Mellow Serif is a soft and friendly typeface. It looks compelling in large point sizes due to the rounded terminals and calligraphic details. Mellow Serif also works well in body text with a small leading size as it has even proportions and a large x-height. Mellow Serif includes ten styles—five upright and five italic, ranging from Light to Extra Bold. The typeface supports extended Latin, extended Cyrillic, and Greek. The character set also includes old style figures, small caps in the Light, Regular, and Medium upright styles as well as stylistic alternate sets that slightly change the way Mellow Serif looks in large point sizes. The Regular style also has alternative letterforms with swashes. Mellow Serif is great for book printing (from fiction and children’s books to science literature), headings, and large texts on the web as well as for toys and confectionary packaging. Ice Creamery is a new variation of our Saloon Girl font family complete with italics and fill fonts which may be used to layer different colors into the open parts of each glyph. We don’t recommend using the fill fonts for Ice Creamery as stand alone solid fonts, Ice Creamery Chocolate was designed as a the stand alone solid font for this font family. Fill fonts go back to the 1850's where they would design matched sets of printing blocks and the layering of colors took place on the printing press, they would print a page in black then on a second printing they would print a solid letter in red or blue over the letters with open spaces to fill them in. Most of the time the second printing didn't line up exactly to the open faced font and it created a misprinted look. With the fill fonts in Ice Creamery and other FontMesa fonts you have the option to perfectly align the fill fonts with the open faced fonts or shift it a little to create a misprinted look which looks pretty cool in some projects such as t-shirt designs. I have some ice cream making history in my family, my Grandfather Fred Hagemann was the manager of the ice cream plant for thirty years at Cock Robin Ice Cream and Burgers in Naperville IL. In the images above I've included an old 1960's photo of the Cock Robin Naperville location, the ice cream plant was behind the restaurant as seen by the chimney stack which was part of the plant. If you were to travel 2000 feet directly behind the Cock Robin sign in the photo, that's where I started the FontMesa type foundry at my home in Naperville. My favorite ice cream flavor was their green pistachio ice cream with black cherries, they called it Spumoni even though it wasn't a true Spumoni recipe. Their butter pecan ice cream was also incredibly good, the pecans were super fresh, their Tin Roof Sundae ice cream was chocolate fudge, caramel and peanuts swirled into vanilla ice cream. One unique thing about Cock Robin and Prince Castle was they used a square ice cream scoop for their sundaes.

While in the same vein and spirit as Burgues and Compendium, Bellissima began from an entirely different thread from those fonts. It started with Alex Trochut generously showing me a gorgeous lettering book from his grandfather’s library: Bellezas de la Caligrafía, by Ramón Stirling, 1844. Stirling was one of the Latin calligraphy pioneers who introduced a refined version of English calligraphy in Spain and made it popular in the nineteenth century. Some scans from that book served as initial basis for the caps in my Poem Script. But it was always in the back of my mind that I should do a copperplate, and the Stirling model was the perfect source. My intention was to veer away from Stirling’s exuberant ornamentation, and work within simplified forms of his ideas. As it usually is with most of my projects, Bellissima became its own bird and shaped its own flying patterns. Suddenly there were many ligatures, multiple endings and swashed connections, hundreds of alternates for both uppercase and lowercase. Bellissima has an effusive energy that appeals much beyond its sourcing. It’s intended for these modern times of appreciation for old crafty things like stationery and letterpress, where its origins help it shine brightly. Bellissima Script Pro is a complete font with almost 2000 characters full of alternates, swashes, ligatures & ornaments covering a wide palette of latin languages and Bellissima Script Redux is a random sample of glyphs totally usable with a reduced price.

The TYMA Garamont Roman was inspired by the Berner-Egenolff type sample from the 1560s. The Italic was inspired by a sample from Robert Granjon, also from the 1560s. The name TYMA is short for AB Typmatriser, a Swedish company founded 1948, because the Second World War stopped all import of matrices for Linotype and Intertype typesetting machines. It took until 1951-52 before the import was up to speed again. Until then, Sweden had to fend for itself. TYMA produced all technical equipment needed for type production, including the pantograph to cut the matrices, a complete set for each size and version. The templates for Garamont Roman were initiated by Henry Alm 1948. Bo Berndal was hired the following year, and continued the work by drawing and cutting templates for the rest of Garamont Roman, as well as for the remaining Garamont family. Bo Berndal stayed at TYMA until it went bankrupt in 1952. At that time Bo Berndal had already kick-started his career as type designer by drawing the typeface Reporter for one of the big daily newspapers, Aftonbladet, a version of Cheltenham for another daily, Dagens Nyheter, and copied several old typefaces for other customers. Librarian Sten G. Lindberg at The Royal Library of Stockholm, Kungliga Biblioteket, procured copies of original type samples. Henry Alm started the work in 1948, and Bo Berndal completed it - finally in this OpenType version.

Another offbeat typeface inspired by the lettering on a design by Patrick Owsley for the Chicago Bears. There's nothing more lively than animated text, and Bear Club has that flavor in two ways. With counter inspirations drawn from fonts like Ad Lib and Nightclub, an automatic alternating caps and alternate caps feature, as well as a contextual alternates set that creates a true animated bounce, just like Hip Hopper. Alegria is a font family for joyful communication. The family consists of Alegria Roman (with upper/lowercase and oldstyle figures), Alegria Caps (with uppercase, small caps and lining figures), Alegria Bright (a small caps version with a three-dimensional feel) and Alegria Fill (that can be used as a second layer with Bright or Caps faces to create multiple colors on the text). Slik is a type family developed with packaging in mind. It started as one word in the boldest weight while working on an update of the Swedish liquorice brand »Läkerol« , a rejected proposal with the logotype in all upper case letters. It has very characteristic elements and is still simple and consistent in a way that is suitable in packaging design. The family consists of seven weights from Ultralight to Extrabold. It contains some alternative characters more suitable for text & numbers for pricing.

The character of Sopran is expressed by long serifs that replace traditional drops. Contrast is distributed from monolinear in hairline and all the way to the extreme in the black style. Symbols and punctuation are drawn with monolinear strokes to give the typeface more playful typesetting. The long serifs allow for some interesting discretionary ligatures, like “fa” or “Ta”. The main difference between Accord Alt and Accord is in the way curved strokes join with vertical stems in letters such as “bpn”. The Italics are designed at an italic angle of 10 degrees. All the letter forms have been kept similar while designing italic instead changing the form e.g. 'a' remains same double story in italic also instead changing it to single story.
