This font is mainly inspired from the engraved characters of a German Map depicting Germany's roads and parts of surrounding lands, edited in Berlin probably in the end of 1700's. The engraver was Carl Jaeck or Jaek (1763-1808). The Map was bought by the French napoleonic general Louis Pierre Delosme (1768-1828) probably during the Napolenic campaign against Germany, circa 1805 or at least 1806, his sole staying in Germany. The font (with two styles, Normal and Italic)is containing standard ligatures and a few alternative characters. It is a "small eye" or "Small x-eight" font, as the Maps' characters are most often very small (some Italic lower cases of the map are 1mm hight, upper cases 2mm) The standard English characters set is completed with accented or specific characters for Western (Including Celtic) and Central European, Baltic, Eastern Europe and Turkish languages.

Gryffensee is designed to be the Futura of blackletter, combining the time-honored gravity and relentlessness of the Gothic script with the clean, contemporary freshness of the geometric sans. Built from a tightly controlled inventory of lines, arcs, sharp cuts, and OpenType features, Gryffensee was born and raised in the digital age, yet retains the powerful charisma and human warmth of its mediaeval blackletter ancestors. As a result, it excels in a wide range of display settings, logotypes, and short text. Unlike most conventional blackletters, it even handles all-caps usage with grace, and includes an extensive Cyrillic character set (in the Pro version). Apart from a generous range of automatic ligatures and contextual alternates, Gryffensee offers stylistic alternates that allow users to customize its appearance to their tastes. The capital letters |AGHIKZ| come in alternate cuts that trade traditional shapes for increased legibility, while the letter |s| appears in three cuts, each with a unique, distinct flavor. My intention to devise a contemporary geometric blackletter was inspired by four hand-painted letters, |ABCD|, in Sasha Prood�s online portfolio. I later found out that he had, in turn, taken those letters from an existing font, Bastard, by Jonathan Barnbrook. Luckily, by that time my project had taken on a life of its own. Gryffensee is an original design that bears only the most superficial resemblance to Bastard. Gryffensee is a mediaeval spelling of the lake Greifensee near which I grew up. It is pronounced [?gri?f?n?se?], or "GRIEF-un-say" in English approximation. This font is dedicated to Simone.

The design process of this font was rudely interrupted on August 11th, 2015, when my first child, Hazel, was born. Thinking up names for fonts can be tricky, as can thinking up names for babies, so when the font was finally finished, it seemed like a good idea to kill two birds with one stone, and here it is: Hazel Script. Hazel Script is a finely crafted, elegant, connecting script. I wanted to make something unique, and to this end, the contrast in the face is not based on any ductal logic, or the writing of some imagined tool. The thick parts of glyphs are purely aesthetic devices, placed to give the otherwise monoline font an interesting rhythm. The over-sized upper case letters follow a mid-century lettering skeleton, and swash forms can be used judiciously to add spice to the text. Hazel Script works "out of the box" but to really get the best out of it, use OpenType-savvy programs to unlock a world of swashes, alternates, ligatures and the like. In detail, the features are as follows: Swash - alternate forms for many glyphs Stylistic Sets - 1: script r, 2: alternate s, 3: script z, 4 and 5: more swash options, 4,5,6 and 7: access to alternate ampersands (the font boasts six to choose from!), 8: connecting forms for K, L, R, X and Z. Localised forms - ij digraphs for Dutch, and a script lslash for Polish. Standard ligatures - a mixture of ligatures, including the 'percent off' (just type "% off") and a heart that connects to the ends of words (type "<3") Automatic fractions Ordinals - a and o for Spanish etc. but also s,t,r,d,h and n for English 1st 2nd and 3rd etc. Contextual alternates - automatically places special start and end glyphs where necessary. Hazel Script would look great in glossy magazines set large, or would make a slightly unorthodox choice for wedding stationery, birth announcements, letterheads...

