Adelphi is a geometric sans, redefined for the northern side of the English Channel. Typographic modernism was a late arrival in Britain — due partly to the Second World War and to the strong local type tradition. This delay provided for fruitful divergence, thus modernism was not adored in quite the same way as it had been in Germany and central Europe. It was instead rethought and repurposed against the backdrop of the bleak British weather and postwar social reform – a continental fashion statement reshaped into a more humanist variant. Likewise, when crafting Adelphi, Nick Job reimagined the constraints that defined the geometric sans as a genre. Whereas other typefaces seem overly bound by the rules, Adelphi feels relaxed and approachable. Elementary square and circular shapes are merely implied. A keen observer may notice that the uncomplicated letterforms occasionally reveal a subtle naïveté associated with early Grotesques. Brunel’s bridges and Harry Beck’s tube map spring to mind alongside the Bauhaus and Futura. But Adelphi is by no means nostalgic! It is a contemporary, comprehensive, and durable system with a pragmatic set of features. These include a wide array of weights, ‘uniwidth italics’, and variable extenders that go from tall and flat in Adelphi Text to short and sharp in Adelphi Display, with default Adelphi standing midway between these two extremes. The Yasmine type family follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style. It has one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Yasmine employs four fixed x-height values, two above and two below the x-axis. Values are high to give a slight vertical overall look. Its design uses full curves with equally distributed weight. Yasmine family includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions, and marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. It employs our “natural Arabic input” method where first glyph is displayed in its non-isolated form. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form. Keying it before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. Yasmine family includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals, all required diacritic marks, Allah ligature, in addition to all standard English keyboard punctuations and major currency symbols. Gaslon is a slight reinterpretation and major expansion of a 1973 film type called Corvina Black, originally designed for VGC by A. Bihari. While the original typeface was popular in its own right, there were some things in it that were too quirky to work in the display applications it was intended for. Some of the letter combinations just didn't work to their visual optimum. For example the a and o were too similar, ditto the C and G, the E, F and J were too overwhelming to be set properly within certain display uses. Gaslon eliminates these problems by the inclusion of plenty of alternates for the vast majority of the original letters. In fact, the original a is itself now an alternate to a gorgeous new one. The Gaslon Alt font includes tremendous possibilities for both unicase use, and proper use in conjunction with the main font. This is our true homage to a typeface that had great potential more than three decades ago, but was overlooked by digitizers because of a few quirks it had in film type contexts. Full of curves and invitation, Gaslon ranks very high among the friendliest poster faces ever made. It is ideal for friendly store signs, children book covers, and plenty of other applications. In fact, if you're planning on contributing to a few protests around your neighborhood or city, you would probably be better off using Gaslon to help your sign/placard carry words and slogans that are big but friendly. Nothing beats "DOWN WITH GAS PRICES" set in a nice imaginative mix of the many Gaslon letters. There's a cemetery in Castine, Maine, a lovely coastal town perhaps best known for Maine Maritime Academy and a surviving crop of stately old American elms, with headstones dating back into the 18th century -- the standard old headstone shape, often topped by winged skulls. Thanks to a local historical society volunteer, I got my hands on a couple rubbings; these show a particular style of stonecarving that proved captivating to the point of typeface design. Castine has a full character set in both roman and italic styles.

The origin of Ruskin was a commission for Michael Harvey to design a signage font for the Dean Gallery in Edinburgh. The style of the letterforms was to complement the period of the building which was originally an orphanage built in 1839. Only uppercase letters were created at first with the lowercase letters—and other characters necessary for a font—added later. With elegant and slightly extended letterforms, Ruskin fulfilled its rôle well as a signage font. It also functioned extremely well as a general display font. It is particularly suited to item descriptions and placards in galleries and museums which are frequently read from an angle, as well as head-on. The fonts have both proportionally and monospaced numerals.

Jasmin is a tribute to the ancient stories of The Thousand and One Nights, in which a main story serves as a connection for a series of other stories, just like all the other glyphs are derived from one of Jasmin's letters or from a sign. A graphic path in which we tried to combine the calligraphy designed with a quill with geometric research. Among the glyphs there is one referring to a letter from a famous font by Paul Renner, made by Fonderia Bauer in 1927.

The two great technical constraints a type designer can tackle are low resolution, which limits detail and dictates proportions between negative and positive shapes, and uniform width, which restricts each letter to a fixed horizontal space. Wrestle with both at once, and each letter becomes a black-and-white chessboard that challenges every design decision. Sometimes battling these constraints gets in the way of a good idea, but other times, tinkering with fewer options can make the job irresistibly easy and lead straight to a grid addiction. Gridlite, an experiment with a modular negative space, is the side effect of such an addiction.
