Modesto Initials had existed as a single font for several years. I recently added a fill font to put color in the Inlines. The Inline font still works by itself. The Fill font works alone too, as an ultra Modesto on steroids. They work best together. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. Pounder Fonts were designed by Tom Nikosey / CozyFonts Foundry. This font, as all my fonts started with pencil sketches based on the letter O. Once I arrived at the comfortable shape I worked out the C, G, & Q. The H, M, T matched the visual weight and so I moved on to E & S. As the E & S are 2 of the most repeated characters in fonts' I wanted a little bit extra here. The font is obviously heavy weighted yet very legible and almost architectural in presence. There are flashes of Art Deco yet futuristic style. After sketching the feel of this font I was excited by the possibility of the numerals styling. I can see these used for many applications. Why the title Pounder? Why not it seems to fit.

Pumpkin Soup is delicious! And so is the font. 'Nuf said!

Buffet Script is based on fantastic calligraphy by Alf Becker, arguably the greatest American sign lettering artist of all time. The Alf Becker series of nameless alphabets published by Sign of the Times magazine in 1941 has attracted letter digitizers for a few years now, so it’s really a wonder that a few of those alphabets are still in the non-digital realm. It is understandable, though, that the basis for Buffet Script was not digitally attempted until now. The page presenting this alphabet shows a jungle of letters running into each others and swashes intertwining. The massive amount of work involved in digitizing such lettering, where scanning is nowhere near being an option, is quite obvious at a mere glance. If anyone was going to commit this particular alphabet to a digital form, it would have to be redrawn stroke by stroke and curve by curve on the computer. And don't we love a challenge! But seriously, the challenge was not the main attraction. In a way, the Becker approach to lettering is so far from digital that the imagination is almost forced to work out possibilities and letter combinations to solve problems presented by the scant showings in that magazine. After a few imaginative visualizations, the digital potential becomes clear in the mind, and the eye and hand follow. The result with Whomp (another Alf Becker-inspired work) was an enormous font with a lot of alternates and ligatures. With Buffet Script the imaginative process was no different, but the result particularly shines here, because this is some of the most fascinating flowing calligraphy ever seen. Calligraphy is where the accountability of all the little extra touches, such as alternates and swashes and ligatures, is raised to a higher level than in most other type categories. Buffet Script’s OpenType programming contains discretionary ligatures, stylistic and contextual alternates, interacting with each other to allow the composition of just the right word or sentence. This font is best used where lush elegance is one of the design’s requirements.

Freeland is a casual brush typeface, with a rich, inky texture, and just a bit of a masculine, edgy vibe. It’s modern, bold, and lively, but not too whimsical. Features plenty of ligatures and stylistic alternates for a realistic, hand-lettered look. Uppercase letters can be used alone, as a cohesive group, or they can be paired with their lowercase cousins, for lettering that dances effortlessly across your design.

Suchow was developed from a hand lettered storybook title by Willy Pogany. It's designed to give the feel of the Far East, with character shapes reminiscent of oriental brush lettering. The look of the characters is typical of lettering often used around the turn of the century for oriental-themed advertising and decoration, but not seen very often in contemporary use. The full version includes an expanded character set.

Designed at ParaType (ParaGraph) in 1997 by Tagir Safayev. Based on a condensed style of DIN type family (Linotype Staff designers). That is a group of sans serif faces made to conform to the German Industrial Standard. Based on geometric style, they vary in width but not in weight. Light style was added in 2014 by Manvel Schmavonyan. Demi Bold style was added in 2020 by Isabella Chaeva.

Sagebrush John, your bank robbin' days are over. I'm throwin' you in the hoosegow! Hoosegow JNL isn't a small town jailhouse, but it is Jeff Levine's take on a classic wood type that brings out the Old West in any design layout. The beauty of many of these vintage wood type alphabets is their "imperfect" letter forms - giving your work a touch of the old days of letterpress printing.

Fitzronald is a body text typeface with a strong personality combined with a good legibility in small sizes. It is an excellent book typeface, but it can be used in e.g. advertising and packaging as well. Due to its good legibility at low resolution, it is a superb website and e-book typeface. Fitzronald is based on Ronaldson, an American typeface originally cut by MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan in 1884.

I am not a very romantic type (pun intended…), but a slightly slanted connected script always looks as if it was made for romance! Summer Romance is a beautiful connected script, made entirely by hand using a Japanse calligraphy brush-pen. It looks good on just anything: romantic book covers, beauty products, travel websites advertising romantic get-aways… Comes with double letter ligatures and a whole bunch of diacritics.

It's cool to be square. Among the many strange attempts to conceal writing, these two systems allegedly used by the Masons have a wonderful simplicity and relative ease of use. Both systems, the Rosicrucian and Free Mason, (also called the Pigpen cypher) as simple replacement ciphers never offered very great cryptographic security, but certainly would ensure that the casual observer would not be able to read documents written in such scripts.

Stateside is a bold condensed serif with a vintage feel. It has an urban and, I like to think, urbane character which puts me in mind of classic Thirties architecture like the Rockefeller Centre or the Empire State Building. I did consider calling it Rockefeller, but the family might think it a bit of a liberty, and I can’t afford to get into a copyright battle with them!

Friendly and generous, this is an organically grown display typeface. Its original handcrafted shapes have been significantly polished, but without losing its old-fashioned charm. The versatile regular cut comes equipped with a wealth of decorative OpenType features such as swashes, majuscule discretionary ligatures and stylistic alternates.