Acarau is a 6 fonts display typeface with high reverse contrast—since from Roman capitals and calligraphy, usually Latin alphabet letters have thiner horizontal steams and thicker verticals, these features being optical or visual—quite adequate for logos, headlines and posters. Moreover, the style of the typeface is inspired by Italics form factor: lowercase letters having less strokes to make their shapes; A has one story; E has one stroke shape, such as K, G, Y and Z; F has a descent. To give it more calligraphic feeling, there is contrast for uppercases as well, this is very perceived by the diagonal letters like A, K, M, N, V, W, X, Y and Z. J also has a descent. Q and R have natural swashes, but they have alternates in case the costumer want to go for more usual forms—including accent marked letters. Acarau is a 12 months project, the contrast for uppercases were increasing as the process was made. In the middle it is found suitable blend the letter shapes with the history of Brazilian music from the 70’s and 80’s, since the font has a tropical, warm, spicy and nostalgic feeling. Songs from bands and singers that emerged on Rio de Janeiro like Paralamas do Sucesso, Cazuza, Lulu Santos and Kid Abelha bring the beach accent and rhythm that this font has. Anglecia Pro is an exquisite and versatile system of three transitional serif typefaces designed to work together in editorial design. Sharing the same skeleton, vertical axis, and trapezoidal uncurved serifs, each of these faces bears different key dimensions and different contrast typical for three different type epochs. Anglecia Pro Text is a typeface designed for general typesetting in average reading sizes. Although it features a vertical axis, its soft skeleton, relatively small x-height and prominent ascenders and descenders give the typesetting a traditional warm texture with a slight contemporary touch. Anglecia Pro Title incorporates proportions of familiar transitional serif typefaces but exposes higher-than-average vertical contrast which makes it useful for setting captions, pull quotes or general purpose text in sizes of 12 pt and above. Anglecia Pro Display, still having non-rectangular serifs and the same soft skeleton as the rest of Anglecia Pro system, features extreme contrast, much thinner serifs and exaggerated ball terminals typical for Didone modern serif families. Its large x-height and tighter letter spacing suggests larger text sizes e.g. in decorative headlines, extra large pull quotes or logos. Altogether these three typefaces form 36 styles – each supporting numerous Latin-based languages as well as major Cyrillic languages. In roman styles the Cyrillic script comes in two flavours accessible via OpenType alternates – to choose either more traditional and curvy (default) or more formal and rigid type texture. In italics this feature affects uppercase and small caps. Also, each style is packed with OpenType features: ligatures, small caps, six sets of digits, superiors and inferiors, fractions, ordinals, and respective punctuation varieties including all-cap punctuation. There are also language-specific alternates for Polish kreska, Romanian Ș/ș, Catalan punt volat, and correct small-cap versions for Turkish/Azerbaijani i/ı. Odile is a text typeface with bracketed head and bracket-free bottom lower case serifs, a quality that counters rigidness most traditional slab serif typefaces possess. This contemporary design draws inspiration from an experimental typeface named Charter originally designed by the American book and type designer William Addision Dwiggins. It consisted of an informal lowercase alphabet, a narrow seemingly non-inclined vertical letter with script attributes, featuring non-joining letterforms. Dwiggins’ contemplated Charter as the italic companion to Arcadia, Experimental No. 221. The Charter project progressed sporadic stalled during the Second World War and came to a halt in 1955. Charter remained incomplete and was never commercially released. Assessing Charter’s whimsical design, its fragments were rethought and developed into a comprehensive text family. Odile Upright Italic reveals recognizable similarities shared by Dwiggin’s Charter and defines the design approach for the family. The steep calligraphic outstroke and low junctions off the stem as in the upright italic “n” or “r”, for example, are gradually lessened in the italic and moved up for the roman weights. The six optically balanced weights range from the delicate Light to stark Black, accompanied by display variants with feminine flair and ardent Ornaments. Two sorts of Initials, one amplified with interweaving swashes, the other more restrained, both are clearly derived from the Upright Italic. This mid-contrast serif offers a wide range of tools for text and display typographies with a palette of strict to playful. This family shines in magazine, book and display use. Blackletter fonts are timelessly beautiful and still very popular. At some point, it seems that every type designer discovers the beauty of these forms and the great pleasure in creating blackletter characters. Like also Dutch designer Coen Hofmann who, after designing Caxtonian Gothic, has designed yet another Blackletter font: Holland Gothic. Holland Gothic reminds of the 18th century »Duytsch« typefaces of Joan Michael Fleischmann and Christoffel Van Dyck. But Hofmann was mainly inspired by the Dutch calligraphers from the 17th and 18th century. Holland Gothic develops its full charm and beauty at larger sizes because of the hairlines in the upper case characters. To enable users composing texts in the style of our ancestors, Coen Hofmann added a series of pre-composed ligatures, also in combination with the long s, plus an alternate form for the lower case r which was used in combination with letters b, d, g, o, p, v, and w.

