These are the letters I doodled in the margins of my high school notebooks. As it turns out, a man named Milt Glaser doodled them first. He doodled a lot of other amazing things too. Mr. Glaser called his blocky alphabet Baby Teeth. I think the type looks better when it says Surfside, so that's what I called my incarnation. This version has been digitized and expanded, and is available for Mac and PC. These letters remind me of the 80s and the 90s, of Gotcha shorts, Ocean Pacific shirts and fluorescent windbreakers. Due to some grease on a menu, I misread "Spicy Avocado" as "Spacy Avocado" which led me to the name of this font. Brecksville is a condensed grotesk typeface that takes inspiration from early German designs of the mid-19th century. It was designed as part of my current research into grotesk typefaces and different letterforms, as part of my dissertation research, “Perfected Letters: German Grotesk in the Nineteenth Century”, which focuses on the role of German design in typography. The Brecksville font family provides a wide range of weights, ranging from light to bold for both its rounded display style and more rugged sharp style. Both its styles feature the same horizontal proportions and metrics so they can freely be combined with no spacing issues. Brecksville's visually punchy condensed style and sharp edges, allows it to stand out on the screen – at almost any size. Its black composition also brings out the details needed in magazine and tabloid headlines, while maintaining readability throughout. The rounded display version is ideal for posters and other uses where you want something eye catching but not too hard on the eyes.

Humanist 521 is a Bitstream digitized version of Gill Sans typeface. The font was designed by Eric Gill and released by Monotype circa 1928-1930. Gill’s design is based on the typeface of Edward Johnston, the innovative British letterer and teacher, designed in 1916 for the signage of the London Underground. However, it has more classical proportions close to those of old style serifs, and thus is more suitable for text setting. With distinct roots in handwritten scripts, Gill’s typeface is classified as a humanist sans serif and is very legible and readable in text and display work. Having been released more than 80 years ago, it’s still very popular and in fact is an icon of British typographic style. The Cyrillic version of Ultra Bold weight was designed by Tagir Safaev in 1997. Six text styles and Extra Bold style in Cyrillic were designed later by Vladimir Yefimov and Isabella Chaeva. The Cyrillic version, in addition to the original Bitstream implementation of Humanist 521, has an alternative numeral 1 with the traditional shape and a set of old-style figures. Rereleased by ParaType in 2013.
