This design was inspired by a laser printout of a corrupt font. I designed the entire character set from a strain of seven infected letters. Virus is surprisingly legible in spite of its distortions so let your imagination run loose with this one.

False Idol is based on bad rub-down lettering from 1970s pornographic magazines and home-made religious leaflets. The letterforms were intended to mimic a feeling of cheap glamour but just became seedy. Somehow an alluring beauty emerges from this mix of sleaze and chic...

Another bit of font inspiration came to the attention of Jeff Levine through his friend Gene Gable. An image of vintage packaging for Aquapruf Ear Drum Protectors (swimmer's ear plugs) offered the narrow and condensed lettering that is the basis for Slim Chance JNL.

Perfume Counter JNL was based on the hand lettered song title found on the 1938 sheet music for "At A Perfume Counter (On the Rue de la Paix)" from Billy Rose's New York revue "Casa Mañana", and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

While strolling through the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, I came across a delightful painting by Wassily Kandinsky entitled “Succession”. Many of the forms seemed to me typographic so, of course, a font followed, and this is it: wild, wacky and delightfully different. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin and 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan) character sets.

Kismet has the look of a modern, ornamental alphabet, but looks are deceiving: the typeface was designed by John F. Cumming in 1879. The basic forms are strictly constructed, most based on the form of a circle, a shape which also appears again and again in the ornamentation. Cumming decorated his figures generously with spiral elements and tiny circles in the middle of the letters. Characteristics which suggest the beginning of the Jugendstil are the floral designs and some individual forms, for example, T, M or P. Small, pointed serifs add a sobering element to all the flowery, oriental decoration. Used sparingly in headlines, the extravagant Kismet will be sure to attract attention.

Bongo drums at the ready! Freeman Craw's archetypal beatnik typeface Ad Lib provided the inspiration for this indubitably eccentric excursion in coolsville typography. Both versions of the font include complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1524 character sets, with localization for Moldovan, Romanian and Turkish.

The font Antique Slabserif JNL was run through a filter to create a design that looks like worn type at smaller settings or jaggedly distressed lettering in larger type heights. The end result is Radio Interference JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Inspired by 15th century Venetian italic book texts and based on examples from volumes on the history of type. Fourteen64 has a rugged charm and lots of character featuring 'Roman' capitals with italic lowercase. Includes alternate characters, extra ligatures and a small selection of medieval ornaments.

Mistral is a loose running script based directly on the handwriting of its designer, Roger Excoffon. His goal was to create a typeface with a true handwritten style, but in this case, the writing looks as though it were done with a brush or heavy felt tip.

Bloktor Mosaik JNL from Jeff Levine was at first a straightforward brick design sent to Typodermic's Ray Larabie for preview. Ray decided to run it through a filter to see what would happen, resulting in a font that emulates the look of cut stone or tile.

Inscription is the work of Alan Meeks, a bold copperplate script with a fine open line running throughout. The relatively restrained initial capitals are complemented by a lowercase which joins together in the style of true handwriting. Inscription will give any text a look of refined elegance.

Martin Crantz (or sometimes Krantz) of the three, including Ulrich Gering and Michael Friburger, that set up a press at the Sorbonne in 1470 was likely the fellow who had the technical know how how to cast the type itself, hence the name of this new face that is based on his work. This font has been expanded to meet the demands of modern day use but it also contains a number of specialized glyphs that allow for the recreation of text in the manner of his day with such characters as the -rum abbreviation and other handy Renaissance oddities. Since this face was designed prior to 1501 there is no italic variant in keeping with the spirit of historical accuracy.

The 1923 Barnhart Brothers & Spindler specimen book called this typeface "Cardstyle", and suggested its use at small sizes for business cards. In 1995, when indie rock hipness was just reaching its pique, Chank was really into Jawbox, a post-punk band from DC. It was their music he was listening to when he made this font for the Space Ghost web site. The band broke up in 1997, but the font named in their honor lives on. This font family includes Jawbox, Jawbox Chanky, and Jawbreaker.

Union Station is based on the transit scroll lettering displayed in Denver’s Union Station. The letter shapes are reminiscent of grotesque sans serif typefaces of the same era with quirky details left by the artist’s brush. The typeface gives a sense of rugged Americana and a handcrafted spirit.

Antique Price Tags JNL is a collection of fifty-two decorative price cards recreating the look and charm of turn-of-the-last-century mercantile shops. The design is a hybrid of the decorative frame and dollar sign of antique price cards spotted in an online auction, and prices modeled from some gummed numerals once made by the Tablet and Ticket Company of Chicago under the brand name “Willson’s Gummed Letters” (after the company’s founder). Also included in the font are blank price cards with only a dollar sign, a cents sign or an empty frame, as well as a solid black frame for creating a backfill color. A companion font is available with the numbers in white on black panel backgrounds.

The inspiration source for Distinto Borders are the Black & White and Running Borders from the 1906 Abridged Keystone Type Foundry Specimen Book. Nine Black & White Borders and Thirteen Running Borders are compiled within this font, all of which can be formatted in various manners to allow maximum versatility. While we've adjusted the metrics in this font, your program of choice may override and use their own settings. Mid Century Sans (MCS) is composed of high-geometric shapes. László Moholy-Nagy —professor in the Bauhaus— said “Typography is a tool of communication. It has to be communication in its most intense form. The emphasis must be on absolute clarity since this distinguishes the character of our own writing from that of ancient pictographic forms.” As same as you can see in modern typefaces in the early twentieth century, MCS has very efficient, clear and minima letterforms.
