CrappyJoe got its name because I wrote all characters with a felt-pen with a broken tip. It's still very readable though.

Quendel has been expanded to become Quendel Happy Family. Apart from the new Bold weight for easy distinction and emphasis, there are now four other very exciting variants, rendering different writing tools and writing materials. The basic form of Quendel was written with a Japanese bamboo tip and therefore embodies a form letter of natural flow. The new versions show other features that provide the feel of written scripts. While the styles Wood and Crayon include some alternate characters, Q Marking Pen and Q Fingertip, due to their apparently more complex enacted forms, do not need additional alternates without looking stiff or boring. The wood relief of Quendel Wood was created by a freehand wood relief drawn with oiled chalk. Quendel Marking Pen seems to be written with a felt-tip pen soon depleted. At the same time it is also reminiscent of the blooming effect, which we know from photography. The name of Quendel Fingertip suggests what can be seen - someone seems to have written with the finger in a grainy material. One would like to try it himself. The effect of broken lines which can be gained by writing with chalk as reflected in Quendel Crayon. Almost like parched sandy soil, the writing material seems to crumble.

For many years I had repeatedly written names on certificates or designed texts for certificates of honor with a pen. I later digitized a font written with a broad pen from 1988 to make it easier to use. After the technical possibilities for this had developed, I made a PostScript font out of this document font. The "HGB-Unik" is a humanistic antiqua that arose from this written type. In 2009 Unik was chosen as the text font for a book. However, the book designers wanted to have an italic and a bold style as well. The cursive was developed from written texts that I also wrote for various occasions in the 1980s. The resulting font family was thoroughly revised several times until a usable text font with four weights was created. Although the Unik looks very idiosyncratic in display size, it shows a surprisingly balanced, pleasant typeface in read size.

Tertius, with its high ascenders and clubbed serifs, is a modern interpretation of the classic Carolingian style (7th - 9th centuries AD). There was no capital form in the Carolinian hand and Roman square capitals were originally used with it. The Carolingian hand began, after a while, to develop more cursive tendencies as people looked for a way to speed up the writing process. I have “capitalized” on this trend and have devised an appropriate and dramatic set of flowing capitals for this family. With its elegant swashes and bold letter shapes, Tertius embodies the romance of medieval life, of knights, castles, and chivalry. Tertius comes in four styles:- -- Regular: with elegant, smoothly penned characters; -- Crenellated: written with a scratchy pen over rough parchment -- many drops of ink and blotches have been left on the parchment (“Crenellated” means battlements -- the rough protrusions on the top of castle walls); and -- Romantic: the capitals have been loosely overwritten generating a contemporary version of illuminated capitals. -- Illuminated: richly decorated illuminated capitals for use with Tertius Regular (28 characters) All fonts have been carefully crafted, letterspaced and kerned and contain full character sets of 237 characters.

Finura was inspired by American lettering from the 60s, specially the Stunt Roman for ruling pen and compass presented in the Speedball Textbook for Pen & Brush Lettering by Ross F. George, but also by looking carefully to University Roman characteristics. Finura is an experience on very thin poster typefaces and the possibilities to design extreme delicate typefaces, with plenty details, that sheer simplicity and readability to the classic forms.

Immi 505 is another of Tim Donaldson�s prolific works. Inventive and fun-loving as always, Tim used a pen nib called a ?Brause 505? to create the letterforms for this design. The Brause 505 was an invention of Karlgeorg Hoefer. Hoefer created his typefaces Salto" and Saltino" with this nib. The other part of the name, Immi, is the nickname of Donaldson�s five-year-old daughter Imogen. The resulting unusual curves and open character of Immi 505 create a distinctive rhythm and color appropriate for short blocks of ad copy, titles, music CD covers, and Web page headlines where a bit of extra width is needed."

London is one of my favourite cities, so it was about time I named a font after it. Well, technically, I named a font after one of London’s districts. Southwark comes from the Anglo-Saxon word Suthriganaweorc, which means ‘Fort of the men of Surrey’. The font Southwork is a handmade Clarendon. I used a Japanese brush pen to create the outlines. I gave the glyphs texture by filling them in with a brush and Chinese ink. Southwark, therefore, has an uneven look and a brushy texture. It looks good on just about anything, but posters, greeting cards and product packaging come to mind.

Jackalope is a new original script font from LetterPerfect Fonts. The design is a hybrid of pressure-pen calligraphy infused with whimsy and curlicue terminals. Letterforms are free-spirited and edges are rough, simulating spontaneous writing on rough paper. In addition to the full ANSI western character set, Jackalope includes a full set of small capitals, both lining and old-style numbers, and swash lowercase alternate characters that can be used as terminal letters at the ends of words for additional flourish. The genesis and realization of Jackalope was also a hybrid process. In 1996, LetterPerfect commissioned type designer Kathy Schinhofen to provide pen-written source material based on her commercial handwriting style and specifically on a logo she had designed for its "Viva la Fonts" line of script fonts. This work was digitized by LetterPerfect’s Garrett Boge and later fonticized by former Hallmark Cards type maven Myron McVay who unified the design and contributed additional characters. The design sat unfinished for over 12 years until Garrett Boge revived the project in 2010 filling out the extended character set. DicSans is a square sans-serif typeface, inspired by Aldo Novarese’s Eurostile, it was meant as a sort of contemporary "open" Eurostile. It is a semi-custom font, designed and expanded according to costumers’ requests, since 2004 up to 2013. For this reason it has many glyph variants (up to three variants per lowercase glyphs and numbers, special smallcaps etc.) and wide language coverage.
