Inspired by Edward M. Catich’s seminal thesis on the origins of the Roman inscriptional style, such as that found on Trajan’s column, Richard Lipton’s Canto traces the path from an expressive, preparatory Brush (with Brush Open to preserve gestural details at smaller sizes), through informal Pen, to the formal Roman. Classical capitals are accompanied by Lipton’s own calligraphic lowercase, small caps, and swashes.

This is a display version of a stylized sans serif font family that is very high-waisted and sleek called Bergsland Fashion. This four-font set has a Regular and a Black plus the italics. The stroke is only slightly modulated. The letterforms are higher, with a more open aperture, and sprinkled with breaks to add light and sparkle. This an attempt at a readable sans serif for text. It has many OpenType features and 465 characters per font: Caps, lower case, small caps, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters and so on.

Fleurons are embellishments and this is my sixth and so far most beautiful round. I again found some nice old ones and made them completely new. These go well with many Copperplate scripts and especially with my scripts Nadine and Ellida. Your very elaborate, Gert Wiescher

The 1939 French publication “Modèles de lettres modernes par Georges Léculier” ( “Models of Modern Letters by Léculier”) presented some unique and stylized type designs with Art Deco influence. One such example is an abstract modular alphabet constructed of rectangles and circles. This is now available as Modular Deco JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

This square serif typeface is a real workhorse. It is a modern tool for text design: extremely legible and well shaped. Bandera Cyrillic has six weights with original italics. African fonts are characterised by design considerations that differ from those of Europe and the Americas. At one extreme we have a relaxed and casual approach to life that values the quality of each moment in life far more than people do in the west. In this approach each element of the font, while being part of a community, nevertheless stands on its own and has its own "character". An African font that characterises this approach is Ubuvila (the word means relaxedness or relaxation in Zulu). There is no strict adherence to a design format in Ubuvila nor are the characters constrained by resting on the same baseline. They wander up and down in the sentence and find a comfortable resting place.

Madelyn is a handwritten script font based on the expression of real handwriting. Amiable and organic, it is perfect if you want to convey individuality and style. There are a few professions in which being left-handed confers an advantage-think of the great southpaw pitchers in major league baseball, like Sandy Koufax. Now, think of all the great left-handed calligraphers. Not so easy, right? Here's a hint: Luis Siquot. Far from being an advantage, Siquot's lefty orientation proved a hurdle to overcome. When I was young, I had serious problems writing," he recalls. "If there was a lot of text, I almost always soiled the paper with wet ink as my hand followed the pen." Then, a friend told Siquot about a special store in London that catered to left-handed people. It was there that he found an Osmiroid pen specially designed for left-handed calligraphers. “The Auto Show” is the title of an early 1900s pieces of sheet music proving that America has had a fascination with cars since the earliest days of the automotive industry. The song sheet’s title was hand lettered in a casual Art Nouveau style which has been re-drawn digitally as Nouveau Auto JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions… and what’s better than a nouveau auto (a new car)?

Obsession has taken me completely in its spell. I could go on forever creating new forms for this script. But I have other fonts to do, so this is as far as my obsession goes for the moment. There are six different cuts and all letters can be mixed.

Inspired by a trip to Sequoia National Park, this bold, all cap font is reminiscent of the great west and wide open spaces. Upper case letters are solid while lower case letters feature shadow lines. Great for titles, branding and logo work.

Bayoneta is not your usual handcut alphabet, though it can seem so. It can also seem like carefully constructed lettering inspired by Polynesian cultures. By bridging that gap between knife-wielding kitsch and studied display lettering, Bayoneta offers quite a various range of theme possibilities. Its clear and attractive shapes can provide the eye-catching spontaneity on a book cover, the expressive shout on a skateboard or a muscle shirt, the mouth-watering brand on a protein bar package, or the main notice on a theme park ride sign.

Durazno de Chile are cursive fonts based on Chilean school script. It can be written in Aymara, Mapuche and Rapa Nui from Chile. It can also be written in Dutch, Maltese, and other languages. This font family is cute. The style is wide and rounded. It has wide and open loops. The strokes are drawn with a round cap tool, with no contrast. It is cursive and connected. The form is upright because upright is the Chilean script standard. It is easy to read in Chile. Parts A have capitals with high starts. Parts B have capitals with low starts. Parts F are Final forms.

Some scribbles on a bar napkin, a note from a cute girl passed in history class, what is there to say but why not a typeface? Actually it's that late night, �let's get this typeface done� madness that causes these flights of fancy. Anything to relieve the boredom of doing all those kerning pairs. Or maybe it's sunspots? Ms Kitty is all uppercase letterforms so there are two versions of each letter, one in the cap position, another in the lowercase position. Besides the regular weight and bold, there�s a bolder and much bolder in the works. And perhaps there will be a "too bold to be believed" version. Depends on the sunspots.

Syondola is Greater Albion's venture into the Wild-West. Need something to evoke saloon bars, or the OK Corral, or river Paddleboats? Syondola is it! Two styles are offered, Regular with clean and precise outlines, and Rustic, which has a deliberately slightly eroded look, for that old and timeworn feel.

Delfino Script is a cool, connecting script that can appear both retro and contemporary. Curved on the outsides of strokes, and jagged inside, the forms look like an abstraction of strips of tape, folding and flowing, or even marker pen style lettering. This script is not created by any pen though - its forms are constructed, not painted. Typographic features like ink traps add sparkle to the text. OpenType features include ligatures, contextual alternates (for more realistic connections) and stylistic sets. Stylistic Set 1 changes certain upper case letters into forms more suited for all caps setting, although they can also be used freely with the lower case. Set 2 changes the r into a less scripty form and set 3 adds a connecting tail to the q. Delfino Script would find itself at home in cookery books, fashion blogs, vintage car magazines and set large and proud on expanses of concrete, or, most likely, whatever you might have in mind for it! Delfina Script is practically identical to Delfino save for round tittles, periods and any other dot shaped glyph components. Strangely for such a little change, it does seem to give the face a different character.