Straight from the beauty product ads of the 1960's comes Montez Pro, full of sweeping strokes which lend to a feeling of joy and elegance throughout its letterforms. Drawn shortly before Jim Rimmer's passing in 2010, Loxley was designed to be used in a fine press edition of the folklore story of Robin Hood. It was named after the cited birthplace of the story's classic hero. Loxley's shapes were inspired the same early Roman faces (such as Subiaco from the late 1400s) that influenced Frederick Goudy's Aries, Franciscan and Goudry Thirty types. It exhibits the preculiarities of Jim's left-handed calligraphy, as well as his outside-the-box thinking with exit strokes and serif variations. Loxley was remastered for the latest technologies in 2013. Now it comes with a character set of over 450 glyphs, including plenty of stylistic alternates, a full compliment of f-ligatures, a Th-ligature, basic fractions, ordinals, a long s for historic setting, comprehensive class-based kerning, and extended Latin language support. 20% of this font's revenues will be donated to the Canada Type Scholarship Fund, supporting higher typography education in Canada.

FF Mutual is a friendly geometric sans serif full of subtle, unexpected details. Designer Luis Bandovas drew inspiration from an unlikely source—the credits from one of his favorite childhood shows, Space 1999—and turned that spark into a typeface that is warm and approachable, but contemporary. These two extra bold fonts are classic slab serif wood type styles with one detail of difference. Columbian is an extra bold Clarendon wood type that was manufactured by many of the wood type manufacturers in the late 19th century. "Clarendons" feature bracketed or rounded serif joins whereas "Antique" was a class of typefaces that features squared off slab serifs. Some type designs have only minor differences from others. The Columbian design is essentially identical to Wm. Page & Co.'s "Antique no. 4", with the difference being the bracketed serifs. In researching material for the digitization of Columbian, we started with a 15 line font identified as "Columbian" shown in the Angelica Press wood type portfolio (printed in 1976). This font is in fact "Page Antique no. 4". Comparing Antique #4 to Columbian specimens from Hamilton and other manufacturers confirms the only real difference is the serif treatments. Therefore, both fonts are presented as a pair. Each font features a full Western & Central European character set.

A two-layered display face from Our House Graphics with a plush, organic feel, Kush has 370 glyphs, over two dozen standard and discretionary ligatures, stylistic alternates and a few surprises. Kush Fat and Kush Shade work well independently but together they become a two colour, two layer font. Simply type some text in Kush Shade, copy it and paste it back on top of your original text. The 10th Regiment of Foot is a British military unit raised more than three centuries ago—and perhaps most famous in the U.S. for seeing action on American soil during the Revolutionary War in the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the Battle of Bunker Hill. Military Scribe is modeled after the compact, utilitarian script on the mid- to late-1770s muster rolls of the Tenth of Foot. I incorporated the work of at least three separate scribes, merging their neat old penmanship into a legible disconnected cursive. Perhaps the most versatile of all our vintage handwriting fonts, Military Scribe might faithfully reproduce antique letters, labels, lists, or just about any document of the period. OpenType features include multiple stylistic sets, scores of historical, contextual, and discretionary ligatures (including nine terminal “d”s) lining and old-style figures, ink blots, cross-outs, and full support for Central and Eastern European alphabets—more than 1,000 glyphs in all.

