Oktah Neue is an extended version of a more limited Oktah family. Since its release in 2019, Oktah Neue received two major updates, the most recent in June 2022. The latest version of Oktah Neue is comes in 22 styles as well as one variable font. Oktah Neue inherits the best traits of Oktah—great legibility, simple geometric letters shapes, low contrast across all styles—but also introduces what Oktah fell short of: extensive language support and enhanced OpenType features. While working on Oktah Neue, we strove to create a neutral typeface that would be a workhorse for designers, typographers and other font users alike. Building onto the familiar shapes of Oktah, we tried to make them more neutral, at the same time preserving the unique character of the typeface. Certain characters remained the same, others have undergone a complete transformation, which left them better tailored for the wide implementation range of Oktah Neue. Lapture is based on the Leipziger Antiqua by Albert Kapr, released in 1971 by the East German foundry Typoart. It has been extended and carefully redesigned by Tim Ahrens in 2002-05. The strong calligraphic characteristics are a result of the design process: "The size of the counters and the width of individual characters at small optical sizes were analysed with a steel pen while the letter shapes were designed in larger size with a specially trimmed reed pen. Sometimes the hand is more innovative than the head alone," says Kapr. A unique feature of this font is the introduction of gothic shapes into a latin typeface. "The basic concept is to string together narrow white hexagons as counters and inter-letter spaces, defined by vertical stems and triangular serifs. The interior spaces are at least as important as the strokes that make up the characters." Lapture is an ideal choice if a reference to gothic style is desired, as true black letter types are often too eye-catching and not as legible as latin fonts for unfamiliar readers. "The last few years have seen a number of very elegant typefaces based on the mellow and feminine renaissance model. However, sometimes we require a font that is strong and robust, harmonic yet rigid," says designer Tim Ahrens. JAF Lapture is provided in OpenType format. To go along with the rest, we've created a stencil version of the typeface, in which the location of the incisions changes according to their thickness. In total, the TT Mussels font family consists of 36 faces, which include among other things stylistic alternatives, ligatures, and also implements a broad support for OpenType features: case, frac, ordn, sups, sinf, numr, dnom, onum, tnum, pnum, liga, dlig, salt, ss01. Dynamic contrast is widely implemented in TT Mussels. It is most noticeable in the Black typeface, where the ratio of the thickness of the vertical strokes to the horizontal strokes is approximately two to one. As part of this project, we decided to investigate the influence of a foreign substance and the consequent transformation of the original forms, which ultimately leads to extreme visual changes. The TT Alientz family consists of 3 fonts: grotesque, serif and variable* font. Each font contains more than 470 glyphs. In addition to broad language support (including Cyrillic), the typeface has stylish ligatures, contextual alternates, and old-style figures. Variability in the typeface affects the changes in the overall style of the font—moving the slider to adjust the variable axis, you can go from a laconic grotesque to an extreme serif. TT Alientz Grotesque is a fairly neat hipster grotesque, but with its own small features. In the design of some letters of the grotesque you can find small sharp elements that add uniqueness and character to the font when used in large inscriptions and headings. At the same time, when you use the font in a small size of the size and in text blocks, sharp elements do not greatly affect its readability. The design of some letters of the grotesque is quite peculiar and is intended to emphasize the initial concept of slight 'alienness'. TT Alientz Serif is an 'infected' TT Alientz Grotesque and the result of changes to it. Unlike the grotesque, the serif is dynamic, viscous, ductile and very prickly. Serif has a lot of smooth lines and not quite standard strokes contrast. It can be noted that most serifs in the antiqua are pointed inward, not outward. Leo is an economic magazine and book face meant for use in sizes suitable for immersive reading, with different cuts optimized for different body copy size ranges, like footnotes and legal text. Designed with the explicit intent of relaying information without calling attention to itself, this typeface places itself squarely on the "function" side of the eternal debate about form versus content. The roman Leo fonts were built with as little ornamentation as possible, with wedge serifs, a high x-height and a skeleton somehwat rooted in the designers' reflections on the modern, post-war Dutch archetype. Rather than follow traditional models with entirely different forms, contracted widths and steep slants, the Leo italics deliver naturally subtle emphasis in reading by closely relating to the forms, stance and rhythm of their roman counterparts. K-Block was inspired by a hand-lettered sign by a young lady by the name of Kristina Lee. It captures a light-hearted, youthful feeling and is not intended to be taken too seriously. It was drawn for fun and is fun to use. Its very inconsistency insists on being casual and relaxed. Probably better for a birthday party announcement than a bank letterhead. Can you imagine a Just-For-Fun National Bank? K-Block Solid compliments K-Block and provides a stronger presence when required. For two-color work, K-Block can be layered on top of K-Block Solid to provide a different color outline for a very effective presentation. Bold, muscular, vaguely oriental, Wedge Gothic ML is the original name of this font released by Barnhart Bros. and Spindler of Chicago in 1893. The straight-forward, no-nonsense name tells us exactly what to expect: sans-serif letterforms based on wedge-shaped vertical strokes. The typeface was dropped for awhile -- it does not appear in the 1907 catalog for example -- but reappeared in 1925 as Japanette. What is the opposite of "straight-forward" anyway? Designed by Heinz Konig, Waltari was released by the Rudhard'schen Giesserei of Offenbach A.M., Germany in 1900, and reflects all the flamboyant exuberance of that period. Waltari is a Jugendstil rotunda, combining its blackletter roots with a strong Roman influence in an effort to achieve a broader appeal than the traditional forms. As a rotunda, Waltari is easily read by readers who are not comfortable with the schwabachers and frakturs in common use in German printing. ITC Astro is the typeface that proves you can get your work done while watching cartoons. “It all started as a series of doodles while I was watching The Jetsons,” recalls Sasa Petricic. “The show's impossibly simplistic vision of the twenty-first century cried out for a font that fit into that world -- a world where everyday objects can carry far more fun and personality than they should.” ITC Astro is the first commercial typeface design from Petricic, whose “day job” is working as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Petricic has filed stories from across Canada and around the world for CBC's flagship evening newscast, The National. His reports have also appeared on CNN and BBC Television. Petricic's work as a correspondent and video journalist have taken him to six continents, covering everything from famine and genocide in Africa to the war in Iraq. With such serious matters filling the hours of Petricic's day as a journalist, it's not hard to see why he conceived Astro as a welcome blast of whimsy. “As I began to draw the design,” he says, “I decided that every part of Astro should be a cartoon character unto itself.” Each character has its own baseline shadow (or coaster, or circular antigravity generator, depending on how you look at things). The angular caps dance jauntily, rocking from left to right, while a suite of companion small caps provide backup. The end result is a design quite unlike any other, with surprising charm and versatility. ITC Astro comes in a two-weight family of White and Black.

