I really can’t tell you why I called this font Funky Flamingo. Normally I name fonts after something I see or do, but I don’t have a special thing for flamingoes, nor do I keep them in my backyard. The Valhalica typeface grew out of a project to design a modern mobile app for the ancient strategy board game Hnefatafl, also known as 'Viking Chess'. The typeface draws its inspiration from the ancient runic alphabets used by the Norse people, known as 'futharks'. Modeling its letterforms on the aesthetics of these futhark alphabets, alongside an appreciation of clean, contemporary typography, Valhalica is a highly legible display font that lends itself to big, bold headlines and logos with a Nordic tone.

This font gets its inspiration from the typography of the Manuale ad Usum (1721), printed by Jesuit missionaries who worked at the beginning of the XVIII century with communities of "Guarani" native indians from the Northeast region of Argentina. It is a manual of sacraments published by Paulo Restivo and some collaborators among the native population. This manual features the peculiarity of being the first printed piece where there is a record of the place where it was printed: at the Loreto mission.

McKnight Kauffer is a casual sans derived from poster and book cover lettering by the American designer, Edward McKnight Kauffer, who mainly worked in England through the 1920s and 1930s. The style owes much to Louis Oppenheim's Fanfare of 1927, but without the Germanic blackletter inflection.