Spiraltwists is a family of 2 fonts giving assorted spiral shapes. In each font they're grouped in fours - the same basic spiral in 4 different orientations (N S E W almost), and Spiraltwists has solid lines making up the spirals, Spiraltwists Antique has dotted lines making up the spirals, giving them an antique or rustic appearance. Spiraltwists has heavier spirals on Upper Case, lighter spirals on lower case; plus a group of spirals with a straightened outer end and connecting lines so you get two spiral scrolls joined together by a long line at the top or bottom. Derived from a photograph Rian Hughes took in Hong Kong, the Roadkill family of typefaces is a literal interpretation of rough and worn road lettering. The original provided almost all of the key character shapes, with the others being designed to keep the unique hand painted feel intact. Most of the letters have alternate versions provided. This font works equally well at wider letterspacing settings. Roadkill Alternates provides curved versions of the 2 and the S, a G with higher crossbar, and less worn versions of several other characters. The heavy version packs even more gritty wallop in a non-condensed and blacker weight. Roadkill Heavy packs even more gritty wallop in a non-condensed and blacker weight. This family was created inspired from the Garamond patern set of fonts used by S. Millanges "imprimeur ordinaire du Roy", in Bordeaux, circa 1580-1590. Especially for reprint L'instruction des curés (Instructions to parish priests), from Jean Gerson. The set contains two styles, Normal and Italic, the second one with a lot of caps and ligatures variants. The initials, except a few decorated letters (six in total) where only large caps, covering no more than three lines. Added are a few fleurons. It can be used as variously as web-site titles, posters and flyers design, publishing texts looking like ancient ones, or greeting cards, all various sorts of presentations, as a very elegant and legible font... This font supports strong enlargements as easily as small size (legible from 6 points when printed) remaining very smart and fine. Its original cap height is about five millimeters. Decorated letters like 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian, can be used with this family without anachronism.

Originally released in 2008, Churchward Newstype is a workhorse text family, designed by the late Joseph Churchward back in the early 2000’s. If you’re familiar with Churchward’s typefaces, you might know that he always brought a little something quirky to his designs. Churchward Newstype doesn’t disappoint. The exaggerated concave serifs make a statement that is subtle, yet gives the typeface a unique flavor. The proportions and scale of the letters lend themselves to very good legibility in text applications, and the Bold weights are strong enough for headlines. Churchward Newstype is good for text copy, and headlines, and at giant point sizes, great for adding emphasis to posters! The Churchward Newstype family has four weights, Light to Bold, with 13 degree slanted italics. Each font has a second set of tabular figures. In this updated release, each weight now has an extended character set that supports most Western and Eastern European languages.

Dutch Mediaeval Book ST is a special version of the popular Dutch Mediaeval Book text fonts, engineered specifically for science writing. It is equipped with SciType, a combination of additional characters and OpenType programming included in the fonts to help in typesetting science text. For more information about SciType, please consult the SciType FAQ available in the Gallery section of this page. The Dutch Mediæval design is the historically renowned one made in 1912 by S. H. de Roos. It stands out as one of the most classic Dutch text faces. This Book version comes in two weights and an italic, optimized for body copy use between 8 and 12 pt. Aside from the SciType additions, all the fonts contain OpenType features for ligatures, ordinals, automatic fractions, eight kinds of figures, and a few ornaments. The Koelle Ornaments series is based on the etchings of Chris Koelle of Portland Studios. This is the second collaboration between insigne and Portland Studios; the first yielded the inky and active script Blue Goblet. Chris has a unique style where he "frames" his work with small icons related to the story or subject. These are now available as Koelle ornaments. Koelle Ornaments have a gritty, used appearance, and have a late 70's stylistic feel to them. There are 145 highly detailed illustrations in the entire pack, separated into four different fonts. These illustrations can be resized without any loss of quality, and can be easily converted to outlines and modified. Some of the ornaments have a Christian theme, while others are more generic. The 1765 Stamp Act ignited in American colonists a simmering distrust of the distant British Parliament, whose oppressive trade duties they deemed unfair assaults on their rights as English subjects. Before long, of course, this little dustup spawned The Boston Tea Party, the American Revolution, and the birth of the U. S. of A. But before the Battles of Lexington and Concord, a group of Philadelphia merchants made one last-ditch call for commercial cooperation across the Atlantic. This futile appeal survives to this day on a three-page broadside, finely engrossed by a penman of the period and passed down through the generations of a family named Remsen. Remsen Script is an interpretation of that penman’s neat, formal cursive—from its broad antique flourishes to its subtle unevenness and gently ragged strokes. Perfect for event announcements, fine product packaging, recreations of historical documents, or anywhere you wish to offer a whiff of a bygone era.

A Blocky Geometric Techical typestyle Modulate began as a digitization of a film typeface from LetterGraphics in the early 70's known as "Cadence". The original specimen included standard Capitals and Lowercase, Numerals and minimal Punctuation, a bare bones character set, previous only available on film and only in an upright stance. We've fleshed out the Modulate typeface to include a full standard character set, an extended international set, and a handful of alternate character styles.
