Torcao is one of the sporks of the font universe, a useful and functional outlier. Half square, half circle, this uncommon squircle of a family with its asymmetry of curved and angular shapes drives through headlines and body copy with forward velocity. Browsing online auctions is a wonderful way to pick up ideas for font designs. Take Condensed Stencil JNL for example. This font was modeled from a set of vintage brass interlocking stencils.

Droog is an unusual rounded font pierced with circular holes, some of which are used in lieu of counters. Used to best effect in shorter settings and at larger sizes. Suitable for science fiction posters, sweet wrappers, hipster bars, noodle joints, pet shops and native Nadsat speakers.

California Bound JNL is based on the hand lettering found on the side of the old California Zephyr passenger trains; the route now being a part of Amtrak. This somewhat unusual Art Deco design is more utilitarian than decorative, yet it still captures the "Streamline Era" perfectly.

The part of the large project on revival and further development (by drawing many additional glyphs, sometimes over 1000) of the 20th century’s typewriters’ fonts.

I suggest you to pay attention to the "Design" font. It's bold, with softened corners and some slope for dynamic effect. "Design" font has a unique charm and easy visual readability, so it's perfect for headlines, whether for sports events, automotive posters, logo or monograms designs.

ITC Slimbach font is the work of California calligrapher and type designer Robert Slimbach. Inspired in part by German fonts and the work of Hermann Zapf, Slimbach created a "contemporary text font with a progressive look", combining clean serif shapes with the warmth of calligraphic forms.

Alizarine is an elegant and luxurious serif font with flowing embellishments. This posh typeface features medium weight with a matching italic, and includes many capital ligature pairs. Sweet Titling No. 22 is part of the Sweet Collection of engraved lettering styles from the 20th Century, published by MVB Fonts. This obscure, art deco design would have been used for engraved letterhead, business cards, etc., and likely first appeared in the 1920s or ’30s.

We present to you STIFF - a simple, characteristic typeface in a nice, retro style which is angular, geometric and extra narrow. Stiff makes the text look distinctive and unique so it's perfect for titles, subtitles, logotypes or short parts of text which need to be exposed.

Bold and simple, but shaky, Count Floyd was named for the horror host spoof from SCTV. It has the look of a spooky grunge font, but is far easier to read, even at relatively small sizes. Please note that this font has a limited character set.

Know anybody named Walt? Ever seen his handwriting? Well, here it is (at least a similar style). You will enjoy using it for your theme park titles, invitations etc. (And it’s much cleaner and nicer-looking than any other version out there.) Font inspired from Walt Disney.

Pigalle Swing is a very elegant script from the 1950s which I found some time ago in a similar but not so elegant version on Place Pigalle in Paris. I designed lots of alternate capitals and lowercase letters to make the font more usable and interesting. Enjoy!

Office Staff JNL is a version [with serifs added] of Popularity JNL – a condensed Art Deco design based (for the most part) on a popular typeface known in some foundry books as ‘Radiant’ with some reinterpreted characters… and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Albo is part of a new set of typefaces inspired in ancient documents from Portuguese 15th and 16th century books. Based on a document from Afonso d'Alboquerque (Goa, July, 1514), Albo was designed to be an inspiring typeface, a blackletter with ornamental elements and many design possibilities.

shibby adj (etc.). Used to indicate that something is “cool.” Apparently Shibby was first used in the 1999 movie Dude, Where’s My Car? I don’t think Shibby is THE cool word of the moment, but I think it is cool enough for this rather shibby font!

The capsule shape has long been a favorite of mine. So, why not use it as the basis for a font design. And if you hit the cap bar key, you'll find a hidden capzule. Take two and catch some Zs before you resume surfing for fonts.

Raw was designed in 2006 for Shelter, the UK homeless charity. It was originally called “Cathy”, after the film “Cathy Come Home”, which was instrumental in inspiring the founding of the charity. Now reworked with more “inkiness”, it is released as part of the Device range.

The German designer Karin Huschka created the fonts Linotype Authentic™ (1999), Chineze Dragon™ (2002) and Picture Yourself™ (2003, with Peter Huschka). The text font Linotype Authentic is part of the TakeType Library, chosen from the entries of the 1999 International Digital Type Design Contest.
