I used to be an exchange student in Canada. I noticed my handwriting was quite different from the handwriting of people who are from countries where the roman alphabet is used. A couple of weeks ago, I found my ink well, which I thought I had lost. I decided (there and then) to create a bunch of inky brush fonts, which resulted in Dirrrty and Scrawny Cat. And now, needless to say, Garden Bed. It is named after a strophe from one of my favorite Soundgarden songs: Just Like Suicide. Garden Bed is a hand made didone-ish font, with a very irregular baseline, some interesting glyphs and a secret garden filled with diacritics.

I have a lot of options to choose from, and it's hard to decide. For example, if I use "Thin" for the body text, I might make the title slightly larger and use "ExLight," and for the headings, I could use "Regular" or something similar. I could also stick to one font weight, like "Light," and differentiate the text using various sizes. Linotype Matthia is part of the Take Type Library, which features the winners of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest from 1994 to 1997. Dieter Kurz designed Matthia as a slender, flowing brush font. I made this font using my index finger and Chinese ink. I thought the ink would come off easily, but I can tell you: it doesn’t. I have been walking around with a black stained finger for a week now and I do get strange looks from people every so often… Fingerfood, of course, is hand made. It is a rather playful font - all caps, but lower and upper case differ and like to mingle. Comes with a full diacritics palette.
