My new family is very readable despite it beeing top heavy, thin on the low end and thick on the upper end. The font gets a special shine because of this effect. Bonhomme Richard evokes the cursive penmanship of Chevalier John Paul Jones (1747–1792), celebrated Continental Navy commander during the American Revolution, in letters from the late 18th century. The font’s name comes from Jones’s famous frigate, lost during his victorious engagement with the British in the Battle of Flamborough Head in 1779. During this battle Jones is said to have exclaimed, when urged to surrender, “I have not yet begun to fight!” (In fact, his likely words were, “I may sink, but I’ll be damned if I strike!” – i.e., surrender.) The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast is a 70's concept album/rock opera by Deep Purple's Roger Glover. The music video to Love Is All, featuring a lute playing frog in a cape, must be one of the best videos ever made. At least, I believe so. When working on this font, the song popped up in my head (it is still there), so I decided to name this cute, cartoonish font after the album. Butterfly Ball is a fun and happy typeface with rounded glyphs and an uneven baseline. Of course it comes with a hallucinatory range of diacritics.
