Nautica is a new script typeface based on Copperplate’s ductus. High in contrast, it is a very original type with a strong character. Hesster Mofet is what I got after writing with an old and weathered calligraphic marker on textured paper. The characters were smoothened for a clean result, but since the original sketches had such a nice rough, edgy feel to them, they were also made into a complete font set. A couple of ligatures and a Hannibal Lecter reference were thrown in the mix as well. You can get both versions at a discount.

Tuscan X Condensed (whose actual name is Gothic Concave Tuscan Extra Condensed) was first produced in wood type by William H. Page & Company around 1872. The design is derived from a Gothic Condensed typeface, but with vertical stokes bowing inwards at the center. We modified the weight of the uppercase characters (since the original wood type has a lowercase much thinner than the caps) to harmonize with the lowercase when used digitally.

A revival of sorts, Freaky Frog BF is modeled after an 1887 design from Central Type Foundry, called Grimaldi. Much warmth and charm have been instilled into the original design through among other means, reworked contours and serifs. Contours are smoothened, liberated from its roughness, while serifs have become somewhat concave. Verticals and horizontals appear to "swell" owed in part to flared shapes. The overall effect, I believe, is one of pure typographic endearment.

Bavaroir looks like a techno party in the throne room of Neuschwanstein: grandiose, original and still high-tech, modern, stylish and chic? anything but lifeless. The design experiment was to create a sans serif based on ?dropping endings?. Something between elegance and protest, Bavaroir coquettishly hides its edges. Although pretty narrow in design, Bavaroir still flows easily, openly and well readably, even in very small sizes. Bavaoir was designed for the URW++ FontForum.

BAR SADY is a revival of a typeface based on famous lettering from "BAR SADY". The project was implemented as part of the Warsaw Participatory Budget 2023. Mateusz Machalski & Małgorzata Bartosik were responsible for the new digital version of the typeface. In the first phase, the original lettering was lifted, then extended to a full set of characters (A-Z). Finally, the bold style was created. The whole family is available under a free license.

An original text and display type family was designed for ParaType in 2007 by Manvel Shmavonyan. The face was named after the designer’s wife. This is an open sans serif font with soft letterforms distinguished by rounded details resembling rudimentary serifs. The family contains true italics developed like in humanist sans serif fonts. Susan is well suited for short and middle range text composing as well as for use in advertising and display typography.

In 1937, Morris Fuller Benton designed Empire, titling capitals that became the headline style for Vogue magazine. In 1989, David Berlow revived it for Publish magazine, adding an italic and a lowercase, both unavailable in the original. In 1999, Jeff Levine released a freeware font called "Channel Tuning JL" scanned from drawings made with a felt tip marker and designed as if the letters were breaking up due to poor reception such as on pre-digital TV sets. The Janson font was based on the matrices made for the typeface in the 17th century. It originated from the Dutch typeface designer Anton Janson and was cut by Nicholas Kis. The strong main strokes and fine hair strokes were influenced by the art of copper engraving. Doire is a monowidth font based on the face used on the old Royal Gaelic manual typewriter. Doire Royal is a “rough” version of that font. Doire was first digitized in 1993 by Michael Everson and originally used the MacGaelic character set on the Macintosh platform, and ISO/IEC 8859-14 on the PC. In 2008 Doire version 3 was released in OpenType format, completely compliant with Unicode encoding and with an extended character set.

ITC Eastwood is the work of British designer Martin Archer and is named for Clint Eastwood. Archer was looking for a plain oldstyle typeface with open lower case forms and used Stempel Garamond as his starting point, although the result ended up well beyond its origins. In small point sizes the typeface looks interestingly rough while at display sizes it looks like a 16th century French typeface and its unique details come forward.

Geogrotesque Expanded Series comes in three widths: Wide, Extended and Expanded, that go between 120% and 200% of the normal width. Since the original Geogrotesque is slightly condensed, the Wide family becomes a good option for texts. Whereas the Extended and Expanded are ideal for display sizes. Lively, friendly and fun. Blackcurrant is derived from a poster campaign Rian Hughes designed for the youthful Japanese woman's outfitters, Yellow Boots. The original logo formed the basis of the Black version; the narrower Squash version was added fro the commercial release. The lower case was added two years later due to popular demand. In 2010 the font was further accessorised with extensive ligatures, made possible with the then-new Opentype technology.

JennerikInfml is a friendly, casual typeface family that has the appearance of neat hand printing. It began as the italics to Jennerik, but I ended up separating it and giving it a different set of upper-case letters. Although its lower-case letters were designed as italics, it was originally published in 1992 with three weights as upright letters without a slant or skew. The revision of 2020 added the oblique or slanted styles.

The name Ratafly is a reference to the origin of the family. It began by blending two very different serifed typefaces, Rataczak and FlyHigh. This unusual Gothic face was found in the 1882 McKellar, Smiths and Jordan specimen book under the name Borussian, a then-current variant of “Prussian”. This version is true to the original, so please note: a few of the uppercase characters—notably E and G—are rather unusual, so proceed with caution. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.
