characters were loosely determined by the needs of a lunar calender. In a nutshell, Simple is a single-weight, minimal, grid-based Sans-serif display. Prudent with details and sturdy in form, the geometrically-driven structure marks the foundation of a cross-cultural assortment of Latin alphabets, Chinese characters and thematic icons. In the last years our society has change a lot. Nowadays cities and countries are no longer static territories with well-drawn borders and a population perfectly defined. Globalization is a fact and the best consequence of it is the mixture of races, ideas and cultures, and this is exactly what this typography aims to show. Albollón is at once a semi-serif and a semi-sans serif typeface; it is a mixture made with the best parts from both sides. This way is how I understand a healthy society and a healthy design too. Albollón is designed to work in all types of text, both long and shorts, big and small ones.

A Colporteur is a peddler of books, newspapers, and similar literature. When I was young, we often got visits from colporteurs - mostly they wanted to sell us a very expensive encyclopedia. I haven’t seen them for a while - the internet probably killed their trade, as there are numerous free encyclopedias out there. Colporteur font won’t try to sell you stuff - it basically sells itself. It is a jolly serif family of 6 styles plus a very useful doodle style full of arrows. Use it to sell your encyclopedia online, write a book and use if for the cover or create a ‘hunt the colporteur’ game. Comes with an encyclopedic knowledge of diacritics too!

An open-hearted humanist sans-serif. Playful and friendly. Faible is everybody’s darling. You cannot not like this good-natured humanist typeface. Hollenbeck JNL is the Art Deco, all-caps cousin of Jeff Levine's Hallandale JNL typeface. This version utilizes the thick-and-thin stroke weights so popular during the Art Deco era, while retaining the look of hand-lettered copy. Stefan Claudius developed this font while he was sitting in a small chalet in Denmark with a hot wood-oven and nothing but snow outside. Probably the amount of white led him to make it so thin and to have as much space between the lines as possible. If you have that in mind, it looks best in large sizes.

Dialog is my first sans serif. I had made some attempts earlier, but they didn't satisfy me. Dialog was, on the contrary, so inspiring that I made 19 different fonts of it, the most complete typeface for several years. I usually prefer typefaces with serifs, but I don't miss them in Dialog. The name needs no explanation. Dialog was released in 1993.

While strolling through the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, I came across a delightful painting by Wassily Kandinsky entitled “Succession”. Many of the forms seemed to me typographic so, of course, a font followed, and this is it: wild, wacky and delightfully different. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin and 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan) character sets.