Anca typeface started as a comission work for Fest Anca, an international animation festival. They needed something to complement the corporate identity of the festival. Inspiration came from a sketch made by my friend long time ago, which had a tremendous potential. As letters were digitized and the basic alphabet was completed, a very practical and universal typeface resulted. The whole type family has a playful and simple look with rounded stroke endings as well as long ascenders. The construction skeleton uses the minimum number of strokes and as a consequence, some original letter shapes (Q, w, j, &, A, §) were produced. Despite the fact that most letter shapes are based on geometry, some strokes are intentionally irregular, which creates a very natural feeling. Anca is appropriate for setting short paragraphs, headings and big inscriptions.

Aphrosine is a font based on pointed pen script. A huge lot of alternatives and smart OpenType features allow it to look almost indistinguishable from real live handwriting. Aphrosine is something between handwriting and calligraphy: it took too much effort for being “just handwriting” but lacks seriousness and regularity comparing to true calligraphic fonts. That’s why it was called after a peculiar character from a children’s book: a witch who was very fond of dressing, makeup and writing letters. Aphrosine has three faces. But unlike most other type families, the glyphs from one face do not match exactly the glyphs from another one. The faces are based on writing with different nibs but by the same hand. The type is designed by Alexandra Korolkova and Alexander Lubovenko and released by ParaType in 2015.

Virginia has a proven track-record. Unashamedly geometric, starkly simple with a touch of art deco/bauhaus/rococo about her, she was the most popular headline face around, at least in my home town in the year of her release circa 1970. That was the year my five-weight design won the inaugural (and only) Lettergraphics International Alphabet design competition and shut out 5000 competitors. Alas, Lettergraphics ceased to trade from its LA studios after the mid-80s and Virginia's two-inch film fonts were left to collect dust on the cutting room floor. Until my recent decision to revive her along with some subtle tweaking, a few additional glyphs and Opentype features, supported by an abundance of kern pairs making Virginia suitable for text or the largest display type.

Marishka Roseville is a luxury and elegant display serif font. Marishka Roseville is well-suited for advertising, branding, logotypes, packaging, titles, headlines and editorial design. This font comes in two styles, Regular and Oblique Version. This font is encoded with Unicode PUA, which allows full access to all additional characters without having special design software. Mac users can use Font Book, and Windows users can use Character Map to view and copy one of the extra characters to paste into your favorite text editor / application. Raclette grills are an ingenious Swiss invention. This tabletop grill is used to cook raclette cheese, a unique sort of cheese produced by the happy cows of Valais. Swiss designer Michael Parson created a typeface in 2002 that speaks endearingly to his hearty homeland tradition - endearingly enough, he named it Raclette. Raclette most likely started out as a bold, condensed sans serif. But then, just as one pulls little trays off of a raclette grill, Parsons quickly removed many rectilinear bits from the edges of each letter. Text set in Raclette looks like an old brick wall, or perhaps like a raclette party for several hundred people, that ended an hour ago! Raclette is one of ten of Michael Parson's experiments in type design featured in the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."
